Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

In Windows 11 24H1 and earlier, turn it on under Settings > System > Power & battery > Battery Saver. In Windows 11 24H2 and later, Microsoft renamed it Energy Saver; find it under Settings > System > Power & battery or in Quick Settings.

Windows 11 24H1 and earlier: Battery Saver
- Open Settings > System > Power & battery.
- Expand Battery Saver.
- Select Turn on now to enable it immediately, or choose a battery level for automatic activation.
You can also use the Battery icon in the notification area to access the Battery Saver quick setting. When you turn on Battery Saver using the immediate control, it remains on until the next time the PC is plugged in. Microsoft’s Battery Saver documentation says the default automatic trigger is below 20%; you can select a different threshold.
Windows 11 24H2 and later: Energy Saver
- Open Settings > System > Power & battery.
- Open the Energy saver controls.
- Turn Energy Saver on, set the battery level for automatic activation, or configure it to stay on while the PC is plugged in.
You can also toggle Energy saver in Quick Settings. Microsoft says Energy Saver replaced Battery Saver in Windows 11 24H2 and later; see its Energy Saver documentation.

What changes when power saving is enabled?
Battery Saver on Windows 11 24H1 and earlier
Microsoft documents several power-saving behaviors. Battery Saver can block background apps, delay downloads for non-critical Windows updates while still allowing scans, and reduce display brightness by 30% by default; the brightness behavior is configurable. Some categories, including VoIP apps, continue to run.

Does an antivirus app have its own Battery Saver mode?
The Windows procedure above enables a built-in power feature; it does not change an antivirus setting. The title does not identify a specific antivirus product, so it is not possible to confirm whether that app has a separate power-saving control. Check the app’s own settings or help for its exact name and behavior rather than assuming it includes Windows Battery Saver.
An Avast privacy document describes a separately named “Avast Battery Saver for Windows” that creates power-plan profiles, but it does not establish that the tool is currently available or that it is an antivirus feature. See the Avast document.
