If your Echo Show 5 won’t connect to Wi‑Fi, first check whether another device can use the same network. If it can, troubleshoot the Echo’s Wi‑Fi setting, password, signal, and network band before restarting or resetting it. If other devices also fail, focus on the router or internet connection.
1. Find out whether the problem is the Echo or your network
Try connecting a phone, laptop, or another device to the same Wi‑Fi network. If it also cannot connect or get online, the issue is likely with the home network or internet service rather than the Echo Show 5. Amazon recommends restarting the modem and router; if multiple devices still have connectivity trouble, contact your internet service provider. Amazon’s Wi‑Fi troubleshooting guidance covers these steps.

If the other device works, continue with the Echo-specific checks below. Note whether the Echo is being set up for the first time or stopped connecting after it had worked, and whether your Wi‑Fi password changed recently; those details help narrow down the likely cause.

2. Check the Echo’s Wi‑Fi setting and network
On the Echo Show 5, open Settings, then select Device Options and Network. You can say, “Go to Settings,” or open Settings on the screen. For original Alexa, swipe down from the top; for Alexa+, select Menu, then Settings. Confirm Wi‑Fi is on and select your network. Amazon notes that Echo Show 5 menu items can vary, so follow the labels displayed on your device. Amazon’s instructions for changing Wi‑Fi settings include the screen-device route.

- Your network appears: Select it and carefully re-enter the password. If you recently changed the password, update the saved Wi‑Fi settings on the Echo.
- Your network is missing: Refresh the network list or check the advanced Wi‑Fi options. Make sure Wi‑Fi is on and move the Echo closer to the router before trying again.
3. Improve signal and test the other Wi‑Fi band
Amazon recommends keeping the Echo within 30 feet (10 meters) of the wireless router and away from potential sources of interference such as microwaves, baby monitors, and other electronics. Move it closer to the router and retry the connection. Amazon’s Wi‑Fi troubleshooting guidance provides the distance and interference checks.
Echo devices support common dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi‑Fi networks using 802.11a/b/g/n, but cannot connect to ad-hoc or peer-to-peer networks. If your router shows separate network names for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, try selecting the other band. You can also temporarily disconnect some devices to see whether network congestion is contributing to the problem. Amazon’s Wi‑Fi setup guidance covers supported network types and band troubleshooting.

4. Restart the Echo or router as appropriate
Restart the Echo Show 5
If the problem occurs during setup, unplug the Echo, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. Then try connecting again. Amazon’s setup troubleshooting steps include this restart.
Restart the modem and router
If several devices have lost connectivity, unplug the modem and router for several minutes. Reconnect the modem first and wait for internet service to return; then reconnect the router. Retry the Echo connection once the network is back online. If other devices remain offline, contact your internet provider.

5. Use a phone hotspot to troubleshoot setup
If you are setting up the Echo Show 5 and it still will not connect, try using a phone as a Wi‑Fi hotspot. Amazon lists a phone hotspot as a setup troubleshooting option. If the Echo connects to the hotspot, that points toward a problem with the home router or its settings; if it still cannot connect, the issue may be with the Echo’s setup path. This is a diagnostic inference, not a guarantee of what is faulty. Amazon’s setup guidance describes the hotspot test.

A factory reset erases the Echo’s settings and returns it to setup, so leave it until after the simpler checks and restart. Amazon advises restarting before a full reset: “Before a full device reset, try restarting your device first to resolve most common issues.” Amazon’s reset guidance documents both options.
