For Monster Hunter Wilds on Windows PC, start by checking the current game update, then test drivers, GPU selection, background apps, game files, graphics settings, and heat—in that order. Steam’s published PC targets are reference points, not guarantees, and the right fix depends on whether the problem is consistently low FPS, brief stutter, input delay, or instability.
Check the game version and identify the symptom
Before changing settings, note the installed game version and where the problem happens: Base Camp, the Grand Hub, or during a hunt. Also distinguish a persistently low frame rate from brief stutters, crashes, visual glitches, or input delay; they may call for different troubleshooting.

Check Capcom’s current update notes before trying an old workaround. The January 28, 2026 notes for Ver. 1.040.03.01 documented Steam-specific CPU/GPU processing changes and a fix for elevated CPU load near the Support Desk in Base Camp and the Grand Hub. Capcom said a claimed-content status check could lower FPS there, with the effect varying by unclaimed content and CPU performance. It also clarified that the number of DLCs owned did not cause the problem. That fix is a dated checkpoint, not evidence that no later update has changed performance.
Compare your PC with the published requirements
Steam’s Monster Hunter Wilds requirements apply to the Windows PC version. They give baseline hardware examples and expected settings targets, not a promise that every matching system will hold a particular frame rate in every scene.

These are Steam’s published expectations, not independent benchmark results or guaranteed outcomes. Being below an example does not by itself prove the game cannot launch, and being above it does not guarantee stable performance in every location or scene.
For a useful diagnosis, write down your exact CPU and GPU, graphics memory (VRAM), system RAM, graphics-driver version, Windows version, and display resolution and model. Those details help separate a likely hardware limit from a software or configuration problem.
Try software and configuration fixes first
Update the graphics driver and restart
Install an appropriate current driver from your GPU manufacturer, then restart Windows. Capcom’s January 2026 update page included driver-version advice for that update and warned it could change; those historical versions should not be treated as current recommendations. Check current Capcom support notes and your GPU maker for up-to-date guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsMake sure the game uses the intended GPU
On a laptop with integrated and discrete graphics, Windows may let you choose the high-performance GPU for the game. The route in Capcom’s troubleshooting guidance is Settings > System > Display > Graphics; select the game and choose High performance if that option is available. Labels and menus can vary by Windows build and PC manufacturer.
For a laptop, connect the charger and check the manufacturer’s power settings. Running on battery or a restrictive power mode may affect performance.

Close background applications as a controlled test
Recording tools, overlays, and other resource-heavy applications can compete with the game. Close them temporarily, then replay the same area under similar conditions. Change one category at a time so you can tell whether a particular app affects performance rather than attributing a difference to several simultaneous changes.
Verify the Steam game files
Use Steam’s file-verification option to check for missing or damaged game files. In the Steam Library, open Monster Hunter Wilds’s properties and use the installed-files verification control. Steam checks the installation and may replace files it finds damaged or missing; it does not guarantee a frame-rate improvement.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallUse shader-cache deletion only for relevant issues
Capcom’s troubleshooting thread suggests deleting the game-generated shader.cache and shader.cache2 files for certain graphical issues. Treat this as a targeted troubleshooting option, not a universal stutter fix or guaranteed FPS boost. The game may rebuild shader data afterward, so allow that process to complete before judging the result.
Adjust graphics settings for the problem you have
For unstable or low frame rates
Open the game’s Graphics settings and try a lower preset, such as Low or Medium, then compare performance in the same area. Make reversible changes and assess them one at a time where practical. Capcom’s guidance does not promise a particular FPS gain for any setting or PC.
If Frame Generation is unavailable
Capcom advises enabling Windows GPU scheduling and updating the graphics driver if needed. Availability depends on supported hardware and system configuration, so this is not a universal setting or fix for ordinary low FPS.

If Frame Generation causes input delay or performance degradation
Capcom’s troubleshooting announcement recommends trying to disable V-Sync in the game’s Display options when those symptoms occur while using Frame Generation. Compare the result in the same conditions; the advice addresses those specific symptoms, not every performance problem.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Check for heat-related instability
Capcom warns that excessive heat can make game operation unstable. Place the PC in a well-ventilated area; lowering graphics settings and limiting the frame rate may also reduce heat. If you suspect thermal problems, check temperatures with monitoring tools provided by your hardware manufacturer. The available guidance does not establish a universal temperature threshold or show that every affected PC needs new cooling hardware.
When to contact Capcom support
If the problem remains after these checks, send support enough information to reproduce and investigate it. Include:
- CPU model and PC or laptop model
- GPU model and VRAM
- Graphics-driver version and system memory
- Windows version and security software
- Monitor model or models
- Game version, the location where the issue occurs, and whether it is low FPS, stutter, a crash, a visual issue, or input delay
Capcom lists computer and display details in its troubleshooting and issue-reporting thread. A specific report is more useful than simply saying the game runs poorly.
Use a benchmark as a check, not a promise
Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark announcement describes a benchmark tool intended to help assess PC performance. A benchmark can provide another data point, but it cannot guarantee the frame rate you will see in every live-game location or establish which component is responsible for a particular problem.
