On Switch 2, open System Settings → Data Management → Save Data Cloud, select the same Nintendo Account user you used on the original console, and compare the cloud-backup timestamp with the console-save timestamp. Keep the newer copy: choose Back Up Save Data when the console is newer, or Download Save Data when the cloud copy is newer. Either operation replaces the other copy, so the timestamp check is the critical safety step.
If both consoles are available during initial Switch 2 setup, Nintendo’s local System Transfer is a separate migration route that moves save data and settings directly. Cloud recovery requires an active Nintendo Switch Online membership and requires that Cult of the Lamb actually appear in the selected user’s Save Data Cloud list.

What is actually being transferred
Your Cult of the Lamb save is associated with the Nintendo Account and user profile that created or used it, not simply with the cartridge or game installation. The Switch 2 therefore needs the same Nintendo Account and the same user context before it can see the correct console or cloud copy.

There are three situations that are often described as “moving the save,” but they are different:

- Local System Transfer: During initial Switch 2 setup, the two consoles communicate directly to move saves and settings.
- Server-based transfer: Nintendo provides a temporary server-transfer route when the original console will not be retained or cannot participate in a local transfer.
A cloud backup is not guaranteed merely because the game is installed. Nintendo notes that some games do not support Save Data Cloud, so confirm that Cult of the Lamb is listed for the selected user before assuming that a backup exists.
Do these checks before selecting any transfer command
These checks prevent the most common form of data loss: replacing a newer save with an older one before you have identified which copy is current.
- Use the same Nintendo Account. On Switch 2, select the account that was used for the original Cult of the Lamb save. If several people use the console, check the user icon and name rather than assuming the first profile is correct.
- Confirm Nintendo Switch Online. Nintendo states that an active Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for Save Data Cloud. If a membership expired, Nintendo says existing backups can be accessed again when the user resubscribes within 180 days of expiration.
- Do not launch the game on both consoles while deciding. Opening the game on a second console can create a server-updated conflict if the newest server copy has not been downloaded first.
- Check that the game is listed in Save Data Cloud. If it is absent for the selected user, there may be no cloud backup available through that service, and you should use a local System Transfer if possible.
- Record both timestamps. The Switch 2 screen shows the latest cloud backup and the latest save on the console. Write them down or take a photograph before proceeding.
How to compare the cloud and console saves on Switch 2
Use Nintendo’s Save Data Cloud screen rather than guessing from the date you last remember playing.

- Choose Data Management.
- Open Save Data Cloud.
- Select the intended user profile.
- Select Cult of the Lamb.
- Read the displayed dates and times for the latest cloud backup and the latest save on the console.
The newer timestamp is normally the copy you want to preserve. A cloud timestamp can be older even when the game itself was downloaded recently; the timestamp concerns saved progress, not the game software or a recent installation.

Choose the correct operation
When the Switch 2 console save is newer
If the console timestamp includes your latest play session and the cloud timestamp is older, choose Back Up Save Data. This uploads the console copy to the cloud and replaces the older cloud backup. Use this when you intentionally played on Switch 2 after the last successful cloud backup.
When the cloud save is newer
If the cloud timestamp is later than the save currently on Switch 2, choose Download Save Data. This replaces the local copy with the newer cloud backup. It is the appropriate choice when the original Switch had the latest progress or when the Switch 2 was started with an old or empty save.
When the timestamps are equal
Equal timestamps indicate that Nintendo sees the copies as having the same backup time. If the game still shows missing progress, first verify the selected user, restart the console, and check for corrupted data before attempting a destructive operation. Do not delete the user to “reset” synchronization: deleting a user also deletes that user’s save data.
Why the warning matters
Nintendo warns that the copy overwritten by a backup or download cannot be recovered through that operation. There is no safe “merge” command that combines two different Cult of the Lamb histories. If you are uncertain which session contains the wanted progress, stop and identify the timestamps again rather than choosing the first available button.

