Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →A missing PS Plus trial is usually an entitlement or catalog problem; a trial that appears but will not start is usually a license, PlayStation Network, software, queue, or storage problem. Sign in with the Premium subscriber, confirm that the game is still offered in your region, then restore licenses and retry the download. A Premium trial cannot be shared as early access through Console Sharing and Offline Play.

Identify which problem you have
The first screen you can reach determines the likely cause. Do not treat every failure as a storage issue: adding space cannot create an entitlement that the account does not have.
| What you see | Most likely area | First action |
|---|---|---|
| The trial is absent from the catalog | Account plan, region, catalog rotation, or sharing | Check the Premium account and whether the title is currently listed |
| The game is visible but has a lock or asks you to subscribe | License or subscription entitlement | Confirm the subscription is active, then restore licenses |
| The trial is visible and starts downloading, then pauses or fails | PlayStation Network, system software, queue, or storage | Check service status and retry the queue |
| The console reports insufficient space | Console storage | Free space before attempting another download |
A trial that never appears and a trial that is stuck at a percentage may share a symptom, but they need different fixes. Work through the entitlement checks before repeatedly deleting downloads.

Confirm the Premium entitlement and catalog listing
Use the account that owns Premium
On the PS5, sign in to the PlayStation Network account that purchased or activated the Premium subscription. Open the PlayStation Plus games and trials catalog while using that account. The trial is granted to an account, not simply to the console on which you happen to be browsing.
If another family member normally pays for the subscription, switch to that subscriber’s profile and search again. A title missing on one profile but present on the subscriber’s profile is an account-entitlement difference, not a failed download.
Verify the tier and subscription state
Game Trials are a Premium feature, or a Deluxe feature in markets where that tier name is used. A lower PlayStation Plus tier does not provide the Premium trial benefit. Check the account’s current plan and make sure it has not expired, been cancelled at the end of its term, or failed to renew.
PlayStation Support specifically advises checking that a subscription is active when a game included with PlayStation Plus will not download. A console can retain a tile or a previous download entry after the entitlement has changed, so the presence of an icon is not proof that the account still qualifies.
Check the title’s current availability
Trial and catalog selections change. Search the catalog from the subscriber’s account and region rather than relying on an old bookmark, a friend’s console, or a past promotion. If the title is no longer listed for that plan and region, there is no local download repair that will restore it. The practical result is different from a network failure: the account is working, but the offer is no longer available.
Region matters because PlayStation catalogs and plan names can differ by market. Use the country or region associated with the account when judging whether a listing should exist. Do not create a second account in another region to bypass a missing trial; that can produce a separate store entitlement and will not transfer the original account’s access.
Rule out Console Sharing and Offline Play
Sharing a PS5 console can make some PlayStation Plus benefits available to other local users, but PlayStation’s sharing guidance lists early access to time-limited game trials among the benefits that cannot be shared through Console Sharing and Offline Play.

Test the listing while signed in as the Premium owner before changing console-sharing settings. If the owner can access the trial and the other profile cannot, the behavior is an entitlement rule rather than a broken installation.
Do not purchase the game again merely because a shared profile shows a lock. First establish which account owns Premium and which account is being used for the trial. This single check prevents a download cycle that cannot succeed under the account’s permissions.
Check account, network, and PS5 software basics
Confirm the account is online and the subscription is recognized
Remain signed in to PlayStation Network and reopen the PlayStation Plus listing. If the console has just resumed from rest mode, signing out and back in can refresh the account session without deleting any games. Recheck the plan status on the subscriber profile rather than assuming a successful sign-in means the subscription is active.
Look for a PlayStation Network outage
Check PlayStation’s official service-status page before repeated retries. An outage affecting account management, the PlayStation Store, or game services can hide a listing, prevent a license check, or leave a download waiting. During an incident, pause troubleshooting after recording the symptom and try again when the affected service is restored.

A service incident is more plausible when several online functions fail at once or when the same account works on another occasion but not during the outage window. A single locked title after services are normal points back to entitlement or licenses.
Install the latest PS5 system software
Use the PS5’s system-software update option and complete any pending update before testing the trial again. Download and store behavior can change with system software, and support troubleshooting generally assumes the console is current. Restart the PS5 after an update, then open the catalog from the Premium account and test the listing again.
Restore licenses on PS5
Restoring licenses makes the console recheck digital-game permissions associated with the signed-in account. It is the appropriate next step when the title is listed but locked, when a trial previously worked and suddenly disappeared, or when a subscription is active but the console does not recognize it.
- Sign in to the PlayStation Network account with Premium.
- Open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts.
- Choose Other.
- Select Restore Licenses and confirm.
- When the process finishes, return to the PlayStation Plus games or trials catalog and open the title again.
License restoration does not extend the trial, change the catalog, or grant access to a different account. It refreshes the console’s license records. If the game remains absent after the restore, return to the entitlement and regional-availability checks instead of repeating the operation indefinitely.

