At the manufacturers’ listed prices, the 256GB Galaxy S26 and iPhone 17 are close enough that there is no universal value winner: your actual checkout price, storage needs, preferred platform and the features you will use matter more than the headline price alone.
How much do the Galaxy S26 and iPhone 17 cost?
Samsung’s US store lists the unlocked 256GB Galaxy S26 at $899.99 and its 512GB version at $1,099.99. Apple displays the iPhone 17 “From $899” and lists a 256GB “Connect on your own later” option at $929. These are manufacturer-listed prices, not guaranteed checkout totals; availability, promotions and purchase terms can change.

| iPhone 17, 256GB | $929 | “Connect on your own later”; Apple listing |

For the fairest comparison, check unlocked prices at the same storage capacity and under the same purchase conditions. Keep carrier discounts and trade-in credits separate: eligibility and terms can change the amount you pay, and a displayed starting price is not necessarily your transaction price. Samsung also lists the S26+ at $1,099.99 and the S26 FE at $799.99; those are different models, not alternative prices for the base S26. See Samsung’s Galaxy S26 US listing and Apple’s iPhone 17 store page for current configurations and offers.
What features are established in this comparison?
iPhone 17: documented display and camera capabilities
Apple specifies a 6.3-inch OLED display with ProMotion adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz, an A19 chip and a 48MP Dual Fusion rear camera system: a 48MP main camera and a 48MP ultra-wide camera, with 2x optical-quality telephoto from the main camera. Apple also lists MagSafe wireless charging up to 25W and Qi2 wireless charging up to 25W. These are manufacturer specifications, not results from comparative testing. Details are on Apple’s iPhone 17 technical specifications.

Galaxy S26: avoid assuming a head-to-head verdict
Samsung’s US purchase page confirms the unlocked 256GB S26 configuration and its listed price. Samsung’s launch announcement identifies the S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra and says general availability began March 11, 2026. The available product information does not establish a complete technical comparison here, so it cannot support claims that the S26 is faster, lasts longer, zooms farther or takes better photos than the iPhone 17. See Samsung’s S26 launch announcement.
Which phone is better value for your needs?
Choose by the price you will actually pay
Compare the final price for the capacity you need, including any carrier or trade-in conditions you can genuinely meet. The listed 256GB configurations are close in price, but the figures are not perfectly like-for-like purchase offers: Samsung’s cited S26 price is for an unlocked model, while Apple’s $929 256GB option is labelled “Connect on your own later.” Check the live terms before deciding.

Choose the platform that fits your daily use
Your existing apps, services, devices and sharing habits are practical value considerations. If switching would disrupt how you use your other devices or services, that cost may matter more to you than a small difference in listed price. This is a personal fit decision, not a measured advantage for either phone.
Pay for features you expect to use
Apple’s published 120Hz display and dual 48MP rear-camera specifications may be attractive if those capabilities matter to you. They do not establish which phone produces better photos or offers the better display in practice. A reliable camera verdict requires comparable testing of both models.

Count any charging setup you still need
Apple says the iPhone 17 box includes a USB-C charging cable but no power adapter. Samsung’s listing says the Galaxy S26 does not include a charger. If you need a wall adapter, include its cost in your setup budget and verify what is included with the exact configuration you buy. Apple’s package information is on its iPhone 17 specifications page; Samsung’s inclusion note is on its US purchase listing.

The specifications and prices above do not settle several factors that can affect ownership value. The cited information does not provide comparable independent evidence for battery life, sustained performance, camera quality, repair costs, resale value or long-term software-support commitments. If any of those will decide your purchase, seek current evidence that tests or compares both models on the same basis rather than inferring a winner from a spec sheet.
