Before pressing play, check the title’s access label: some books are included with eligible plans and listening time, while others require a separate one-time unlock through Spotify’s web player.
Find an audiobook in Spotify
- Open Spotify and search for the audiobook’s title or the author’s name. To browse instead, select Search > Browse All > Audiobooks.
- Open a result to review its description, length, rating, explicit-content marker, and any available sample. Save a title if you want to find it again later.
- Check the access label and options shown on the audiobook page. A label such as Included in Premium indicates a title in an eligible subscriber catalog; other titles may be available to unlock individually. Spotify’s subscriber-catalog information and Audiobooks Access plan details describe US plan terms.
Choose how to access the title
| Access route | How it works | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Included subscriber catalog | Eligible accounts can listen to selected catalog titles using the plan’s monthly audiobook hours. | Look for the included label. Eligibility and included titles vary by plan and country. |
| Separate audiobook unlock | Pay once for an individual title through Spotify’s web player; after unlocking it, play it in the app and download it for offline listening. | Confirm the title offers an unlock in your market. The unlock gives account access to the audiobook; it is not ownership of the content. |
Spotify explains the individual purchase flow in its audiobook unlock guide. A separately unlocked audiobook does not use the included monthly listening allocation.

Check whether your plan includes audiobook hours
Plan entitlements depend on market and plan type. On Spotify’s US support pages, Premium Individual includes 15 hours per month from the subscriber catalog. Premium Family and Duo include the allowance for the plan manager only; Premium Student is not eligible. Spotify’s separate Audiobooks Access plan also provides 15 hours per month from the subscriber catalog alongside ad-supported music and podcasts, and Spotify lists that plan as US-only. These are US plan terms, not a promise that every Spotify account or Premium tier includes audiobook time.
- Included hours renew with the next billing period. Unused hours expire, and Spotify says it does not refund unused or expired included hours.
- Spotify measures use against the audiobook’s normal duration, so faster playback does not make the monthly allocation last longer by that measure.
- Spotify says eligible users can extend audiobook listening with monthly add-ons or one-time top-ups. Availability and conditions vary; check the current offer in your account.
- Spotify’s purchasing guidance says top-up hours are valid for 12 months from purchase.
- Family and Duo members other than the plan manager do not receive the plan’s included hours. Spotify describes separate hour purchases for members, subject to the available add-on or top-up option.
For current eligibility and account-specific options, consult Spotify’s Premium audiobook plan guidance and top-up purchasing guidance.

Spotify’s audiobook catalog and access options vary by country, and not every title is available through both the included catalog and individual unlock. Spotify’s support availability list, accessed in 2026, names 22 audiobook markets: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The list indicates market-level availability, not that every title or access route is offered in each market. Check Spotify’s audiobook availability information and the options shown on your account. If a title is missing, try searching for the author or browsing the same genre.
