Where Samsung Electronics shares trade
Samsung Electronics’ Investor Relations listing information says its original shares are listed on the KRX, while its GDRs are listed on the LSE. These are distinct securities and trading routes; a GDR is a depositary receipt representing shares, not the original KRX-listed share. Samsung Electronics listing information

Which Samsung Electronics ticker should you look up?
Start with the market you intend to access and the share class you want. The KRX symbols 005930 and 005935 identify the original common and preferred shares, respectively. On the LSE, SMSN and SMSD identify the corresponding common and preferred GDRs. Confirm the exchange and ISIN as well as the ticker when searching through a broker, since a ticker alone may not make clear which security is being displayed.

Common and preferred shares
The common and preferred listings represent different share classes, not simply alternate spellings of one ticker. Samsung’s reported end-of-Q2 2026 share count was 6,648,649,811 in total: 5,846,278,608 common shares (87.9%) and 802,371,203 preferred shares (12.1%). These figures are the company’s reported shares outstanding at that period-end, not a current market price or a measure of investment performance. Samsung Electronics stock information
Original shares and GDRs
Buying an original share on the KRX is different from buying a GDR on the LSE. A GDR is a depositary receipt representing shares and is traded through the depositary-receipt listing. Availability and trading access depend on a broker and the investor’s location.

What U.S. investors should know
Samsung’s stock-purchase page says U.S. residents are prohibited from trading the GDRs described there under Rule 144A, and that the securities described on that page are not subject to a public offering in the United States. This is a limitation stated for those GDRs and that page; it should not be read as a definitive statement about every possible brokerage or security route. U.S. investors should check the specific security and applicable access restrictions with their broker and consult Samsung’s guidance. Samsung Electronics stock purchase information

The listing venues identified in Samsung Electronics’ Investor Relations materials are the KRX for original shares and the LSE for GDRs. Those materials do not identify a U.S. exchange listing. The company’s U.S.-related statement about the GDRs on its stock-purchase page is narrower: it addresses the securities described there and does not establish the status of every possible way an investor might encounter Samsung-related securities.
