Then put the speaker into pairing mode and select it in your device’s Bluetooth settings. Button combinations and input priorities differ by PartyBox model, so use the manual for your exact model before disconnecting devices or resetting the speaker.
Start with the basics
Turn on the PartyBox and confirm it has power. Raise the speaker’s volume, check the phone or other source device’s volume and mute setting, and make sure something is actually playing. JBL lists power, volume, and an active source among the first checks for no sound on the PartyBox 100 and PartyBox On-The-Go Essential.

- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on the phone, tablet, or computer.
- Check that the PartyBox is not muted and its volume is audible.
- Start playback from the source device and confirm media audio is routed to the PartyBox.
If the PartyBox will not appear or pair
Enter pairing mode on the speaker
Use the Bluetooth control to put the PartyBox into pairing mode, then open Bluetooth settings on the source device and select the speaker name shown there. The control behavior and displayed name vary by model. For example, the PartyBox 310 appears as “JBL PARTYBOX 310,” while the Encore appears as “JBL PartyBox Encore.” Follow the instructions in the JBL support and manuals for your exact model rather than borrowing a button sequence from another PartyBox.

A phone or tablet that is already connected may prevent a new source from taking over. Disconnect the existing device, or use the Bluetooth control specified in your model’s manual to disconnect it and pair the new source. The PartyBox 100 and On-The-Go Essential manuals give different hold instructions, so there is no safe universal hold duration.

If it paired before but will not reconnect
Pairing saves the relationship between devices, but the source still has to connect to the speaker for audio to play. Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings and select the PartyBox manually if it does not reconnect automatically. JBL advises against resetting the speaker every time you want to connect; see its Bluetooth pairing and connecting guidance for general pairing advice.
If Bluetooth audio is weak or keeps cutting out
Move the source device closer to the PartyBox and clear obstacles between them. JBL notes that Bluetooth performance can vary with distance and the operating environment, and recommends moving closer or removing obstacles when reception is poor. If the signal improves nearby, distance or obstruction was likely contributing to the interruption.

If the PartyBox connects but plays no sound
Verify the audio output and playback
On the phone, tablet, or computer, check that media audio is routed to the PartyBox rather than the device’s built-in speaker or another Bluetooth output. Make sure neither device is muted and that playback has started. A Bluetooth connection alone does not guarantee that the source is sending media audio to the speaker.

Check whether another input has priority
Some PartyBox models play only one input at a time. The Encore and On-The-Go Essential manuals document this priority order: USB, then Bluetooth, then AUX. If a higher-priority source is active, stop or disconnect it before expecting sound from Bluetooth. Check your own model’s manual because this source behavior is not established for every PartyBox.

Reset only as a last resort
A factory reset can erase saved pairings and other settings, and its controls vary by model. Try the checks above first. If they do not help, look up the reset procedure in the manual for your exact PartyBox model and be prepared to pair your source devices again. JBL’s general guidance specifically cautions against resetting just to reconnect.

Model details that can help
- PartyBox 310: JBL says it can store up to eight paired devices; when a ninth is paired, it replaces the first. The manual also notes that distance and environment can affect Bluetooth performance.
- PartyBox Encore: Its manual says it can remember up to eight devices and documents USB-before-Bluetooth-before-AUX input priority.
- PartyBox 100: Its troubleshooting section recommends checking Bluetooth enablement and an existing connection, then moving the source closer or removing obstacles if reception is poor.
- PartyBox On-The-Go Essential: Its manual covers battery state, active source, mute, reception, and an already-connected device; its Bluetooth and reset controls are model-specific.
These details apply to the named models, not to every speaker in the PartyBox range. JBL’s manuals are the authority for your model’s pairing, input, and reset behavior.
