How to Fix Crazy Taxi: World Tour Crashes, Lag, and Controller Problems (Before the 2027 Release)

You cannot apply a confirmed retail fix yet. As of October 19, 2026, Crazy Taxi: World Tour is not available for purchase; Steam lists a planned 2027 release. The only official hands-on information comes from SEGA’s closed network test, which used a development build and warned that participants could encounter bugs or performance problems. Any crash, lag, or controller report from that test should not be treated as proof of a problem in the final game.

This guide separates what is officially known from what must wait for launch. It gives you a practical diagnostic plan for release day without presenting unverified settings, controllers, drivers, or workarounds as guaranteed fixes.

What is actually available now

There is no released retail build to repair. Steam currently shows the PC version as planned for 2027, and its listing does not yet publish final processor, graphics, sound-card, or additional-requirement details. The Windows requirement shown there is Windows 11.

SEGA’s closed test was a multiplayer-stability evaluation, not a finished product. The test page states that it used a development build, that bugs and performance issues could occur, and that a smooth experience was not guaranteed. SEGA also says the final game’s requirements may differ from those posted for the test. That distinction matters: a test crash is evidence about that test build and hardware combination, not a confirmed retail defect.

These targets describe the test configuration and its stated goals; they are not a promise that a retail copy will run at those settings or frame rates. Steam’s current listing leaves several retail fields unspecified, so wait for the final specification sheet before deciding whether a PC is supported.

Before launch: prepare without guessing at fixes

Watch the authoritative release information

Check the game’s Steam listing and SEGA’s own support announcements when the release approaches. Look for the final Windows version, processor and GPU requirements, storage size, controller-compatibility information, and any launch-day patch notes. Those details can replace the test figures; community posts cannot.

Record your system and connection

Make a short record before installing:

  • Platform and exact model (for example, a particular Xbox Series console, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, or a Windows PC).
  • Operating-system version and game build number once displayed.
  • For PC, processor, graphics card and VRAM, system RAM, DirectX version, and whether the game is installed on an SSD.
  • Display resolution and refresh rate.
  • Internet connection type, approximate download/upload speed, and whether the symptom appears only during online play.
  • Controller model, wired or wireless connection, and whether it is connected directly or through an adapter, hub, or dock.

This information lets support distinguish a software crash from an input, network, or platform-specific problem.

If the game crashes after release

Do not start by changing several settings at once. A controlled sequence creates evidence that SEGA or the platform holder can use.

  1. Identify the stage. Note whether the crash occurs before the title screen, while loading a save, when joining an online session, after changing a menu option, or during a race. Write down the exact error text and the local time.
  2. Check the build. Confirm that the platform has completed its update and that the displayed version matches the latest official announcement. A partially installed update can produce a different result from a clean, current build.
  3. Reproduce once. Restart the platform, launch the game, and repeat the same action only once or twice. If the failure is consistent, record the steps; if it is intermittent, record what changed between attempts.
  4. Separate online and offline behavior. If an offline activity works but an online session fails, record that distinction rather than calling it a general crash. If both fail, say so.
  5. Preserve evidence. Save a screenshot or video of the error, the game version, and the platform screen. On Windows, note the time and application name in Event Viewer under Windows Logs > Application; do not delete logs before support requests them.
  6. Use the current official support path. Follow the platform holder’s and SEGA’s instructions for that released build. If they request a reinstall, cache operation, save backup, or diagnostic file, follow their exact order and back up saves first where the platform permits.

There is no published World Tour-specific launch option, driver change, file-verification procedure, or controller setting that can be described as an established cure today. Avoid advice that promises one.

How to investigate lag and poor performance

“Lag” can mean different failures. Classifying it prevents the wrong remedy.

Frame-rate or frame-pacing problems

These appear as uneven animation or delayed-looking movement even when the network is stable. Record whether the issue happens in menus, offline races, online races, or only after a particular visual effect. Include resolution, graphics preset, display refresh rate, and whether the problem began after an update. Do not assume the closed-test 30-FPS or 60-FPS targets apply to the retail build.

Network delay

Network delay is usually most obvious when other players or online actions respond late. Record whether other devices were using the same connection, whether the symptom disappears in an offline mode, and the time of day. A speed-test result by itself does not prove the game is at fault; include the platform’s connection status and any in-game network message.

