Also distinguish a crash before the title screen from a failure during an intro or loading screen, a crash at one chapter, and ongoing low frame rate or stutter. The same Steam page says that the Steam Client supports Windows 10 and later starting January 1, 2024. That is a client operating-system policy, separate from the older game requirements above; do not treat the game listing as a current Windows compatibility guarantee. Try low-risk fixes in order
PLAION’s general crash and freeze guide recommends checking requirements, updating relevant drivers and the game, checking cooling, closing background applications, and lowering graphics settings. It also recommends verifying game files on Steam. - Update the game and relevant drivers. Install available game updates and check for current graphics, audio, and other relevant device drivers through the appropriate official channel for your hardware.
- Check cooling and close background applications. Make sure the PC is adequately cooled, then close nonessential programs that may be competing for system resources.
- Lower graphics settings. If the game launches but stutters or performs poorly, reduce its graphics settings and see whether the symptom changes.
- Verify the installation if you use Steam. In the Steam Library, open the game’s Properties and look in Installed Files for the integrity verification action. Labels can change. Let the check finish, then launch the game again.
- Reinstall only after the reversible checks. If the problem persists after verification and the other steps, PLAION’s general guidance suggests reinstalling and then contacting support if needed.
If a crash happens at one chapter or with a connected device
A Steam Community post about Last Light Redux lists restarting the chapter, trying administrator compatibility settings, adjusting NVIDIA Control Panel options, checking background downloads, verifying files, and testing connected devices. Those are one user’s suggestions, not publisher-approved universal fixes. If you try one, change only that one thing, prefer reversible changes, and restore the original setting if it does not help. A connected headset, monitor, controller, or other device can be tested by disconnecting it temporarily; a launch problem is not evidence that you need to buy a replacement. If the crash or freeze remains after the relevant checks, open a support request with the publisher or your storefront. Include the game title, launcher, Windows and driver versions, CPU, GPU, RAM, where the failure occurs, what you already tried, and the exact error text if there is one.
