That separates a platform-wide failure from a single lobby, your home network, or a Death Dealer service problem. Next test your router and a direct Ethernet connection, review firewall rules, and temporarily close software that can interfere with Steam. Do not open arbitrary ports: the official Death Dealer materials do not publish a port list or a game-specific networking fix.
Death Dealer is listed on Steam as an online multiplayer horror party game for up to six players that requires broadband internet. The listing represented the game as coming soon or not yet generally available at the time of the source, so release, playtest and server availability may have changed. Verify the current Steam listing before assuming a connection error is caused by your computer.

Use this order before changing anything
Connection troubleshooting is fastest when each test answers one question. Work from the outside in: Steam service, another game, your local network, security software, then the Death Dealer lobby itself. Record what happens after each step instead of changing several settings at once.
- Check Steam Server Status and whether Steam sites load normally.
- Confirm that Steam Friends appears connected.
- Try another Steam game server, if one is available to you.
- Restart and test your router; then try a direct wired connection.
- Review the firewall and close potentially interfering background applications.
- Retry Death Dealer and record the exact lobby or connection message.
- If only Death Dealer still fails, report the details through the game’s official Discord route.
Steam’s published guidance is platform-wide. It does not prove that Death Dealer uses a particular server architecture, port range or lobby protocol, so the tests below are diagnostic rather than a claim about the game’s internals.

First determine whether Steam is the problem
Check Steam availability
Open Steam’s server-status information and try loading Steam pages in a browser. A broad outage, maintenance event or failed Steam client connection can prevent every game lobby from working. In that situation, reinstalling Death Dealer, changing router settings or buying networking hardware will not repair the underlying service.
Also check whether the Steam client can sign in normally and whether your Friends list shows an active connection. Steam’s server-verification guidance specifically uses Steam availability and Friends connectivity to distinguish a platform problem from an individual game-server problem.
Compare with another Steam game
Launch another multiplayer Steam title and try to reach a server or online session. Use the result as a scope test:
| Result | Most useful interpretation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| No Steam pages, client connection or game servers work | A Steam-wide, client or network-path problem is more likely than a Death Dealer lobby defect. | Wait for Steam service recovery if there is an outage; otherwise continue with router, wired-connection and firewall checks. |
| Other Steam games work, but Death Dealer does not | The problem may be limited to Death Dealer’s service, its current availability, a particular lobby or a title-specific client issue. | Retry once after the local checks, then report the exact symptom through the official Death Dealer community channel. |
| Some servers in another game work and one does not | A specific server or endpoint may be failing; this is a general Steam diagnostic, not evidence of Death Dealer’s server design. | Try a different lobby or server when the game offers that choice and document which one fails. |
| Steam Friends is offline while other local internet use works | The Steam client or its network path may be unable to reach required Steam services. | Restart Steam, check status again and review firewall or proxy restrictions. |
Test the home connection without guessing
Restart and inspect the router
Steam recommends testing the router when game-server connections fail. Power-cycle it using the manufacturer’s normal procedure, wait until internet service is fully restored, then restart Steam and Death Dealer. This can clear a transient state, but it is not proof that the router was the cause.
Check whether other devices on the same connection are consuming unusually large amounts of bandwidth. Pause large downloads, cloud synchronization and video streams during the test so that the multiplayer attempt is not competing with avoidable traffic. If the connection drops for every device, contact your internet provider rather than changing Death Dealer settings.
Use Ethernet as a controlled comparison
If the computer normally uses Wi-Fi or powerline networking, connect it directly to the router with an Ethernet cable and repeat the same lobby attempt. A Cat 6 cable is sufficient as an optional diagnostic accessory; it is not a required Death Dealer component and cannot fix a problem caused by Steam or a remote server.
Interpret the comparison carefully:
- Wired works, Wi-Fi fails: wireless interference, signal strength, congestion or powerline instability is implicated. Improve the wireless path or use the wired connection.
- Both wired and Wi-Fi fail: the cause is less likely to be local radio interference. Continue with Steam status, firewall and availability checks.
- Neither test is possible: record that limitation; do not present an untested cable change as a solution.
Review firewall, proxy and background-software interference
Check firewall permissions
Steam advises reviewing firewall configuration, especially after a Steam installation or update. A new or changed rule can block a client that worked previously. In your operating system’s firewall controls, verify that Steam and the installed Death Dealer executable are allowed to communicate on the networks you actually use. If the firewall asks whether to allow an application, read the application name and path carefully before accepting.

