If your YouTube live stream ends when a rain video reaches its last frame, enable looping on the video source in your encoder. In OBS, open the source’s properties and turn on Loop. YouTube’s auto-stop setting controls when a broadcast stops after the encoder stops sending video; it does not replay a finished file.
Why the stream stops when the rain video ends
Your encoder plays the local video file and sends its output to YouTube. When playback reaches the end, the source may stop producing the intended picture unless it is set to repeat. The fix is at the source in the encoder—not in YouTube’s broadcast auto-stop control.

The steps below use OBS as a documented example. The exact controls can differ in other encoder software.
Loop one rain video in OBS
- Find the source. In OBS, check the Sources list in the scene you are streaming. Select the rain clip. If it is a Media Source, continue with the next step.
- Open its properties. Right-click the Media Source and choose Properties.
- Enable looping. Turn on Loop, then click OK. OBS describes this setting as specifying whether the file plays again after playback completes; it is off by default. OBS Media Sources documentation.
- Check the boundary before going live. Watch the OBS preview until the file ends and confirm playback starts again. OBS Media Source supports local video files such as MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM.
Loop a playlist of rain videos
If you want several clips to play in sequence, OBS has a VLC Video source for playlists. VLC must be installed for this source type to be available.

- Add or select a VLC Video source in the scene.
- Open its properties and add the video files to the playlist in the desired order.
- Make sure Loop Playlist is enabled if the playlist should start over after its last item. OBS documents this property as on by default for VLC Video; that default is different from the Media Source Loop setting.
- Watch the preview through the final playlist item and verify that the first item begins again.

If OBS loops but YouTube still ends
If the OBS preview repeats but the YouTube broadcast ends or stops receiving video, the file loop is working; investigate the connection between OBS and YouTube instead.

- Check OBS’s streaming state. Confirm OBS is still streaming rather than showing that the stream has stopped.
- Inspect YouTube Live Control Room. Check the stream’s status and stream-health information for connection or configuration issues. YouTube defines an active stream as one receiving data and exposes health and configuration status through its Live Streaming API.
- Verify the stream key and destination. A stream key connects the encoder feed to YouTube. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Use the key configured for the intended broadcast, and do not share it publicly. YouTube’s enableAutoStop setting governs broadcast lifecycle: its API documentation says a broadcast may stop automatically around one minute after the channel owner stops sending video to the bound stream. It does not make a local video source loop. If OBS continues sending a valid repeating feed, auto-stop is not what replays—or prevents replay of—the file. YouTube LiveBroadcasts API.

Use video you have permission to stream
Looping changes playback behavior; it does not change the rights attached to a recording or its music. Use your own rain video or content you are authorized to stream, and check that any included audio is also cleared for your use.
