A Fire TV Stick that shows no picture may still be working: the TV could be on the wrong HDMI input, or the Stick may not be getting enough power. Check the input and power first, then restart the device. If the home screen works but an app will not load, troubleshoot that app; if several apps or network features fail, check Wi-Fi.
1. Check the TV input and HDMI connection
Turn on the television and select the HDMI input that the Fire TV Stick is plugged into. If the Stick connects through a receiver, soundbar, or HDMI hub, temporarily plug it directly into the TV. This simplifies the signal path and helps identify whether another device is interrupting the connection.

Make sure the HDMI connection is secure. Amazon also recommends checking the connection and using a high-speed HDMI cable where relevant; that does not mean every Fire TV Stick needs a new cable. See Amazon’s Fire TV troubleshooting steps.
2. Check power before troubleshooting apps
Use the power cable and adapter supplied with your Fire TV device, and check that both ends are firmly connected. Amazon’s support page says: “Use the power cable and adapter included with your Fire TV device.” If the Stick is powered from the TV’s USB port and displays a low-power notification, try another USB port or a suitable 5W adapter rated 5V, 1A or equivalent, with a longer USB cable. Amazon advises using a wall outlet if the TV’s USB power is insufficient. Its general setup guidance recommends wall power and avoiding TV USB, though power options can differ by model.

Amazon also says: “If you lose your Fire TV device power cable or adapter, replace them with Amazon branded equipment to ensure compatibility.” Confirm your Stick’s model and connector before buying a replacement: connector types vary. The low-power advice is at Amazon’s Fire TV low-power troubleshooting page; see also Amazon’s Fire TV Stick setup guidance.
3. Restart the Stick if it is powered on but frozen
If the device appears to have power but the screen or interface is frozen, hold the remote’s Select and Play/Pause buttons together for about five seconds to force a restart. Alternatively, unplug the Stick’s power, wait 60 seconds, and reconnect it. These restart steps come from Amazon’s frozen-screen troubleshooting page.

When only one app is affected, start with that app rather than treating the Stick as dead. Restart Fire TV and install any available system updates. Then clear the affected app’s cache; clearing its data is a stronger step and may remove local app state or require you to sign in again.

Amazon’s Prime Video troubleshooting and Silk troubleshooting describe their respective app steps.

When multiple apps or network features fail, check the Fire TV’s network status. Restart Fire TV and your modem or router, then reconnect to Wi-Fi if necessary. If the device remains unable to connect, forget the network on Fire TV and join it again.

6. Replace an accessory only when the symptom points to it
- Power adapter or cable: Consider a compatible replacement if the supplied one is missing, damaged, or demonstrably insufficient. Check the Stick’s exact model and connector, and match Amazon’s stated low-power guidance of 5W (5V, 1A or equivalent) where it applies.
- HDMI extender: This can help if the TV’s HDMI ports are crowded or difficult to access. It is a physical-fit aid, not a fix for power, app, or Wi-Fi faults. Amazon’s setup guidance covers the connection setup.
- Remote batteries: Replace the remote’s AAA alkaline batteries if the remote itself is unresponsive. Batteries will not restore power to an otherwise unpowered Stick.
