2. Establish whether the failure is the game or the setup

- Open Desktop Layout and configure the controller to operate as PC controls.
- Return to the RPG.
- Click the game window so it is the active, focused window.
- Test movement and menu navigation before opening another window.
Desktop Layout changes where Steam sends controller events; it does not restore or repair a save. Missing slot versus unreadable slot