Repair a trial that is stuck in the download queue
Pause and resume the individual download
When the trial tile is available and the download is waiting, open the PS5 control centre and choose Downloads/Uploads. Select the trial, choose Pause, wait briefly, and choose Resume. PlayStation Support recommends this pause-and-resume sequence to restart a stalled download.
Watch whether the item returns to active progress or produces an error. A queue that resumes after this step was likely a transient transfer problem; a queue that immediately stops again needs the next branch.
Cancel the failed item and download it again
If pausing and resuming does not help, open Downloads/Uploads again, select the trial, and choose Cancel and Delete. This removes the failed item from the download list. It does not cancel Premium and does not remove the account’s entitlement.
After deletion, open Game Library, find the title under the account that has Premium, and start the download again. Begin with the console connected to a stable network and avoid launching several large downloads simultaneously while testing. If the new attempt fails with the same code, record the code rather than performing endless queue resets.

Storage is relevant when the PS5 explicitly says there is not enough free space or the download cannot reserve the required space. In that case, remove or move games and media you no longer need, then retry from Game Library. Keep enough free space for the complete installation and any space the console needs while unpacking the download.
If you need more capacity, a PS5-compatible M.2 NVMe SSD with a heatsink is an option. Compatibility is not universal: check the PS5 requirements for supported interface, capacity range, physical dimensions, and heatsink size before buying or installing a drive. An incompatible module can fail to fit or be rejected by the console.
Extra storage cannot repair a missing Premium entitlement, a regional catalog change, a license error, or a PlayStation Network outage. Do not buy a drive unless the console’s free-space warning or storage screen identifies capacity as the actual failure.
Use the symptom to choose the next test
When the catalog tile is missing
- Switch to the account that owns Premium.
- Confirm the plan is Premium, or Deluxe where that is the local tier name, and that the subscription is active.
- Search the current PlayStation Plus catalog for the title in the account’s region.
- Check whether the title has left the catalog or whether the trial offer has ended.
- If another profile is being used, test the subscriber profile because time-limited trial early access is not shareable.
If all five checks are correct and the tile is still absent, capture the account, region, title, and date for support. A missing listing is not fixed by clearing console storage.
Recommended Free Tools
When the tile is present but locked
- Confirm that the Premium subscription is active on the signed-in account.
- Restore licenses using Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- Reopen the title from the catalog.
- If the lock remains, check PlayStation Network status and install any pending system-software update.
Do not infer that the trial is shareable because another game from the subscriber’s library works on the same PS5. The trial’s early-access restriction is separate.
When the download is visible but will not move
- Open the control centre and select Downloads/Uploads.
- Pause the trial and resume it.
- If it stops again, choose Cancel and Delete.
- Find the game in Game Library and start a clean download.
- Check free space if the console displays a capacity warning.
- If the retry fails without a storage warning, check service status, system software, and the error code.
Keep a precise record before contacting PlayStation Support
Persistent failures are easier to diagnose when support receives reproducible details instead of “it will not download.” Write down the exact error code and message, the date and time with your time zone, the account used, the account’s plan, the console region, and whether the title was missing, locked, or stalled in the queue.
Also record the steps that led to the failure: catalog search, license restoration, pause and resume, cancellation, and the clean download attempt. Note whether other PlayStation Store downloads work and whether the PlayStation service-status page showed an incident. Take a screenshot or short video of the listing, lock, queue state, or error code without exposing your password or payment details.
Give support the title’s exact name and edition as displayed on the PS5. If the trial works on the Premium owner’s profile but not on a shared profile, say so; that distinction points to the sharing rule rather than a console download defect.
What not to do
- Do not repeatedly restore licenses when the title has been removed from the catalog or is unavailable in your region.
- Do not assume another user’s Premium subscription grants time-limited trial early access.
- Do not buy storage until the PS5 identifies insufficient space as the cause.
- Do not delete unrelated games or initialize the PS5 to fix an account entitlement problem.
- Do not keep retrying during a confirmed PlayStation Network outage; save the error details and test after service recovery.
- Do not omit the exact code, account, time, and reproduction steps when escalating.
The reliable order is entitlement, sharing, service and software, license restoration, queue recovery, and storage only if indicated. That order separates a trial the account cannot claim from a trial the console can claim but cannot download.
