Then check software, matching device and Siri languages, model downloads, regional availability, and Siri settings. Some apparent failures are compatibility or availability limits—not problems a reset can solve.
1. Check whether your device and feature are supported
Apple Intelligence compatibility depends on the device, operating-system generation, and feature. Start with the missing feature and the exact device model, then compare them with Apple’s current availability and compatibility information. Apple’s current overview covers its iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 generation, as well as some features supported by the preceding generation. A device that supports Apple Intelligence does not necessarily support every feature listed for every platform or OS generation.
For the current generation, Apple lists iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPad mini (A17 Pro), and iPad and Mac models with M1 or later. Apple Vision Pro and newer specified Apple Watch models paired with a supported iPhone are also included; some Watch features require that paired iPhone. Check Apple’s feature-by-platform list rather than assuming that compatibility with one feature means compatibility with all of them.
If your device is not eligible, changing settings or freeing storage will not make it compatible. Consider a supported device only if hardware is the reason the feature is unavailable.

2. Update your software and turn on Apple Intelligence
Install the latest software version available for your device. Apple says its next-generation features become available on eligible devices after updating to the relevant 27.0 releases. On earlier OS versions, the feature set and settings labels may differ.
Look in Settings for Apple Intelligence & Siri or the Apple Intelligence control shown by your installed OS, and make sure Apple Intelligence is enabled. Follow the labels on your device; do not rely on a menu path from a different OS generation.

3. Make the device and Siri languages match
Apple requires the device language and Siri language to be set to the same supported language. If you changed Siri’s language recently, Apple Intelligence may remain unavailable while that language downloads or until the device and Siri language match.
- Check the language selected for the device and the language selected for Siri.
- Set both to the same language supported for the feature you want to use.
- If you just changed Siri’s language, allow its download to finish before testing Apple Intelligence again.
Language support can vary by feature and platform. Confirm the particular feature’s availability in Apple’s availability information.

4. Check storage and let model downloads finish
Apple’s current requirements list up to 8 GB or up to 14 GB of device storage for supported iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro models, depending on device class, and up to 1.5 GB on Apple Watch. These are maximum requirements by class, not a single amount that applies to every device. Check Apple’s current requirements for your model and make enough space available.
On-device models begin downloading after the software update. Apple says download time varies, so there is no universal wait time. For the fastest model download, Apple Support recommends keeping the device connected to Wi-Fi and power. Check the device’s Apple Intelligence settings for download status and give an in-progress download time to complete.

5. Check regional and platform availability
Apple says availability varies by platform, language, and region. A feature may be available on one supported device but not another, or may be unavailable for your language or region. Mainland China has specific restrictions that can depend on where the device was purchased and the country or region of the Apple Account; consult Apple’s current availability details for your circumstances.
Do not assume that all Apple Intelligence features are unavailable in the European Union. Apple’s current overview lists next-generation cross-app features on supported platforms there, while Siri AI beta has separate eligibility rules. Apple’s September 2026 support article says Siri AI beta is currently available in English, requires matching language settings, and has platform and Apple Account region restrictions in the EU. 6. If Siri is not responding, reset its listening setup
If the problem is that Siri does not hear or respond to you, check Siri itself rather than treating it as proof that all Apple Intelligence features are broken. Apple’s instructions are in If Siri isn’t working on your iPhone or iPad.
- Open Settings and select Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri, depending on your OS.
- Make sure Siri or Hey Siri activation is turned on.
- If it is already on, turn it off, turn it back on, and follow the prompts to set up voice recognition again.
- Try typing to Siri or activating Siri with a button. If those methods work but voice activation does not, the issue is more likely with listening or voice setup.
- If Siri responds but does not speak, review the Siri Responses setting.
Check VPN only if Siri settings are missing
If Siri does not appear in Settings after the device restarts, Apple advises checking VPN settings: “Some VPN profiles might not allow use of Siri.” This is a targeted check for missing Siri settings, not evidence that VPNs generally disable all Apple Intelligence features.
7. Consider server-side usage limits
Some features use server-side models and have daily usage limits. Apple says limits can vary with the feature, request complexity, system demand, and applicable policies. If an otherwise available feature stops responding after repeated use, a usage limit may be the explanation; it does not necessarily mean your device has lost compatibility.
8. When to contact Apple Support
If your device and feature are eligible, your software is current, the language settings match, downloads have completed, regional rules allow the feature, and Siri is set up correctly, contact Apple Support for help with the remaining issue. Apple does not provide a universal reset procedure for Apple Intelligence or a fixed model-download duration, so avoid repeated resets based on an assumed one-size-fits-all fix.
