How to fix House Flipper 2 crashes, freezes, and loading problems on Nintendo Switch 2

If House Flipper 2 crashes, freezes on a loading screen, or closes when a job starts on Nintendo Switch 2, follow Nintendo’s recovery order: restart the console, install the latest system and game updates, check the game for corrupt data, then redownload it. If the game is installed on a microSD Express card, remove the card and test a system-memory installation. Persistent “The software was closed because an error occurred” messages can require Nintendo’s factory reset that preserves save data before another redownload.

House Flipper 2 launched as a Nintendo Switch 2 digital title on 15 October 2026. Nintendo lists an estimated 13.1 GB download and online play for 1–4 players. No authoritative bulletin currently confirms a House Flipper 2-specific Switch 2 defect or identifies a particular job, downloadable-content item, or save as the cause, so treat the steps below as platform troubleshooting and record what happens at each stage.

What to check before changing anything

Write down the symptom and when it occurs. “The game never reaches the title screen,” an infinite loading animation after selecting a job, a freeze during play, and an error-driven close can have different storage or software triggers. Also note whether you own the digital edition, whether the game is on system memory or a microSD Express card, and the Switch 2 system version shown under System Settings > System > System Update.

Make sure the console has enough free space for a fresh installation. Nintendo’s listing estimates House Flipper 2 at 13.1 GB; the exact space used can change with updates, so leave additional room rather than planning around the estimate alone. Do not format or replace a card until you have considered how your save data is backed up or otherwise protected. Storage operations are aimed at the software location, while save-data handling is a separate decision.

Samsung microSD Express Card – 256GB for Nintendo Switch™ 2
  • Nintendo Switch 2 uses a new standard of expandable memory card called microSD Express (sold separately). This kind of memory card is needed for faster access speeds and to ensure games will run smoothly.
  • Please note: Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards. If the microSD cards you have used for Nintendo Switch do not support microSD Express standards, you cannot use them with Nintendo Switch 2.

The least-destructive-to-most-destructive fix sequence

Perform one step, then launch House Flipper 2 and reproduce the original action. If the problem disappears, stop; moving farther down the list makes progressively larger changes.

  1. Restart the Switch 2 normally. Hold the POWER button for three seconds, select Power Options, and choose Restart. If the console does not respond, hold POWER for 12 seconds to force it off, wait briefly, and power it on again. A forced shutdown is for an unresponsive system, not the normal way to exit the game.
  2. Update the console. Open System Settings > System > System Update and install the offered update. Nintendo’s current update information lists version 23.0.1, released 30 September 2026; that release addressed software that could occasionally take a long time to start, pause, or close. Restart after the update if the console requests it.
  3. Update House Flipper 2. On HOME, highlight the game without starting it. Press + or −, choose Software Update, then Via the Internet. Let the download and installation finish before testing the job or save that previously failed.
  4. Check for corrupt data. Go to System Settings > Data Management > Manage Software > House Flipper 2 > Check for Corrupt Data. Allow the check to complete. If the console reports a problem, follow its repair or redownload prompt, then test again.
  5. Redownload the game. Delete the affected software through the software-management controls and download it again. For this test, prefer system memory. If a microSD Express card is installed, power the console down and remove the card before redownloading, so the new copy cannot reuse a damaged file or a failing card path.
  6. Test the microSD Express card. If startup problems continue and the game had been using the card, Nintendo’s guidance is to format or replace the microSD Express card. Formatting erases the card, so first verify that you can restore any other data stored there and understand your save-data situation. A useful diagnostic is to leave the card out and run a clean system-memory installation; do not assume that a card change cures every crash.
  7. Use Nintendo’s unexpected-error recovery. When the game closes with “The software was closed because an error occurred,” retry after each earlier step. If the message persists, Nintendo documents restoring the Switch 2 to factory settings without deleting save data, followed by a redownload to system memory. Read every on-screen choice carefully: select the reset option that preserves save data, not a full erase, and do not interrupt the reset or the subsequent download.
  8. Contact support. If House Flipper 2 still fails after the sequence, Nintendo says to contact support. House Flipper’s First steps guidance (updated 21 February 2025) routes technical issues through its Quick Support and FAQ channels. Include the exact error text, the point of failure, whether the copy is digital or card-based, the storage location, the Switch 2 system version, and whether a new save shows the same behavior.