Transfer a save during a new Switch 2 setup
When you still have the original Switch and it is available, local System Transfer is usually the cleanest migration path during initial Switch 2 setup. Nintendo describes this process as transferring save data and settings over local communication between the two consoles.
Use local System Transfer when both consoles are present
- Start the Switch 2’s initial setup and keep the original Switch powered on and nearby.
- When setup presents the transfer option, choose the local System Transfer path.
- Follow the on-screen instructions on both consoles and select the same Nintendo Account when prompted.
- Keep both systems powered and close together until the transfer reports completion.
- After setup, open System Settings → Data Management → Save Data Cloud on Switch 2 and confirm that the expected user and Cult of the Lamb save are present.
Local transfer is distinct from downloading a cloud backup. It is useful when the original console has the newest local save but that save was never uploaded, provided the original console can participate in setup.
When the old console will not be retained
Nintendo also provides a temporary server-transfer route for a Switch 2 setup in which the old console is not retained. Follow the prompts shown by the consoles and sign in with the same Nintendo Account. Because this route involves a server copy and can affect what is available on the original system, do not keep launching Cult of the Lamb on both consoles while the transfer is pending.

Fix the “server-updated” or “backup cancelled” message
A server-updated cancellation message generally means the game was played on another console before the newest server copy was downloaded. Nintendo’s guidance is to stop creating more sessions and decide which version should become authoritative.

- Stop launching the game on both consoles. Close Cult of the Lamb and do not alternate between systems while the conflict is unresolved.
- Read the message carefully. It indicates that a newer save exists on Nintendo’s server than the copy the current console was about to use.
- Keep the server version if it contains the wanted progress. Choose the option to download the server copy.
- Keep the console version if that is the deliberate latest session. Choose the option to back up the console copy instead.
- Restore automatic backup. If automatic backup was disabled during troubleshooting, turn it back on after the preferred copy has been established.
Nintendo states that each user can back up only one save-data file to the cloud per game. That means the cloud is not a version history: once you replace the stored copy, an earlier cloud state is not available as a separate selectable file.

1. Update the console and the game
Install any available Switch 2 system update and update Cult of the Lamb. Restart the console after updating, then revisit the Save Data Cloud screen. A stale system or game version can prevent an otherwise valid save from being displayed or read correctly.
2. Confirm the user profile
Return to the HOME Menu and check which user launches the game. A save belonging to one user is not automatically visible when another user opens the title. Recheck System Settings → Data Management → Save Data Cloud with each plausible user only if you are authorized to use those profiles.
3. Check for corrupted data
Use the Switch 2 data-management option for checking corrupted data, then restart and test the game again. This check addresses damaged game data; it does not create a missing cloud backup. Do not delete the save or user as a first troubleshooting step.
4. Download only after verifying the cloud timestamp
If Cult of the Lamb appears in the selected user’s cloud list and the cloud timestamp is newer, use Download Save Data. If the title is not listed, cloud download is not an available recovery path for that user, so investigate local transfer or the original console instead.
5. Do not delete a user to solve synchronization
Nintendo warns that deleting a user deletes that user’s save data. Removing and recreating a profile can therefore destroy the only local copy. Preserve the profile until you have confirmed the desired save is safely on the Switch 2.

Prevent the problem on future console changes
- Before moving systems, open Save Data Cloud for the relevant user and wait for the backup to complete while the newest console save is present.
- Record the cloud timestamp after a major play session or before lending, repairing, or resetting a console.
- Use one Nintendo Account user consistently for the game; do not assume another profile can access the same save.
- Keep Nintendo Switch Online active when you rely on cloud recovery. If a membership lapses, the 180-day resubscription window described by Nintendo is the relevant limit for regaining access to existing backups.
- After a transfer, launch the game on only one console until you have checked the new save and confirmed that automatic backup is enabled.
- Keep the original console untouched until the Switch 2 save has loaded correctly and the progress, user profile, and cloud timestamp all look right.
What this means for Cult of the Lamb specifically
Nintendo’s published guidance is at the console and service level; it does not identify a confirmed Cult of the Lamb-specific Switch 2 defect. The practical recovery choices are therefore the standard Nintendo paths: verify the account and membership, compare timestamps, use local System Transfer when available, and select either backup or download based on which copy is newer.

If no cloud entry exists and the original console is unavailable, Nintendo’s support channels are the appropriate next step because the standard download procedure has no source file to retrieve.