Loading pauses or asset streaming

Long pauses during transitions are different from constant low frame rate. Note the exact transition, storage device, available free space, and whether the pause repeats after restarting. If the final PC requirements specify an SSD, compare your installation with that published requirement rather than relying on the closed-test storage line.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Controller problems: diagnose recognition before mapping

SEGA’s reviewed material does not publish a retail list of supported controller models or a symptom-specific controller fix. Treat compatibility as unconfirmed until the final documentation names the device and platform.

Controller is not detected

  1. Write down the platform, controller model, connection type, and whether the platform detects the controller outside the game.
  2. Test the controller in the platform’s own input screen. If it fails there, the problem is below the game and should be handled through platform or controller support.
  3. If the platform sees it but the game does not, record the exact game build, the port or wireless mode, and whether another input device is attached.
  4. Disconnect unneeded adapters, hubs, and extra controllers only when official support guidance recommends that test, then document the result rather than assuming it is a permanent fix.

Buttons are mapped incorrectly

Capture a photo of the in-game control layout and list the expected and observed actions. State whether the issue affects every menu or only driving controls, and whether it occurs with one controller or several. Do not install a third-party remapping utility or claim a particular input mode is supported unless SEGA or the platform documentation says so.

Wireless dropouts

Record battery or charge status, distance from the console or PC, wired-versus-wireless behavior, and whether the platform reports a disconnect. A dropout that also appears in the platform dashboard is not evidence of a World Tour software bug.

Platform-specific information to collect

Platform scope announced by SEGA What to include in a support report
Steam on Windows PC Windows edition and build, CPU, GPU and VRAM, RAM, DirectX version, SSD status, game build, display settings, controller connection, and crash stage.
Xbox Series X|S Console model, system version, game build, whether the issue occurs offline or online, and controller model or wireless status.
Xbox on PC Windows and Xbox app versions, hardware details, installation drive, game build, and whether the same account sees the issue on another supported device.
PlayStation 5 System software version, game build, storage location, online/offline distinction, and controller connection mode.
Nintendo Switch 2 System version, game build, handheld or docked mode, controller or Joy-Con configuration, and whether the symptom occurs in both modes.

The Switch 2 entry reflects SEGA’s announced full-game platform scope; it was not listed among the closed-test platforms in the cited test information.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using the original 2011 Crazy Taxi PC requirements. That is a different game and listing, so its specifications cannot validate World Tour hardware.
  • Treating test reports as retail failure rates. No official source establishes crash, lag, controller-failure, or resolution percentages.
  • Buying hardware before compatibility is published. The game is not yet available, and no official controller list or required accessory has been established.
  • Changing multiple variables together. You lose the ability to tell which change affected the symptom and make a support report harder to reproduce.
  • Deleting saves or reinstalling immediately. Preserve saves and error information first; perform destructive steps only when current official instructions call for them.
  • Relying on a generic “fix” from another game. A launch option, driver version, overlay setting, or remapping tool may be irrelevant or unsupported for this title.

A release-day checklist

  1. Install only the final build from the platform’s official store.
  2. Read the final requirements and controller-support notes, not the closed-test table above.
  3. Update the platform through its normal official process and note the game version.
  4. Test one offline activity, then one online activity if available, before changing settings.
  5. Test the controller in the platform interface and in the game, recording any difference.
  6. If a problem appears, capture the exact stage, error, build, hardware, connection type, and reproducible steps.
  7. Check current SEGA and platform support notices for an issue-specific instruction.
  8. Report the problem with the collected evidence and avoid presenting a temporary workaround as a confirmed fix.

What remains unknown

Until the retail launch, the following cannot be answered reliably: final minimum and recommended PC hardware, supported Windows versions, exact storage footprint, controller models and input APIs, whether any test-only bugs remain, and which troubleshooting steps SEGA will officially support. Steam’s unspecified fields and the test-build warning are explicit signs not to fill those gaps with guesses.

For now, the most accurate answer to a reported World Tour crash, lag spike, or controller failure is to identify the build and platform first, preserve reproducible evidence, and wait for retail-specific guidance. That approach avoids misdiagnosing a development-test issue and gives support the information needed to issue a real fix after release.