Do not disable protection permanently. If you perform a short diagnostic test with a firewall rule changed, restore the safer configuration immediately afterward and use the result to identify which rule needs correction. A firewall test does not establish that a specific inbound port is required.
Close possible conflicts one at a time
Steam’s general guidance recommends disabling or reconfiguring programs that interfere with Steam. For a controlled test, close overlays, traffic filters, aggressive security tools, VPN or proxy software and network-monitoring utilities that are not required for the computer to operate. Then retry the lobby. If the connection changes, re-enable programs individually to find the conflict instead of leaving all protections off.
University, company and hotel networks may impose additional restrictions. Steam notes that proxies, blocked ports, traffic shaping and institutional policies can prevent required Steam traffic. Ask the network administrator whether gaming or Steam traffic is restricted. Because the Death Dealer listing does not publish its specific ports, do not follow an internet post that tells you to open an unverified port range.
Diagnose the exact lobby symptom
“I cannot join a lobby”
First establish whether the lobby is visible to anyone else. Ask the host and another participant whether they can see the same lobby and whether a different player can join. If every player fails to enter, a service or lobby-side problem is more plausible. If only one player fails while others join, focus on that player’s Steam connection, firewall and network path.
Recommended Free Tools
Capture the lobby name or identifier if the interface shows one, the approximate time, the host’s region if displayed, and the full error text. Do not infer a port or NAT failure solely from the word “lobby”; the official materials do not define Death Dealer’s lobby implementation.
“Failed to connect” or an immediate return to the menu
Repeat the attempt after confirming Steam Friends is online and another Steam game can reach a server. If the failure is immediate in every Death Dealer lobby, it may be a title availability or client issue. If only one lobby fails, try another when possible and report that comparison.
“Multiplayer keeps disconnecting”
Determine whether the disconnect affects all players or just one. A simultaneous drop for the whole group points toward the lobby or service; one player’s repeated drop points toward that player’s connection, firewall or local interference. Test wired versus Wi-Fi and pause competing traffic before making conclusions. Record how long the session lasts before disconnecting and whether the Steam Friends connection changes at the same time.

The game is not available or playtest access is missing
The Steam listing used for this guidance described Death Dealer as coming soon or not yet available and included a playtest access request. Availability can change independently of your network. Check the current listing, your account’s access status and any official announcement before treating an unavailable button or missing lobby as a connection failure. There is no evidence here that reinstalling the client grants access.

Read the timing of the failure
Timing can make your report more useful without proving a particular technical cause. A failure before any lobby appears is different from a disconnect several minutes into a session. Note whether the error happens at launch, when accepting an invite, while loading a lobby, or after play has started. Also note whether Steam’s Friends list changes state at the same moment.
If the same person fails in every lobby while other players enter normally, repeat the Steam sign-in and local-network checks on that computer. If all participants disappear together, compare the event with Steam status and try again later rather than repeatedly changing local settings. If one named lobby fails but another works, preserve both results in your report. These comparisons narrow the scope; they do not identify Death Dealer’s networking architecture.
Use one controlled change per attempt. For example, test the same lobby over Wi-Fi, then repeat over Ethernet, rather than changing the router, firewall and VPN simultaneously. A reproducible sequence gives the Discord community enough information to distinguish a local condition from a broader service incident.
What each test can and cannot prove
| Test | What a positive result suggests | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Steam status page loads and Friends is online | Steam is reachable from the client or browser at that moment. | Death Dealer’s own service is available or your chosen lobby is healthy. |
| Another Steam game reaches a server | Your account and general path to at least one game service work. | Death Dealer has no title-specific fault. |
| Ethernet succeeds where Wi-Fi fails | The wireless or powerline path is a strong suspect. | That a new router or cable is required. |
| Changing a firewall rule changes the result | A local security rule may be blocking traffic. | That an arbitrary inbound port should be opened permanently. |
| One lobby fails while others work | The particular lobby or endpoint may be the issue. | That Death Dealer universally uses dedicated servers or a specific networking model. |
When not to keep changing your setup
Stop local experimentation when Steam works, other game servers work, wired and Wi-Fi tests produce the same Death Dealer result, and the failure appears in multiple lobbies. At that point, repeated reinstalls, random port forwarding and permanent firewall deactivation add risk without evidence that they address the cause.
Likewise, do not label a temporary outage as a confirmed bug. The official materials do not verify an active Death Dealer outage, a known lobby defect or a developer-published connection workaround. A clean diagnostic record is more useful than a speculative fix.
Report a Death Dealer-specific problem effectively
The Death Dealer Steam Community page directs players to the game’s Discord for problems, feedback and finding other players. Use that official route when the general Steam checks do not resolve the issue. A concise report should include:
Rank #4
- The game where Death is the Life of the Party !
- How to Play: Split into two or more teams. In 45-second rounds, players pull cards and act out the cards while their team guesses the charade.
- The actor mustn't speak, but noises are very much encouraged!
- Play however many rounds you like, or until you've run out of cards, and the team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
- Free timer available in the app store for the full experience
- Your operating system and whether Death Dealer is installed through Steam.
- The exact error text, copied rather than paraphrased.
- Whether Steam signed in normally and whether Friends was online.
- Whether another Steam game reached a server.
- Whether every Death Dealer lobby failed or only one.
- Whether the test used Wi-Fi, powerline networking or direct Ethernet.
- Whether restarting the router or changing a firewall rule altered the result.
- The approximate date and time, your region if relevant, and whether other players were disconnected simultaneously.
Never include passwords, authentication codes or other private account information. Do not promise that a Discord report will receive a particular response time; the available community guidance provides a contact route, not a service-level guarantee.
Keep the report factual. “Steam Friends was online, two other Steam games connected, three Death Dealer lobbies failed on both Wi-Fi and Ethernet at 21:00 UTC” is more actionable than “multiplayer is broken.” If a later retry succeeds, update the same report with the time and what changed.
Death Dealer networking facts that are currently established
The official Steam listing identifies Death Dealer as a multiplayer horror party game supporting up to six players and requiring broadband internet. It does not document cross-play, a port list, router configuration, matchmaking protocol, dedicated-server behavior or a title-specific troubleshooting procedure. Those details should be treated as unknown unless the developer publishes them.
Because the listing’s availability was represented as coming soon or not yet available in the source material, a reader may encounter access or lobby symptoms caused by release status rather than a defective home connection. Check the live Steam listing and official community announcements before applying advanced network changes.
The six-player maximum is a product-listing limit, not a promise that every lobby will fill or that a particular connection error is caused by too many players. Broadband is likewise a stated requirement, not a published speed target. Do not turn either fact into an unsupported bandwidth recommendation.

