On Android, also check the Google app’s microphone and camera permissions and Android’s device-wide privacy controls. Screen sharing has a separate requirement: Gemini Live notifications must be enabled.
Start with the symptom

Fix a Gemini Live microphone problem
Check whether Live is muted
During an active Live conversation, tap Hold to mute or unmute the microphone. End finishes the session. On Android, muting Live turns off the device microphone while video or screen sharing can continue, so seeing shared media does not mean the microphone is active. Google’s Gemini Live controls guide

Check Android microphone access
- Open Android Settings and go to Apps (or the device’s equivalent app list).
- Select Google, then open Permissions.
- Allow Microphone access if it is denied. Google’s Android privacy guidance explains that Gemini is hosted by the Google app and relies on that app’s permissions for capabilities such as microphone access. Gemini Apps Privacy Hub
Android also has device-wide microphone privacy controls that can block access even when an app permission is allowed. Check the microphone control in your device’s privacy settings; its exact name and location vary by Android version and manufacturer. iPhone and iPad
In the Gemini app, open Live by tapping the Live control or swiping to Live. Use Hold to turn off the microphone or End to finish the conversation. Google’s iPhone and iPad guide documents these Live controls, but does not provide a direct, version-specific walkthrough for iOS microphone permissions. Fix a Gemini Live camera problem
Allow camera access on Android
Open Settings > Apps > Google > Permissions and allow Camera access. Also check Android’s device-wide camera privacy control: it can block camera access even when the Google app has permission. Check whether Live turned the camera off automatically
Google says the camera turns off when you put Live on hold, leave the Gemini app, or lock the screen. After you resume from Hold, the camera turns back on automatically. If you left the app or locked the screen, returning to Live or unlocking the device does not restart camera sharing; tap the camera control in Live to turn it on again. Fix Gemini Live screen sharing
If sharing will not start
Google requires Gemini Live notifications to be enabled on the device before you can share the screen. Start sharing from the Live screen and follow the operating-system prompt. Google also documents a Share screen with Live entry point outside the app; it may not appear when another feature is considered more helpful. Google’s Gemini Live controls guide
If sharing stopped
Screen sharing stops when you put Live on hold or lock the screen. It does not resume automatically when you continue Live or unlock the device, so start screen sharing again. Google warns that When you share your screen, your full screen is shared with Gemini.

What to check when you use iPhone, iPad, or the web
Google’s iPhone and iPad documentation covers Live controls, camera, and screen-sharing behavior. The permission instructions above are specifically for Android and should not be treated as universal iOS menu steps. Google states that Gemini Live is not currently available in the Gemini web app, so browser microphone troubleshooting is not a substitute for using the supported mobile experience. Record the device model and operating-system version, whether the failure is microphone input or audio output, whether ordinary apps can capture audio, and which Live controls and permissions you checked. The official guidance cited here does not establish Bluetooth routing, a network problem, an app defect, or damaged hardware as the cause of a persistent failure.
