Beta software can cause battery, thermal, or app-stability problems, and the right next step depends on whether the problem is already documented, affects one app, or affects the phone broadly. There is no single fix that applies to every beta participant.
First, identify your beta build and match it to its release notes
Android beta issues can be specific to a release. Android’s official Android 16 notes warn that a release might have stability, battery, or performance issues, and list fixes for particular drain and crash problems. Later beta notes may also document a fix for an earlier issue.

- Identify the beta branch and build installed on your device. Use the device’s software information to note the version and build identifier; names such as Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5 refer to a particular release, not every Android beta.
- Open the official release notes for that same branch and build. Check both the listed issues and fixes, and look at later beta notes for a fix that may have arrived after your installed build.
- Classify the scope. Note whether one app is failing while the rest of the phone behaves normally, or whether the symptoms affect the system broadly—for example, unusual drain, thermal problems, or unexpected restarts.
Release notes provide clues, not a diagnosis of an individual device. A symptom listed for a beta is evidence that the build can have that defect; it does not prove that defect is causing your particular problem.
If the battery drains unusually fast
Check whether the release notes for your build mention idle drain, background-process drain, or high CPU use. Android 16 beta notes documented fixes for excessive drain while idle, high CPU load associated with drain, and drain linked to apps running in the background. Android 16 QPR3 notes also describe an overnight-drain issue addressed by optimizing background-process power consumption. These are examples of build-specific software causes, not proof that every battery problem comes from the beta.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Android’s developer documentation describes one possible mechanism: a stuck partial wake lock can keep an app’s CPU activity running while the display is off, preventing the device from entering lower-power states. That explanation is aimed at app developers; it is not a universal consumer diagnostic or a fix to apply to every draining phone.
If the phone overheats or unexpectedly restarts
Look for thermal-management issues in the notes for your exact release. Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5 notes list a fixed issue in which devices overheated and unexpectedly rebooted during use. This confirms that a beta build can have a thermal defect, but it does not establish that every warm device has the same cause or give a general temperature threshold for safety.

If the exact release notes do not identify your symptom, use the beta program’s official support guidance for your device and build. The available official material here does not establish device-specific recovery steps or a general procedure for an overheating device, so do not assume that a workaround for another model or beta branch is appropriate.

Check the release notes before assuming an app needs reinstalling or the phone needs repair. Android 17 QPR1 notes describe an issue causing some apps to crash on startup. Android 16 notes record crashes in particular apps and system components, while Android 16 QPR3 notes describe a startup crash fixed by addressing a system compatibility problem.

Android defines a crash as an unexpected app exit caused by an unhandled exception or signal. A crash can come from a background component even if you were not actively using the app at the time. That means a visible crash—or one reported by the system—does not by itself show whether the cause is the app or the beta build.
- If only one non-Google app is affected and the rest of the phone is stable, check that app’s developer support route and report the issue there.
- If the failing app is a Google app, or the problem appears to involve Android, the device, or multiple system components, use the Android beta Issue Tracker route described in the release guidance.
- Before filing a report, search the known issues and existing reports for the same build and symptom to avoid creating a duplicate.
Choose the support route that matches the problem
Android 16 beta guidance separates app problems from device and system problems. Use this distinction when the release notes do not already resolve the question:

| What is affected | Where to report it | Before reporting |
|---|---|---|
| Android device, system behavior, or a Google app | Android Issue Tracker, following the beta release guidance | Check the known issues and existing reports for your build. |

What not to assume
- A documented issue on one beta build does not establish the cause on another build or device.
- A warm phone alone does not identify a beta defect; the cited release notes do not set a universal safety threshold.
- There is no supported one-size-fits-all fix in the cited guidance for drain, overheating, or crashes.
- The cited sources do not establish how to leave a beta, whether doing so would erase data in your circumstances, or device-specific recovery instructions. Consult the current official guidance for your exact device and beta program before taking those steps.
