Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf your FireStick remote is not responding or will not pair, start with fresh batteries and confirm the Fire TV is on. Then use the remote’s LED, if it has one, to narrow down the cause; try pairing again before resetting. Reset instructions vary by remote type, so identify your model before following that step.
1. Check the Fire TV and remote batteries
Confirm the Fire TV Stick or other Fire TV device is connected to power and that its screen is active. Then remove and reinstall the remote batteries, checking their orientation. If they are old or their condition is uncertain, replace them with a matched pair of AAA alkaline batteries; Amazon recommends alkaline batteries for best performance. Battery-cover designs differ, and some remotes have a latch. See Amazon’s battery replacement instructions for cover guidance.

2. Check the remote’s LED, if it supports diagnostics
Not every Fire TV remote has an LED or supports troubleshooting mode. To check, press Alexa Voice and look for an LED flash. If it flashes, hold Rewind and Right together for three seconds, then press Menu to enter troubleshooting mode. Press a remote button and read the LED:

3. Pair the remote again
During initial setup, a Fire TV remote normally pairs automatically after batteries are inserted and the TV is turned on. If your FireStick remote will not pair or the Fire TV remote is not responding, try pairing it again:
- Move within 10 feet (3 m) of the Fire TV.
- Press and hold Home until the on-screen pairing prompt appears. This takes about 10 seconds.
- If there is no prompt, remove the batteries for 30 seconds, reinstall them, and hold Home again. Try a fresh pair of alkaline batteries if needed.
If seven controllers are already paired, remove one before adding another. Amazon also says the Fire TV app can be used to pair a remote; consult the app’s current pairing instructions, as its screens may change. Follow the steps in Amazon’s pairing guide.

4. Reset the correct type of remote
Reset steps depend on the remote generation. Amazon publishes different procedures for most remotes, Basic Edition remotes, and first-generation Alexa Voice Remotes. Do not assume one sequence applies to all three; check the model-specific reset instructions if you have a Basic Edition or first-generation Alexa Voice Remote.
