For a musician building an artist-led Instagram presence, a Creator account is a sensible starting point—not a universal winner. Both Creator and Business are professional account types with tools and analytics useful to artists. Choose based on the music options and usage rights for your content, whether you need creator-brand collaboration tools, and whether business contact or sales workflows matter more to your work.
What both account types offer musicians
Both Creator and Business accounts are professional account types. WIPO’s 2024 guide for the music industry describes both as useful to artists and notes that they provide data about posts and followers, including examples such as profile visits, shares, and when followers are typically online. Those examples describe the guide’s 2024 account of Instagram; the exact metrics and interface may change.

That shared foundation means the choice is less about whether an account is professional and more about which workflows fit the artist. The available evidence does not establish a complete current feature-by-feature comparison, nor does it show that switching account type improves reach.
Why Creator is a reasonable starting point for an artist profile
WIPO says Instagram introduced Creator accounts in 2019 with features aimed at influencers that can also be useful to music creators. If the profile primarily represents you as an artist—your releases, performances, and audience—Creator is therefore a reasonable first option to evaluate.

That does not mean every musician should choose Creator. An artist may also operate as a business and depend on business-oriented contact, sales, or operational features. Compare the tasks you need to perform rather than assuming the account label alone determines what will work.
Can business accounts use music on Instagram?
Do not assume that every account type has the same music options. A surfaced Instagram Help Center excerpt says certain business accounts and certain post types do not have access to Instagram’s licensed music library. This is a qualified limitation, not evidence that all Business accounts lack music access. Check the track and post type available to your account in the app.

Library availability and permission to use a track are separate issues. Seeing or selecting a song in Instagram does not, by itself, establish that your particular use—especially in a commercial context—is cleared. Confirm the applicable rights and terms for the specific track and use.

Creator Marketplace is a documented route for brand collaborations. In a February 21, 2024 newsroom post, Meta said creators could join through the professional dashboard, indicate relevant brands and interests, and receive partnership opportunities. The post also describes partnership ads. Meta said creators could review an opportunity’s details, requirements, and rate in the Instagram app.

This is useful if brand partnerships are part of your plans, but the post is dated: verify current access, regional availability, and in-app requirements before relying on it. A Marketplace workflow does not settle the separate question of music rights for sponsored content.

Do not switch solely on the expectation of better reach or broader music access.

WIPO’s 2024 guide says a smartphone is usually adequate for video and advises holding the phone or camera steadily. A tripod can help keep a phone steady, but that is a practical inference rather than a tested product recommendation.
