One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchIf a DualSense controller won’t connect to your PS5, connect it to the console with a USB cable and press the PS button. If that fails, reset the controller, reconnect it by USB, and check for software updates. The steps below follow PlayStation’s support guidance; reset-button instructions here are specifically for DualSense.
First, check which controller you have
The reset steps in this guide are for the DualSense wireless controller. PlayStation’s instructions for other controller models may differ, so confirm the model before using the reset procedure.

Pair or reconnect the DualSense with a USB cable
- Turn on the PS5.
- Connect the DualSense to the console using the USB cable supplied with the controller.
- Press the PS button. The light bar should blink, then the player indicator lights when pairing succeeds. If the controller has charge, unplug the cable and try it wirelessly. PlayStation’s controller support and its DualSense troubleshooting guide describe this wired reconnection step.
If pairing does not complete, try the supplied cable again, or substitute a known data-capable USB cable and a different PS5 USB port. This is a practical troubleshooting check; PlayStation’s cited instructions require a USB connection but do not specify a cable diagnostic procedure.

Pair an additional controller from PS5 Settings
If another controller already works with the console, use it to pair the second one:

- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
- On the PS5, go to Settings > Accessories > General > Bluetooth Accessories.
- On the controller you want to add, hold Create and PS together until its light bar blinks.
- Select the controller when it appears on the screen. PlayStation’s wireless pairing instructions cover this process.
Reset the DualSense, then connect it again
If USB pairing and wireless pairing do not work, reset the controller. PlayStation describes this as a controller reset; it does not reconfigure the controller or affect pairing settings, and it is not a factory reset that erases user data.
- Turn off the PS5 and disconnect the controller from USB.
- Find the small reset button on the back of the DualSense. Use a pin or similar tool to press and hold it for at least five seconds.
- Reconnect the controller to the PS5 with the USB cable and press the PS button to pair it again. See PlayStation’s reset and reconnection instructions.
Check whether it was paired with another PS5
A DualSense controller can be paired with only one PS5 console at a time. If you have used it with a different PS5, pair it with the console you want to use by connecting it over USB and pressing PS, or follow the additional-controller pairing steps above. PlayStation says up to four controllers can be used at once.

Update the PS5 and controller software
If the console can be operated with another controller, check for a PS5 system software update. DualSense controller software updates are delivered with PS5 system software updates. PlayStation also lists this manual controller update path: Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) > DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software. Menu labels may vary as PlayStation updates its software.

If the controller still will not pair after a reset, USB reconnection, and software checks, use PlayStation Repairs for diagnosis. Connection failure alone does not establish a particular hardware fault, so avoid assuming a specific internal component has failed.