- Steam check: Is Steam reachable, and is Friends online? If not, resolve or wait for Steam service issues first.
- Comparison check: Can another Steam game reach a server? If no, keep the investigation at the Steam or network level.
- Local-path check: Did a router restart or direct Ethernet test change the result? If yes, investigate Wi-Fi, powerline or router conditions.
- Security check: Are Steam and Death Dealer permitted by the firewall, and does closing an interfering application change the result?
- Scope check: Do all Death Dealer lobbies fail, or only one? Use that distinction in your report.
- Availability check: Is the current game listing, release state or playtest access different from the source description?
- Escalation: If the issue remains Death Dealer-specific, send the complete record through the official Discord route rather than opening unverified ports.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I check first when Death Dealer will not connect?
Check Steam Server Status, confirm that the Steam client is signed in and Friends is online, then try another multiplayer Steam game. Those checks show whether the failure is broader than Death Dealer before you change local settings.

Can an Ethernet cable fix a Death Dealer lobby problem?
A direct wired connection is a diagnostic comparison recommended by Steam for intermittent Wi-Fi or powerline connections. If Ethernet works while Wi-Fi fails, the wireless path is implicated. It is optional and cannot fix a Steam outage or remote lobby failure.
Why do other Steam games work while Death Dealer does not?
That result makes a Steam-wide outage less likely, but it does not prove a Death Dealer bug. Check the game’s current availability, try another Death Dealer lobby, record the error and send the comparison to the official community channel.
How can I tell whether the lobby or my computer is at fault?
Ask whether other players can see and join the same lobby. If everyone fails, a lobby or service issue is more plausible. If others join and only you fail, focus on Steam Friends connectivity, firewall rules, background software and your network path.

Does Death Dealer support cross-play or use dedicated servers?
The official Steam listing does not specify cross-play, dedicated-server behavior, matchmaking protocol or router requirements. Treat those details as unknown until the developer publishes them.
Could the problem be that the game or playtest is unavailable?
Yes. The listing represented in the source material described Death Dealer as coming soon or not yet generally available and included a playtest access request. Check the live Steam listing, your account access and official announcements before treating a missing lobby as a network fault.
The Bottom Line
Start with Steam status and Friends connectivity, compare another Steam game, then test the router, Ethernet path and firewall without opening unverified ports. If only Death Dealer continues to fail across multiple lobbies, document the exact conditions and use the game’s official Discord route; there is no verified title-specific connection fix to promise.
