Collect everything in Chapter 10: Shackled before escaping Napoleon’s Prison. The jail is a one-way area in the City of Orphans: once William leaves through the sewers, the prison cannot be revisited. The completionist route collects both Prison Warden’s Journal entries, retrieves the Armoury Key and confiscated equipment, obtains the Chapel Key, takes the deceased-prisoners letter, and posts that letter on the city notice board after the escape to finish The Choir and receive a Remnant’s Return.
What is missable in Chapter 10: Shackled?
Chapter 10 places William in Napoleon’s Prison without his normal equipment. The section is optional for players who only want to follow the escape route, but it is a permanent collection window. PowerPyx describes the quest as optional and states that you cannot return after leaving. Treat the sewer route as the prison’s exit lock: search every accessible room, complete the evidence objectives, and recover your gear before going that way.

The prison objectives are tied to The Choir. Two journal entries, two keys, the confiscated equipment, and the prisoner list form the important evidence trail. The quest does not finish when you pick up the letter; its final interaction is on the city notice board after William reaches the streets.
Escape-only route versus completionist route
| Approach | What you do | What you give up or gain |
|---|---|---|
| Escape-only | Follow the linear path from the cell and leave through the sewers. | Fastest exit, but the prison evidence and its associated reward are lost once you leave. |
| Completionist | Collect both journals, take the Armoury Key, open the Armoury chest, take the Chapel Key, retrieve the prisoner letter, then post it in the city. | Completes The Choir, restores William’s equipment, and awards a Remnant’s Return. |
Before moving through the prison
- Remember that death in the jail sends William back to his cell, according to the Chapter 10 walkthrough. Use that reset to retry a difficult room rather than assuming a death has permanently removed a pickup.
- Do not spend the section searching for the Armoury Key on the lower floor. It is upstairs in the kitchen and is reached through the rafters.
- The Chapel Key and the deceased-prisoners letter are separate pickups. Taking the key does not complete the evidence objective; the letter must still be collected inside the chapel.
- The Choir’s reward is delayed until after the escape. Keep the letter in your inventory and look for the notice board beside the Lantern in the city.
Step-by-step: every required prison collectible
1. Start The Choir and take Prison Warden’s Journal – Part One
Begin in William’s cell and follow the initial route. The opening path is linear, so advance until the first rooms branch on the left. Enter the room containing the horn. Prison Warden’s Journal – Part One is inside this room; interact with it before continuing.

- UNCOVER A HORRID CONSPIRACY - Witness a compelling story where historical figures and realities intertwine with elements of horror and the supernatural. Explore beyond the dark corners of the world to discover the truth behind the plague and your unholy resurrection.
This is the easiest journal to pass because it sits beside the opening route. If you run past the horn room and reach the upper-floor approach, turn around and check the left-side rooms before climbing farther. The journal is evidence for The Choir, not a random lore note that can be ignored.
2. Reach the upper patrol room
Continue along the main corridor to the upper hallway and interact with the door at its end. You will enter a large room patrolled by enemies. The route to the kitchen is vertical rather than a normal staircase-only path.
- Locate the stairs inside the patrol room.
- Use the crates to gain height where the floor route stops.
- Move across the scaffolding toward the wooden rafters.
- Follow the rafters toward the center of the room.
Stay on the rafters until you can drop into the upper-floor kitchen. If you drop too early, you may land back in the patrol area instead of reaching the key table; climb back to the scaffolding and follow the central rafters.

Drop from the rafters into the upper-floor kitchen. The Armoury Key is on a table in this kitchen. Pick it up before leaving the upper floor. The key is not located downstairs, and there is no second key that must be found in the patrol room.
The kitchen is also the reference point for the second journal. After taking the key, inspect the small room beside the kitchen’s key-pickup area for Prison Warden’s Journal – Part Two. Collecting the journal now avoids having to retrace the upper floor after you recover your weapons.

4. Open the Armoury and recover William’s equipment
Return downstairs from the upper floor and find the Armoury door. Use the Armoury Key, then open the red chest inside. The chest restores William’s confiscated weapons and equipment.
If the key does not appear to work, verify that you are at the Armoury door rather than another locked door on the lower level. The red chest is the interaction that actually returns the gear; merely unlocking the room does not complete the recovery.

5. Collect Prison Warden’s Journal – Part Two
If you did not take it immediately after the Armoury Key, go back upstairs and enter the small room beside the kitchen key pickup. The second journal is Prison Warden’s Journal – Part Two. Both journal parts are required evidence for the prison portion of The Choir.
Use the journal check as a navigation checkpoint: Part One is in the horn room on the opening route, while Part Two is beside the kitchen on the upper floor. They are not in the same wing and neither replaces the other.
6. Find the Chapel Key in the upper-floor memory room
From the kitchen side of the upper floor, cross to the opposite side. Enter the room that contains a memory. A table in this room holds the Key to the Chapel. Take it before beginning the final evidence search.
The memory room can look like a story-only detour, which makes the key easy to overlook. Check the table after interacting with the room’s memory and confirm that the key pickup has registered before crossing back toward the chapel door.
7. Enter the chapel and take the deceased-prisoners letter
Use the Chapel Key on the chapel door. Inside, move behind the bodies to the counter. The evidence item on the counter is Letter to Headquarters – A List of Deceased Prisoners. This is the final prison document for The Choir.
Picking up the letter completes the prison collection portion, but it does not yet award the quest reward. Do not discard or overlook the letter; its required destination is outside the prison.
8. Escape through the sewer and post the letter in the city
Once the journals, keys, equipment, and letter are secured, continue through the sewer route and emerge in the city. Near the Lantern, find the city notice board and interact with it. Choose the option to post the deceased-prisoners letter.
That notice-board interaction completes The Choir and grants a Remnant’s Return. If the quest remains active after reaching the city, check the board beside the Lantern rather than searching the prison for another trigger.

