If an app looks stretched, cramped, or arranged incorrectly on your iPad mini, first switch it to full screen and check whether the problem remains. A smaller or resized window changes the space the app has available. If the layout is still broken in full screen, check for an app update and send the developer details about your app, iPad mini, iPadOS version, orientation, and a screenshot.
1. Return the app to full screen
An app in a resized or windowed state has less space to work with, which can change how its interface appears. Apple’s iPad multitasking guide explains how to resize and move windows and return them to full screen. Try full screen before deciding the app itself is at fault.

If you use Windowed Apps in iPadOS 26, Apple also documents resizing a window by dragging a corner or its lower-right handle in its iPadOS 26 multitasking guide. Use the window controls to switch back to full screen, then check the app again.

Compare portrait and landscape if the app is usable enough to do so. Note whether the layout looks wrong only in a smaller window, only in one orientation, or in full screen in both orientations. A change in arrangement as the available width or height changes can be normal; overlapping, clipped, or visibly distorted controls that persist in full screen are more suggestive of an app-specific layout problem.

Apple’s developer guidance describes layout as something that should respond to the space available. Its Human Interface Guidelines on layout explain that horizontal and vertical size classes represent narrower or wider, shorter or taller space. UIKit also provides apps with environment traits such as size class and display scale, and Apple says apps should adjust their layout as those traits change in its UITraitCollection documentation. How an individual app responds is implemented by that app; these general guidelines cannot establish that a particular app is defective.
3. Update the app, then report a persistent layout defect
Check the App Store for an update to the affected app. If the issue remains, contact its developer through the support route listed for that app. Include information that helps distinguish an app bug from a window or device-state issue:

- The app’s name and version, if available.
- Your iPad mini generation and iPadOS version.
- Whether the app was full screen or in a resized window.
- Whether the issue occurs in portrait, landscape, or both.
- A screenshot showing the problem.
Those details are especially useful because the problem may depend on the app and the available screen space, and there is no single setting that repairs every app’s layout.

4. Use Accessibility Zoom only if content is too small to read
Accessibility Zoom magnifies screen content; it does not rearrange an app’s controls or fix a malformed layout. If the issue is readability rather than a broken arrangement, open Settings > Accessibility > Zoom. Apple describes Full Screen Zoom, Window Zoom, and Pinned Zoom in its guide to Zoom on iPad.

What to check before troubleshooting further
- Window size: Test the app in full screen as well as in any resized window.
- Orientation: Check whether the defect appears in portrait, landscape, or both.
- App adaptation: If controls remain clipped, overlap, or look distorted in full screen, check for an update and report the details to the developer.
- Magnification: Use Zoom for visibility, not as a layout repair.
