If a PlayStation Plus game won’t download or start, first check that you’re using the account with access and that the game is still eligible under your active membership. Then troubleshoot the symptom: retry a stuck download, restore licenses for a locked game, or follow the launch steps for your PS5 or PS4. These checks help distinguish an account or catalog issue from a console or download problem.
Start with the account and game entitlement
Before deleting a game or changing console settings, confirm that the signed-in account is the one that obtained the PlayStation Plus benefit and that its membership is active. For a Game Catalog title, check that it is still listed and that your membership plan includes access. A game’s previous appearance in the catalog does not guarantee it is available now. See PlayStation’s Game Catalog access guide.

If the game belongs to another account, check the applicable sharing setting: Console Sharing and Offline Play on PS5, or primary-console activation on PS4. If the entitlement appears correct but the game is locked or missing, restore licenses using the platform-specific path below.

If the download will not start or is stuck
- Check PlayStation service status. If the status page reports a service problem, wait for service to return before retrying. Repeated attempts during an outage are unlikely to help.
- Pause and resume the download. Open your console’s download list, pause the game, and resume it.
- Cancel the queued download and try again. If resuming fails, cancel and delete the queued item. Find the eligible game in your Library and start the download again.
- Check storage and system software, particularly on PS5. Open the game’s product page to see its required space, then check Settings > Storage for available space. Install any available system software update.
Use PlayStation’s download troubleshooting guide for console-specific download-list instructions and further troubleshooting.

PS5 launch steps
- Restart the console and try launching the game again.
- Restore licenses using Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- Delete the game and download it again from your Library.
- Check for and install the latest PS5 system software.
- If it still fails, use Safe Mode to clear the cache and rebuild the database. Follow PlayStation’s game launch troubleshooting guidance for the Safe Mode procedure.
- Reinstalling system software is a later, more disruptive step. Use Sony’s instructions and check their warnings before proceeding.
If the PS5 game is installed on USB extended storage, move it to the console’s internal storage and try again. After re-downloading, Sony also suggests testing a wired connection if possible; Ethernet is optional and only relevant when your console and router can be connected. A wired connection cannot fix an inactive membership, an unavailable catalog title, or a license problem.
PS4 launch steps
- Restart the console and try the game again.
- Restore licenses from Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses.
- Delete the game and download it again from your Library.
- Check for the latest PS4 system software.
- If the problem remains, use PlayStation’s launch troubleshooting guide for the available Safe Mode options and instructions.
Use the error code or contact PlayStation Support
If an error code appears, look up that exact code in PlayStation’s error-code directory rather than assuming every download or launch failure has the same cause. The directory includes guidance for download failures, subscription confirmation, unavailable Store content, and padlocked games.

Include the date and time of the attempt and, if possible, a screenshot or video. This detail helps support distinguish an entitlement problem from a console or service failure.
