Identify the failure stage before changing settings
The symptom tells you which layer to test first. A wheel that never moves during startup has a different problem from one that appears in Windows but does nothing in a particular game.

1. Rebuild the physical connection
Power the wheel base directly
- Turn the wheel off, or disconnect it from the host device.
- Unplug the AC connector from the rear of the G29 base and plug it firmly back in.
- Connect the power adapter directly to a working wall outlet. Avoid diagnosing through a switched-off power strip or an outlet that is controlled by a wall switch.
- Reconnect the wheel’s USB cable directly to the computer or console. Do not use a USB hub, extension cable, KVM, front-panel switch, or other intermediary while testing.
Logitech’s pedal-troubleshooting guidance puts power first: the wheel must be properly connected to power before pedals or USB behavior can be judged. A USB connection alone cannot make a powered racing wheel operate normally.
Try a different host USB port
Move the USB plug to another port on the same computer or console, then allow the wheel to start from a completely disconnected state. On a desktop PC, a rear motherboard port is a useful diagnostic because it removes the front-panel cable and case wiring from the path. If one port works and another does not, use the working port and update the motherboard USB chipset driver as Logitech recommends for a wired device that responds only on a different port.

Test another host
If available, connect the G29 directly to a second computer or compatible console. This does not prove that every game will support the wheel, but it distinguishes a host-side problem from a wheel-side problem. A failure on two hosts after direct power and USB checks points away from a single Windows installation or game profile.
2. Set the platform switch before connecting USB
The selector on the G29 base must match the platform. Set it before plugging in USB, then disconnect and reconnect the wheel if you changed it while the device was already attached.

Using PS3 mode on a PS4, PS5, or PC can make a correctly powered wheel look absent or prevent normal input. Logitech lists Logitech Gaming Software version 8.70 or later for full PC functionality, while Logitech G HUB is the Windows application used to verify current device detection and input.

3. Watch the startup calibration
With power and USB connected, a functioning G29 normally rotates fully toward one side, fully toward the other, and returns to center. This movement is the wheel’s startup calibration.
- Full sweep and return to center: the motor, power path, and basic startup sequence are operating. Continue with Windows or game-level checks if input is still missing.
- No movement at all: do not begin by changing steering sensitivity or force-feedback settings. Repeat the direct power and USB tests, confirm the switch position, and try another host.
- Partial movement, sudden stopping, or repeated resets: disconnect USB, reseat the AC connector, and test a different outlet and host. Persistent behavior after those tests raises concern about the power supply, cable, USB interface, or wheel base.
Keep fingers and loose objects clear of the rim during calibration. Do not hold the wheel against its end stop while it is trying to center.
4. Confirm detection in Logitech G HUB on Windows
Check whether G HUB sees the device
- Close the game and connect the G29 directly to the PC with the switch in PS4 mode.
- Open Logitech G HUB.
- Look for the G29 on the home screen and open its device page.
- Turn the wheel, press a pedal, and press several buttons while watching for input response.
If the G29 is absent from G HUB, keep working on power, the platform switch, USB ports, and host isolation. Reinstalling or reconfiguring a game cannot make a device that Windows never receives appear in that game.

Interpret G HUB results
- G HUB sees the wheel and shows live input: the physical USB link is probably good. Test Windows’ controller panel next, then troubleshoot the individual game.
- G HUB sees the wheel but input is frozen: disconnect and reconnect directly, test another port, and compare the result on another host.
- G HUB never sees it: verify PS4 mode on the PC, repeat direct power and USB tests, and avoid hubs and extensions during diagnosis.
5. Test the axes and buttons in Windows itself
Testing outside the game prevents a game profile from hiding the real result. Open the native Windows Controller panel by pressing Win+R, entering joy.cpl, and pressing Enter. Select the G29, choose Properties, and open the test page.

- Turn the wheel slowly from lock to lock. The steering axis should move smoothly and return toward center.
- Press each pedal separately. Confirm that brake, accelerator, and clutch axes respond and do not remain permanently pressed.
- Press the wheel buttons, paddles, and shifter inputs that your setup uses.
- Close the test page, reconnect once, and repeat if the first result looked stale.
A working Windows test means the operating system is receiving the device’s controls. If only one game fails after this test, focus on that game’s control binding, input mode, and force-feedback support rather than replacing the wheel.
6. Use the registry procedure only for a blank test page or calibration problem
Logitech classifies registry work as advanced because it changes Windows’ stored joystick configuration. Use it only when the Windows Controller test page is blank or the documented calibration problem applies. Before editing, create a backup and verify that the entry belongs to your G29.

