Start with the symptom: check the console’s model-specific setup and cables if it is new or has no picture; check network settings and PlayStation Network status for connection trouble; retry a failed update before turning to USB; and use Safe Mode only when normal startup or updates fail. The least disruptive steps come first. Some Safe Mode options erase console data, so check their effects and back up what you can before choosing them.
First-time setup: check the model, cables, and on-screen steps
Before troubleshooting software, connect the console correctly. Sony’s physical guide covers HDMI and power connections and says to attach the base or feet specified for your model before use. Follow Sony’s PS5 getting-started instructions; initial setup includes pairing the controller, choosing a language, connecting to the internet, setting display preferences, choosing Rest Mode options, and accepting the user agreement.
- No picture: Check that the HDMI cable is connected securely to the console and display, and that the display is on the correct input. Use Sony’s display troubleshooting linked from its getting-started page rather than assuming the console has failed.
- Console will not power on: Check the power connection and follow Sony’s model-specific setup guidance before moving to recovery steps.
- Setup reaches the network screen: Follow the Wi-Fi or wired instructions below. You can return to network settings later if setup cannot connect.
PS5 will not connect to Wi-Fi or the internet
Start with the network name, password, and router before changing advanced settings. On the PS5, open Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection. Select the saved or new Wi-Fi network and choose Connect; enter its password if required. For Ethernet, choose Set Up Wired LAN > Connect. Sony’s internet connection guide explains both setup methods.
- Confirm that the selected SSID is the intended network and that its password is correct. Check that the router’s security method is compatible with the network setup.
- Check PlayStation Network service status before changing router settings; an outage may be outside your home network.
- If Wi-Fi is weak or intermittent, move the console or router to improve the signal, or test a wired LAN connection if available.
- Restart the console and, if the problem continues, restart the modem and router. Check whether the router has a firmware update.
PS5 supports IPv6 but does not support IPv6-only network connections; the router must also support IPv4. If you are unfamiliar with settings such as DNS, MTU, proxy, or IP configuration, ask your internet provider or network administrator before changing them. For PS5 Pro model group CFI-7000, the advanced network options include Multi Linking Operation; testing it on and off may help if both the console and router support it.

PSN connection error NW-102650-4
For this specific error, Sony recommends checking PlayStation service status, restarting the console, trying a wired connection where possible, checking wireless placement, restarting the modem or router, and updating router firmware. Follow the steps on Sony’s NW-102650-4 support page.
Sony also lists port and static-IP suggestions for this error. These are not necessary first steps for every connection problem. If you do not know how to configure them, consult your internet provider or network administrator; Sony advises contacting the ISP for router or port assistance.

PS5 update is stuck or will not download
If the console reaches the home screen
Retry the update before using a USB drive. Open Downloads/Uploads, highlight the update, select View Error Info, then choose Try Again. Sony’s PS5 system software instructions provide the current update steps.
Update manually with a USB drive
If repeated downloads fail, Sony supports downloading the official update file on a PC or Mac and installing it from Safe Mode. The USB drive must be formatted as FAT32 or exFAT. Sony’s procedure estimates about 1.1 GB of free space for the update file.
