Start by checking Epic Games’ server status and updating the launcher, then follow the steps for your specific error or symptom. A failed download, a directory-creation error, a slow connection, and a game stuck on “Verifying” need different fixes. Save launcher reinstallation for last: Epic warns that it removes games installed through the launcher.
Before troubleshooting, check Epic’s service and your launcher
- Check the Epic Games Server Status page. If an outage or system-wide failure affects the launcher, local changes may not help until service recovers. Epic Games Store Support says, “If the Epic Games Launcher is affected by an outage or system-wide failure, your issue may be fixed when the outage is resolved.”
- Make sure the launcher is up to date and your computer meets Epic’s listed system requirements.
- Note the exact error code or message. Use the matching section below rather than repeating a generic repair.
Download fails with II-E1003
Epic defines II-E1003 as the launcher’s inability to download necessary game files for installation. Work through Epic’s II-E1003 guidance in order:

- Update the Epic Games Launcher.
- Verify the game files using the steps below.
- Clear the launcher’s webcache.
- Change your DNS settings.
- Consider reinstalling the launcher only after the earlier steps fail. Epic warns that this removes games installed through the launcher, so be prepared to reinstall those games afterward.
Install or update fails with IS-0003
IS-0003 is associated with the launcher failing to create a directory during a game installation or update. Epic’s IS-0003 instructions recommend these steps:
- Clear the launcher webcache using the instructions below.
- Restart your computer.
- Run Epic Games Launcher as an administrator, then try the install or update again.
Clear the Epic Games Launcher webcache
Cache files are separate from game files. Clearing the launcher webcache can address launcher display or working issues; it does not perform the same repair as verifying a game.

Windows
- Exit Epic Games Launcher completely: right-click its system-tray icon and choose Exit.
- Press Windows+R, enter
%localappdata%, and press Enter. - Open
EpicGamesLauncherSaved. - Delete the
webcachefolder and, if present, thewebcache_4147andwebcache_4430folders. - Relaunch the launcher. It will rebuild its cache.
Mac
- Quit Epic Games Launcher.
- In Finder, open
~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher. - Remove the
webcachefolder and empty Trash. - Relaunch the launcher.

Verify a game’s files
Use Verify when a game’s local files may be damaged or corrupted, including when addressing II-E1003 or an unexpectedly large download estimate.

- Open Library in Epic Games Launcher.
- Find the game and open its three-dot menu.
- Choose Manage, then select Verify.
- Wait for validation to finish before trying again.
Epic says Verify checks game files and replaces files that differ from the expected versions. It does not affect saved data. See Epic’s game-file verification instructions.

Downloads are unusually slow
Check the service status first, then work through the connection-specific checks in Epic’s slow-download guidance:

- Turn off the launcher’s download-speed limit.
- If practical, connect the computer to the router with Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi. This is a useful diagnostic, not a guaranteed fix. If you can connect by cable but do not have one, an Ethernet cable is needed only to try this test.
- Try another internet connection if one is available. If downloads improve, investigate the original network or its settings.
- Clear the device cache, flush DNS or switch to a public DNS, and check that required Epic domains are allowlisted.
- Disable proxy servers while testing the download.
Epic Games Launcher setup fails on Windows
These steps address installing the launcher itself, not a game stuck inside the launcher. Epic’s Windows installer guidance is written for Windows 10; labels and steps may differ on other Windows versions.
- Temporarily close background applications that may interfere with setup.
- Confirm you have read/write permission for the selected installation path.
- Try running the downloaded MSI from an administrator Command Prompt with
msiexec /ifollowed by the MSI file’s path. - If the installer still fails, try installing the launcher from the Microsoft Store or update Windows.
Epic describes temporarily disabling antivirus only for a known interference case. Do not leave security software disabled: turn it back on after installing.

A game stays on “Verifying” or “Installing”
This is different from a failure to install the launcher. If a game remains indefinitely on “Verifying” or “Installing,” check that the drive has enough free space. Decompressing game files can require more space than the download size shown. Epic includes this check in its installer troubleshooting guidance.

The download estimate looks much larger than expected
A communications error can make displayed file sizes appear larger than expected. Verify the game files, then clear the launcher webcache if needed. Epic lists these remedies in its guidance on oversized download estimates.

Keep launch problems separate from download and install errors
If the game has downloaded and installed but will not start, that is a launch problem rather than a download or installer error. Epic’s general launcher troubleshooting and LS-0013 guidance address launch issues, with steps that may include operating-system updates, graphics drivers, background applications, firewall exceptions, DNS flushing, or reinstalling. Use those steps when the symptom is a game that will not launch, not as a substitute for the error-specific download and install fixes above.
