To play a horror map in Fortnite, open Play and Discover, then search for the island by title or island code—or browse the available categories. Open its listing to check the displayed age rating and details, choose your party settings, then select the island and press Play.
Find a horror island by name or code
- Open Discover: Launch Fortnite, select Play, and open Discover. Epic’s support instructions say to scroll down to reveal Search; the layout may vary as the interface changes. Epic’s island search instructions and its Discover guide describe the search workflow.
- Search for the island: Enter its title or island code in the search field. Epic also documents creator codes and custom keys as search inputs. If you do not have a particular map in mind, browse the available categories instead.
- Check the listing: Open the island’s tile and review its current description, region-specific age rating, content descriptors, player information, and other details shown on the listing. Categories and featured rows can change, so a Horror category or a particular island may not always appear.
- Choose who can join: Before launching, open Island Options and choose public play or play limited to members of your party.
- Launch and save it: Select the island to go to the lobby, then choose Play. Use the heart or favorite control to save an island; favorites and recently played islands are available in the Library.
Example: search for an official horror island listing
BACKROOMS SURVIVAL HORROR is listed by Epic as a UEFN horror map. Its island code is 3968-9634-6688. Enter that code in Discover search to look it up, or search for the title. The listing is an example, not a guarantee that the island is currently featured or available in every region; check its live page and the rating displayed in your game before playing.

Choose a map that suits your group
Compare the details shown on each island’s own listing rather than choosing from its title alone:
- Rating and descriptors: Check the age rating for your region and the content descriptors before entering.
- Premise and gameplay: Read the description to see whether the island’s style and objectives suit what you want to play.
- Players and party fit: Review any player information shown, then set public or party-only access in Island Options.
- Findability: If you want to return to a specific map, save it as a favorite and keep its verified title or code handy.
Why a published map may not appear in Discover
Being published is not the same as being featured. Epic says a listed island can appear on its creator’s page and be eligible for Discover, while approved islands move in and out of Discover’s featured placements. An island may still be searchable and playable by code when it is not featured. Search the exact title or code; if it does not appear, confirm the code and current availability on the creator’s page or official listing. See Epic’s guidance on published islands missing from Discovery and how Discover works.

Where to get help with a creator-made map
For lost progress or technical problems in a custom map made by another creator, Epic says its general support team does not manage that map’s progress or technical issues. Find the island’s creator and contact them; community forums may help if the creator does not offer support. Epic’s Fortnite Custom Maps Support page explains this support boundary.
