To see which security patch is installed on a Galaxy Z Fold, open Settings > About phone > Software information and read the date beside Android security patch level. To check whether an update is available, use Settings > Software update > Download and install.
Find the security patch date installed on your Fold
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone.
- Tap Software information.
- Read the date beside Android security patch level. Samsung documents the Software information route, and Google’s Android help corroborates the field name: Samsung: How to update your Galaxy phone or tablet; Google: Check and update your Android version.
The security patch level is distinct from the Android version and build number. The date identifies the patch level shown on your device; by itself, it does not establish that your Fold has the newest patch Samsung has released for every model and market.

Check whether an update is available
- Return to Settings.
- Tap Software update.
- Tap Download and install, then follow any on-screen prompts.
Depending on the model, carrier, and software version, the update option or a prompt may instead say Check for updates, Check for system updates, or Check for software updates. Samsung notes that some carriers may require Wi-Fi to check for or install updates; if the check fails, retry while connected to Wi-Fi. Samsung’s update instructions describe these menu variations and requirements.

If the phone says it is up to date, that means its update checker currently offers no update for that particular device configuration. It does not establish one universal latest patch date for all Galaxy Z Folds. Samsung says schedules and availability can vary by model, country, and network operator, and may change during review: Samsung India’s software update schedule guidance.

Fold generation, sales region, carrier, and software version can affect both the menus you see and update availability. Samsung’s own guidance says available screens and settings may vary by provider, software version, and model. For a Z Fold-specific software-details route, Samsung Gulf lists Settings > About Phone > Software Information: Samsung Gulf: How to check the Android version on my device. Samsung’s One UI 8 guide also notes model, carrier, and network variation; its Fold eligibility list is specific to Canada and should not be treated as a global list: Samsung Canada: One UI 8 guide.