Match the procedure to the symptom

Symptom Start with What the result tells you
Nothing happens or the game closes immediately at launch Restart, system update, game update, corrupt-data check A corrected system component or damaged installation may have been preventing startup.
Endless loading before the title screen or after selecting a job Updates and corrupt-data check, then a system-memory redownload Testing without the microSD Express card separates installation/storage problems from a broader software issue.
Freeze during play with no error message Normal restart, then both updates; repeat the same action after a clean redownload Record the location, job, and time. A repeatable freeze is useful evidence, but it is not proof of a confirmed game bug.
“The software was closed because an error occurred” Complete the sequence, then use the factory reset that preserves save data if necessary Nintendo treats this as an unexpected software error requiring platform recovery when ordinary repairs fail.
Console becomes completely unresponsive Hold POWER for 12 seconds, power on, and resume with the update checks If the console itself repeatedly locks up outside House Flipper 2, report that broader pattern to Nintendo.

Why system memory is the decisive storage test

A microSD Express card adds a separate storage device, file system, and physical connection to the software path. A game that works from system memory but fails from the card points toward the card, its formatting, or the files written there; it does not establish that House Flipper 2 itself is defective. Conversely, a failure that reproduces on a fresh system-memory installation is less likely to be caused solely by the card.

  • HEAT MANAGEMENT REIMAGINED. SanDisk ThermAdapt helps keep devices from overheating with a specially designed enclosure and controller that uses dynamic adaptive thermal management.

Nintendo specifically recommends formatting or replacing the microSD Express card when downloaded software will not start after the ordinary checks. Treat formatting as destructive. Remove the card only while the console is powered down, and do not use the card again until you have decided whether to format it, replace it, or keep the game in system memory. If you purchase a replacement, choose a microSD Express model compatible with Switch 2 rather than assuming every older microSD card is equivalent.

Redownloading without losing the diagnostic trail

Before deleting the software, capture the system version, the game’s update status, the storage location, and the exact screen where it fails. Then delete and redownload while connected to a stable internet connection. A clean system-memory installation is the most informative first redownload because it removes the card from the test.

After installation, launch the game before importing, copying, or otherwise changing additional content. Test the same menu, job, or loading transition that originally failed. If a new save works but an existing save fails, report that distinction rather than describing the entire game as broken; the evidence then concerns a particular save path, although no official source currently confirms a House Flipper 2 save-specific Switch 2 defect.

Using the factory reset that preserves save data

This is the final platform recovery step, not a routine reinstall. Nintendo documents it for persistent unexpected-error closes after the other remedies have been tried. Read the reset screens slowly and choose the option explicitly described as restoring factory settings without deleting save data. A different reset choice can erase user data.

What House Flipper’s PC troubleshooting does—and does not—tell Switch 2 players

House Flipper’s detailed crash and infinite-loading advice discusses PC graphics hardware, graphics drivers, BIOS settings, frame-rate limits, cloud-synchronization folders, and antivirus software. Those controls do not exist on Nintendo Switch 2 and should not be copied into a console guide. A separate House Flipper support notice says the developers do not develop the Nintendo Switch or mobile versions, so PC instructions cannot establish a Switch 2 fix.

The company’s First steps page, updated 21 February 2025, directs players with technical issues to Quick Support and its FAQ and links information about save-file migration. Use those channels to submit a console-specific report, but rely on Nintendo’s Switch 2 procedure for restarts, updates, corrupt-data checks, storage tests, and the save-preserving factory reset.

How to report an unresolved case

A precise report prevents support from sending you back through generic steps. Include:

  • The full message shown on screen, including whether it says the software was closed because an error occurred.
  • Whether the failure happens at launch, during a loading screen, when starting a named job, or during ordinary play.
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 system version and House Flipper 2 update status.
  • Whether the game is digital or card-based and whether it is installed on system memory or a microSD Express card.
  • Which steps you completed: restart, both updates, corrupt-data check, redownload, card removal or replacement, and the save-preserving factory reset if used.
  • Whether the same action fails with a new save, and whether the game behaves differently with the microSD Express card removed.

Do not claim a confirmed mission, downloadable-content, shader, or save-file bug unless Nintendo or Frozen District publishes a reproduction and fix. At present, no authoritative source confirms a House Flipper 2-specific Switch 2 defect or patch. Describe the observable symptom and the storage and software conditions under which it occurs.

Quick decision checklist

  • Restart normally; force power off only when the console is unresponsive.
  • Install the current Switch 2 system update; Nintendo lists version 23.0.1 from 30 September 2026.
  • Update House Flipper 2 from HOME with + or − > Software Update > Via the Internet.
  • Run System Settings > Data Management > Manage Software > House Flipper 2 > Check for Corrupt Data.
  • Redownload to system memory, with the microSD Express card removed for the test.
  • If the card path is implicated, back up or verify data handling before formatting or replacing the card.
  • For persistent unexpected-error closes, use Nintendo’s factory reset option that preserves save data, then redownload to system memory.
  • Escalate with the exact error, timing, storage location, versions, and reproduction details.