- Press Win+R, type
regedit, and press Enter. Approve the User Account Control prompt only if you are signed in with an administrator account. - In Registry Editor, navigate to
ComputerHKEY_CURRENT_USERSystemCurrentControlSetControlMediaPropertiesPrivatePropertiesJoystickOEMVID_046D&PID_C24F. - Confirm that the device identifier is
VID_046D&PID_C24F, which Logitech identifies for the G29. - Export the identified key before making any change so you can restore the previous state.
- Apply only the change specified in Logitech’s documented G29 connection procedure for your blank-page or calibration symptom. Do not delete unrelated joystick keys or change values by guesswork.
- Close Registry Editor, disconnect and reconnect the G29, then retest it in
joy.cpl.
If the key is missing, the identifier does not match, or you are unsure which value the procedure refers to, stop at the backup stage. A registry edit is not a substitute for fixing a dead USB connection or failed power supply.

When G HUB and the Windows Controller panel both show normal steering, pedals, and buttons, the remaining fault is usually inside the game’s profile or input configuration.
Rebind controls in the game
- Open the game’s controller or wheel settings and select the G29, if the title offers a device list.
- Clear existing steering, throttle, brake, clutch, shifter, and button bindings that conflict with the wheel.
- Bind each axis manually by moving the wheel or pedal when prompted.
- Set the steering range and center calibration using the game’s own instructions, then save the profile.
- Enable force feedback only after basic steering and pedal input works.
Check force-feedback support
Logitech lists games that support Logitech force feedback as part of the G29 requirements. A game can recognize generic button input while lacking support for the wheel’s force-feedback functions. If steering and pedals work in Windows but the wheel has no force feedback in one title, check that title’s supported-device list and its force-feedback toggle before treating the G29 as defective.

8. Fix repeated disconnects by isolating the connection path
A recurring disconnect is often caused by a connection that works briefly and then drops under movement, startup, or load. Use a repeatable isolation test rather than reconnecting randomly.
- Set the switch to the correct mode and power the wheel from a direct outlet.
- Connect USB to one direct host port with no hub, extension, KVM, or switch.
- Start the PC or console with the wheel already connected, then watch whether calibration completes.
- Gently route the cable so it is not stretched, sharply bent, or trapped against the desk or console.
- Repeat on a second direct USB port, then on another compatible host.
If the G29 remains stable on one port but not another, leave it on the stable port and address the host’s USB driver or port hardware. If it disconnects on every tested host after the direct-power and direct-USB checks, the wheel cable, power supply, USB interface, or base is increasingly suspect.
9. Console-specific checks
PlayStation 3
Set the base to PS3 before connecting USB. If the wheel does not calibrate, repeat the direct outlet and direct-console USB checks. Test the wheel in a title known to support Logitech force feedback before concluding that the console or wheel is at fault.

Use PS4 mode on both consoles. Connect USB directly to the console rather than through an intermediary device. Confirm that the game supports the G29 and that its wheel controls are enabled; console games can expose different steering and force-feedback options from their controller menus.
10. Know when hardware service or replacement is rational
Consider a hardware fault when all of the following are true:
- The AC connector is firmly seated and the outlet is known to work.
- The wheel is in the correct platform mode.
- USB has been tested directly on multiple host ports without a hub, extension, KVM, or switch.
- The G29 fails to calibrate or repeatedly resets.
- It remains absent from Logitech G HUB and the operating system’s Controller panel.
Those results make a failed power path, USB cable or interface, or wheel base more likely than a game setting. The Logitech troubleshooting articles do not provide a component-level repair procedure, so opening the base or replacing internal parts is not covered by this diagnostic path. If the unit is under warranty, use the seller or Logitech support route before opening it. If repair is uneconomical, the directly relevant replacement is the Logitech G29 Driving Force Racing Wheel, which Logitech lists as a powered USB wheel for Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
