How to Find Chrome’s Menu Bar on Windows, Linux, and Mac

Chrome’s menu works differently by platform: use the More button on Windows or Linux, or select Chrome in the macOS menu bar.

If you’re looking for the menu bar in Google Chrome, where to find it depends on your computer. On Windows and Linux, open Chrome’s menu with the More button at the top right. On Mac, click Chrome in the macOS menu bar at the top of the screen. Chrome’s command menu is not the same as its bookmarks bar or toolbar.

Open Chrome’s menu on Windows or Linux

  1. Look at the upper-right corner of the Chrome window and select the More button to open the browser menu. Google’s Chrome Help instructions describe this menu-button approach for Windows and Linux.

  2. To reach the menu button with your keyboard, press Alt or F10, then use the arrow keys to navigate. Chromium’s keyboard-access documentation says these keys focus the Chromium menu button in the toolbar; it also documents Alt+F as a way to focus that button.

These instructions open Chrome’s menu; they do not add a persistent File/Edit/View-style menu bar to the Windows or Linux window. The official guidance describes the More button instead.

Open Chrome’s application menu on Mac

On Mac, the application menu is in the macOS menu bar at the top of the screen. Select Chrome there to see Chrome’s commands, as described in Google’s Chrome Help instructions. This system menu bar is separate from the controls and toolbar inside the Chrome window.

Want the bookmarks bar instead?

If you want saved websites displayed across the browser window, you’re looking for the bookmarks bar, not the command menu. Chrome treats it as a separate feature. Chrome Enterprise’s ShowBookmarkBar policy documentation says administrators can set the policy to show or hide the bar; when the policy is unset, users can choose.

Make the toolbar visible in Mac full-screen mode

If the address bar or toolbar is the part you can’t see while Chrome is in full-screen mode on Mac, use View > Always Show Toolbar in Full Screen. Google identifies this as the setting for keeping the toolbar visible in full screen on Mac: Google Chrome.