Optional prison pickups for a fuller clear
The following items are useful detours but are separate from the evidence required for The Choir. They are included in completionist routes because they provide materials or consumables.
Silver Lockpick and Eternal Catalyst Clot
Whisper of the House reports a hidden Silver Lockpick. Find the hanging prisoner and use Fire Transmutation to burn the body. The lockpick is revealed by that interaction. Use it on the nearby cell to obtain an Eternal Catalyst Clot worth 5,000 Catalysts.
This detour requires the relevant Fire Transmutation ability. If the prisoner does not react, confirm that the transmutation is equipped and that you are targeting the hanging body rather than a nearby object. The lockpick and the catalyst clot are optional rewards, so a player focused only on The Choir can continue without them.
Chests behind Nephtoglobin weak points
The prison also contains optional chests hidden behind Nephtoglobin weak points. The reported contents include Distilled Blade Material and a Remnant’s Return consumable. These chests are not part of the required journal-and-letter chain, but they are worthwhile if you are upgrading weapons or stocking recovery items.

Search the prison’s side spaces for the weak points before taking the sewer route. Because the prison cannot be revisited after the escape, any unopened optional chest is unavailable for the rest of the playthrough unless you load an earlier save.

Complete prison checklist
Use this list before committing to the sewer exit:
- Prison Warden’s Journal – Part One: horn room on the left of the opening route.
- Armoury Key: table in the upper-floor kitchen, reached via stairs, crates, scaffolding, and central rafters.
- Prison Warden’s Journal – Part Two: small room beside the kitchen key pickup.
- Confiscated weapons and equipment: red chest inside the Armoury, opened with the Armoury Key.
- Key to the Chapel: table in the upper-floor room containing a memory.
- Letter to Headquarters – A List of Deceased Prisoners: chapel counter behind the bodies.
- Silver Lockpick: revealed by burning the hanging prisoner with Fire Transmutation.
- Eternal Catalyst Clot: nearby cell opened with the Silver Lockpick; worth 5,000 Catalysts.
- Optional chest contents: Distilled Blade Material and a Remnant’s Return behind Nephtoglobin weak points.
- The Choir completion: post the deceased-prisoners letter on the city notice board beside the Lantern after the escape.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
Leaving before collecting the evidence
The most serious mistake is treating the prison as a normal zone and taking the sewer as soon as the escape path opens. The evidence chain is tied to this visit, so finish the checklist first. If you already escaped, the prison cannot be reopened from the city; only a save from before the exit can restore the opportunity.
Searching the wrong floor for the Armoury Key
The Armoury Key is upstairs, not in the lower-floor rooms. Return to the large patrol room, climb through the crates and scaffolding to the wooden rafters, and drop into the kitchen at the center of the upper floor.
Assuming the Chapel Key is the final objective
The Chapel Key only opens the door. Enter the chapel, move behind the bodies, and take the letter from the counter. The quest remains unfinished until the letter is posted in the city.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsLooking for the reward inside the prison
The Remnant’s Return comes from the notice-board interaction beside the Lantern after the sewer escape. There is no prison chest that substitutes for this step.
Forgetting optional pickups
Optional items do not appear in the required evidence sequence. If you want the Silver Lockpick, catalyst clot, or Nephtoglobin chests, deliberately make a side-search before leaving instead of assuming the main quest will route you past them.
How this chapter fits the wider collectible count
iTechGuides reports broader game totals attributed to PowerPyx in 2026: 11 main quests, 10 regions, 20 side quests, and 89 collectible locations. Those figures cover the entire game, not Napoleon’s Prison alone, so they should not be used as a count of Chapter 10 pickups.
| Guide-reported game total | Reported number | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Main quests | 11 | Whole game |
| Regions | 10 | Whole game |
| Side quests | 20 | Whole game |
| Collectible locations | 89 | Whole game |
| Amber items | 55 | Whole game |
| Max-level Upgrade Materials | 6 | Whole game |
| Ferrofluid Power Upgrades | 21 | Whole game |
| Ferrofluid Quantity Upgrades | 7 | Whole game |
Chapter 10’s meaningful missables are therefore best tracked by item and quest state rather than by trying to subtract a prison number from the global total. The prison-specific evidence and optional pickups listed above are the practical completion targets for this escape.
The Bottom Line
Search the horn room, upper-floor kitchen, journal room, memory room, chapel, and optional side areas before using the sewer. Recover the red-chest equipment, post the prisoner letter on the city notice board beside the Lantern, and The Choir will be complete with its Remnant’s Return reward.
