Yes. The Razer Tartarus V2 Pro works for basic input without Razer Synapse, using its factory-default profile. To remap keys or create custom profiles, configure the keypad in Synapse first; settings from the last-used Synapse profile can then be stored onboard.
What works without Synapse?
Razer describes its products as plug-and-play. With the Tartarus V2 Pro (model RZ07-0552) connected but not configured in Synapse, expect its factory-default input rather than a personalized layout. Razer specifies that this default profile has a 2.0 mm actuation point and Rapid Trigger off, and says the profile cannot be modified. What needs Synapse?
Custom key mappings and profiles
Razer says to install the latest Synapse to customize the Tartarus V2 Pro’s keys. Use it to remap buttons and set up game-specific profiles. The keypad’s onboard storage can hold up to eight profiles, and its “Last-used Razer Synapse Profile” keeps the latest keypad settings applied in Synapse. That storage preserves settings; it does not let you create custom mappings without Synapse.
Macros and lighting
Do not assume macros or lighting can be set up or used independently of Synapse. Razer says onboard macro support varies by model, and lighting is managed through Synapse. The support documentation does not establish that every macro or lighting configuration works with Synapse closed or on another computer.

Which adjustments can you make on the keypad?
Some features have onboard controls. Razer says Snap Tap is off by default and can be toggled with Fn + Left Shift. Its support specification also lists quick onboard adjustment for actuation and Rapid Trigger. These controls do not replace Synapse for building a custom key layout or profile.
Does this apply to every Tartarus model?
No. This answer concerns the Tartarus V2 Pro, model RZ07-0552. Do not confuse it with the older Tartarus V2, model RZ07-02270; Razer lists separate support specifications for that device. Check the model number on your keypad before relying on model-specific features or shortcuts.

What about the Synapse 2.0 cloud notice?
Razer’s Synapse 2.0 FAQ says cloud-related features for Synapse 2.0 ended effective October 28, 2025, while existing local profiles and macros remain stored locally. That notice is about Synapse 2.0; it does not replace the Tartarus V2 Pro’s model-specific guidance to use the latest Synapse for key customization.
