To identify an unfamiliar track already playing nearby or in another app, use Shazam; Snapchat’s camera-based Shazam feature was announced in 2019, but current Snapchat help does not confirm that it is still available. You can also open a sound attached to a Snap or Spotlight post to explore or reuse it.
Choose the route that matches what you want to do

Find a song in Snapchat’s Sounds picker
- Open the Snap creation screen. Tap the Sounds icon while preparing a Snap.
- Browse or search. Snapchat lists For You, Saved, Recents, Trending, and My Sounds. You can also search by artist or sound.
- Preview and select a result. Tap a sound to hear it, then choose it for the Snap.
- Adjust the start point if needed. Tap the trim control and choose the portion of the track you want to use.
- Save or apply it. Use the bookmark to save a sound for later, then tap Done to apply your selection.
This searches sounds available to select in Snapchat. It does not identify an unknown song playing in the room. Snapchat notes that interface labels can change as the app is updated.

Find and reuse audio from a Snap or Spotlight post
From a Snap
If a Snap has a Sound pill, tap it to open the sound route. From there, Snapchat describes making a new Snap with that sound.
From a Spotlight post
Tap the sound label at the bottom of a Spotlight Snap to open its Sound Topic page. Snapchat says the page offers Use Sound and Save.

When a sound context card appears
A context card for a trending sound can show a music icon and the sound’s name. Tapping the label can reveal more posts using that sound. Snapchat says context cards are rolling out gradually and are available only in some countries, so this control will not appear for everyone.
Identify music playing nearby or in another app
Snap Inc. announced a Snapchat camera-search feature called Scan on April 4, 2019, and described using Shazam to recognize music. Its announcement said, “Scan is Snap’s camera search experience.” The announcement is historical: Snapchat’s current help pages about Sounds and context cards do not establish whether the Shazam recognition option remains in today’s app. If you see a music-recognition option in your version of Snapchat, you can try it; do not assume that holding the camera screen will identify a song for every account or app version.

Use Shazam as the documented alternative
Apple Support documents using the Shazam app on iPhone, iPad, or Android to identify music playing nearby or in another app. On iPhone or iPad, you can also add Shazam Music Recognition to Control Center and start recognition there. Apple says a recognized track appears in a notification and can be opened in Shazam; with the described setup, results are saved in the Shazam app.

- Tap Sounds, then choose Create Sound.
- Record for up to 60 seconds and stop the recording.
- Enter a name, and choose whether to make the sound public if that option is offered.
- Trim the audio as desired, then save it.
