First test screenshots on a regular screen outside the banking app. If those work, follow the bank’s policy and ask how to get an approved receipt or account record. If the app itself is black during normal use, troubleshoot it as a display or app problem instead.
First identify where the black screen appears
There are two different problems that can look similar:

- Only the saved screenshot or recording is black or absent: the banking app may intentionally restrict capture.
- The app itself looks black while you are using it: the live display is failing, so app-specific troubleshooting is appropriate.
Check whether screenshots work in other apps, and note whether the issue affects screenshots, recordings, or both. The phone’s operating system and the banking app version may also matter.

If only the screenshot or recording is black
Test the phone’s normal screenshot function
Try a screenshot on an ordinary, non-sensitive screen outside the banking app. On many Android devices, Google documents pressing Power and Volume down; the image can then be viewed in Photos or Gallery. Button combinations and image locations can vary by device. Google’s Android screenshot instructions explain the standard method.

Check whether the bank intentionally blocks capture
If screenshots work elsewhere but not on the account screen, consult the bank’s official help page. Some banks explicitly disable screenshots to protect personal and financial information: Bank of India says its app does not allow screenshots for security, and Credit One Bank describes its restriction as a safeguard for customer information. A blocked or black capture does not by itself mean the app’s live display is broken. Huawei notes that third-party apps may prohibit screenshots or recordings for information-security or copyright reasons, and that a recording can appear black even while audio continues. Respect the restriction and request another record
Do not install screenshot or recording bypass tools, or root or jailbreak the phone to defeat a banking app’s protection. Ask the bank how to obtain the information you need through an approved method, such as an in-app receipt, statement, or other official record.

- Close screen recording or screen-sharing apps if the bank advises it. Bank of India specifically says to close those apps before using its app. Its guidance also identifies VPNs, simulator or dual-app setups, and rooted or jailbroken devices as app-use issues; these conditions are specific to that bank and should not be treated as universal rules. - Check your bank’s official requirements. Look up supported operating-system versions and any security conditions for your particular app. Install app updates only through official app stores. - Restart the app and phone. Close the app, reopen it, and restart the device. These are basic checks, not a guaranteed fix for every bank or device.
- Contact the bank if the display remains black. Use the support channel or phone number published on the bank’s official app or website. Avoid sharing account credentials with anyone offering an unofficial fix.
Why behavior can differ by platform or version
Capture rules are not identical across banks, operating systems, or app versions. HSBC Taiwan, for example, describes Android screenshot and video-recording restrictions in its mobile app. Its FAQ separately says that, from app version 3.33, iOS screen recording, mirroring, and casting are restricted while screenshots remain supported. So, if screenshots work on one device or platform but not another, check the bank’s current guidance for that exact app and version before assuming the phone is defective.
