Start in Settings > Battery and check which apps or system activity are using power. Battery drain and warmth can be temporary while an iPhone finishes work after an update; Apple recommends waiting a few days and checking again. For a temperature warning, cool the phone safely. If you decide to leave the beta, know that restoring public iOS erases the device and a beta-era backup may not work on an earlier version.
First, identify the beta and when the symptoms began
Note your iPhone model, the installed iOS beta version, when installation finished, and whether the drain, warmth, or app problems started immediately or later. That timeline helps distinguish ongoing post-update activity from a persistent problem. Do not assume a beta caused a symptom or that a later beta will fix it without evidence for your exact build. Why is my iPhone battery draining after the beta update?
Check Battery settings before changing anything
- Open Settings > Battery.
- Review any suggestions or insights, daily usage, and the apps or system activities listed as using battery. The exact charts and controls can vary by iOS version and iPhone model.
- Look for activity that may explain the drain, such as background activity, weak mobile coverage, or frequent notifications.
- If you just installed the update, give background tasks a few days to finish, then check battery life again.

If Battery Health shows Service, Apple recommends considering battery replacement to restore full performance and capacity. That status is a service indicator, not evidence that the beta caused battery wear. Use Apple’s battery guidance to review the available information for your device.

Why is my iPhone hot after updating iOS?
Some warmth can be normal during an iOS update, setup, a backup restore, wireless charging, or intensive app use. Apple says the iPhone should cool after the demanding activity ends. Its stated ambient operating range is 0–35°C (32–95°F); avoid leaving the phone in a hot car, in prolonged direct sun, or under sustained heavy workload in high temperatures.
If you see a temperature warning
- Turn off the iPhone.
- Move it to a cooler place, away from direct sunlight.
- Let it cool before using it again.
Do not put the phone in a refrigerator or try rapid-cooling methods. Apple describes protective responses to high temperature that can include a dimmed or disabled display, slower or paused charging, reduced mobile signal, temporarily unavailable camera functions, or lower performance. How do I stop apps crashing after an iOS beta?
- If an app is not responding, close that app and reopen it.
- Check whether your network connection is working as expected.
- Check available device storage.
A crash does not by itself establish that the beta is responsible, and Apple’s general app troubleshooting does not offer a universal beta-specific fix. The right choice depends on how severe and persistent the symptoms are, what Battery settings show, whether a temperature warning appears, and whether you have a suitable backup. If the iPhone is usable and the main issue is recent post-update drain, waiting a few days and rechecking is less disruptive than erasing the device. If you want public-release stability instead of continuing to test beta software, understand the data consequences before restoring.
