Start with the symptom, not a list of random fixes
A download that stops moving, an installation that cannot create a folder, and a game that takes a long time to verify can have different causes. Check the Epic Games status page first. If a service is degraded or unavailable, changing local settings may not help until Epic resolves the issue.

For a broader launcher problem, Epic also recommends checking for launcher updates and confirming that the device meets the launcher’s system requirements. If the launcher works normally but one game will not install, use the matching path below.
- Download is stuck: follow Epic’s sign-out and sign-in procedure below.
- Download is moving, but slowly: check the network and launcher download settings.
- II-E1003: use the error-specific steps.
- IS-0003 or a directory-creation failure: clear the launcher cache and retry with administrator access.
- “Verifying” or “Installing” appears to run indefinitely: check free space on the destination drive.
If the download is stuck
Epic’s specific procedure for a download stuck in the launcher is to sign out, close any remaining Epic processes, and start the download again through a redirected sign-in. Follow the sequence in order:

- Sign out of your Epic account in the launcher.
- Open Task Manager and force-close any remaining Epic Games Launcher processes.
- Reopen the launcher and enable Debug Logging in its Settings.
- Return to the login screen and choose Sign In Later.
- Select the game you want to download. The launcher should redirect you to sign in.
- Sign in, then choose Download.
This is Epic’s listed procedure, not a guarantee that every stall has the same cause. If the service status is normal and the download remains stuck, continue with the relevant cache or network checks below.
If the launcher shows error II-E1003
Epic describes II-E1003 as the launcher being unable to download the game files needed for installation. Its recommended sequence is to check that the launcher is up to date, verify the game files, clear the launcher cache, and change DNS if needed. Reinstalling the launcher is a later option—not a first step—because Epic warns that it removes all games installed through the launcher.

- Check for a launcher update and install it if one is available.
- In your Library, use the game’s three-dot menu and select Manage > Verify.
- Clear the launcher’s web cache using the Windows or Mac instructions below, then reopen the launcher.
- If the error persists, consider changing DNS as a targeted network troubleshooting step. DNS changes are not a universal fix; use settings appropriate to your network.
- Only after the less disruptive steps fail, consider reinstalling the launcher, bearing in mind Epic’s warning that installed games will be removed.
If you see IS-0003 or “Could not create directory”
IS-0003 indicates that Epic Games Launcher could not create a directory while installing or updating. Epic’s troubleshooting procedure is to clear the launcher’s web cache, restart the computer, run the launcher as administrator, and try again. These steps address possible cache or permission issues, but the error does not establish that either is always the cause.

- Restart the computer.
- On Windows, right-click Epic Games Launcher and choose Run as administrator.
- Retry the install or update.
If “Verifying” or “Installing” does not finish
A long verification or installation stage can be a storage problem rather than a frozen launcher. Epic notes that decompressing game files may require more free space than the game’s announced size.

- Check available space on the drive selected for the installation.
- Compare it with the game’s current storage requirements on its official page; those requirements can vary by title and may change.
- Free up space only if the destination drive is short of capacity. An additional drive, including a compatible external SSD, is relevant only when insufficient space is confirmed; it will not fix a service, cache, account, or network issue.
If the download is slow rather than stuck
When transfer continues but is slower than expected, work from the connection outward. Epic’s slow-download guidance includes these checks:
- Check Epic’s service status before changing local settings.
- If possible, test a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi, or try another connection to see whether the issue is specific to the current network.
- Check that the launcher’s download-speed limit is turned off.
- Clear the device or launcher cache as appropriate.
- Check whether your network or security software is blocking Epic domains, and allow them only if your setup requires it and you can do so safely.
- Flush DNS or switch to a public DNS provider only if network troubleshooting points in that direction.
- Check for a proxy server and disable it only if it is interfering with the connection; do not remove a proxy required by a work, school, or managed network.
These are troubleshooting options, not a reason to disable security protections indiscriminately. A DNS or proxy change is not a guaranteed remedy for a slow download.

Clear the Epic Games Launcher cache
Epic says the launcher cache stores information from previous use; removing its webcache folders lets the launcher rebuild them. Quit the launcher fully before deleting cache folders. Remove only the named webcache folders—not game installation folders.

Windows
- Exit Epic Games Launcher using its system-tray icon.
- Open the Windows Run dialog, enter
%localappdata%, and open theEpicGamesLauncher/Savedfolder. - Delete
webcache,webcache_4147, andwebcache_4430if present. Your installation may have fewer of these folders. - Reopen Epic Games Launcher and try again.
Mac
- Quit Epic Games Launcher.
- In Finder, open
~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher. - Remove the
webcachefolder if present. - Reopen the launcher and retry.
Verify the game’s installed files
Verification is useful when local game files may be damaged or corrupted. Epic explains that it checks files on your computer and repairs files that differ from the expected versions. Epic says verification does not affect saved data, but it will not solve a server outage, account problem, insufficient disk space, or every network fault.

- Open Library in Epic Games Launcher.
- Open the game’s three-dot menu.
- Select Manage, then Verify.
If the game is missing from your Library
A title missing from the Library is not necessarily an installation failure. Epic recommends checking the launcher and account before retrying a download:
- Restart the launcher, then refresh the Library; check any active Library filters and whether the game is hidden.
- Clear the launcher web cache using the instructions above.
- Confirm that the game supports your operating system.
- Check that you are signed into the Epic account and platform where the game was purchased or redeemed, and confirm it has not been refunded.
- Consider whether the title was a limited-time build, a revoked fraudulent code, or a gift purchase; these can affect whether it appears as expected.
If the game’s eligibility or platform requirements are unclear, check its official Epic Store page or contact Epic support with the account and purchase details.
Leave launcher reinstallation until last
Epic lists launcher reinstallation among its general troubleshooting measures and as a possible II-E1003 remedy, but it is more disruptive than restarting, clearing cache, or verifying files. Epic specifically warns that reinstalling the launcher removes games installed through it. Use it only after symptom-specific steps have failed, and be prepared to reinstall those games afterward.
