Microsoft recommends checking its storage view for large files and archives, but it does not document one universal size-sorting control that appears in every account. If the problem is a full computer drive rather than a full cloud quota, use Files On-Demand instead of deleting cloud files.
First check which storage is full
OneDrive cloud quota and your computer’s disk space are separate. Deleting a file from OneDrive can remove it from the cloud and affect synced devices. To keep the cloud copy while freeing local disk space, use Files On-Demand; to reduce cloud storage, delete unwanted items and remove them from OneDrive’s recycle bin.

Microsoft’s personal cloud-storage total can include OneDrive files and photos, Outlook.com pictures and attachments, and content in other Microsoft apps and services. If the overall personal storage number seems larger than your OneDrive files account for, check the storage details in Microsoft’s cloud-storage guidance. Work or school accounts may have different quotas, administrator policies, and retention rules.
Find the files using OneDrive storage

Sign in to the OneDrive account whose storage you want to manage. If you have personal and work or school accounts, confirm you are viewing the intended one.

Open OneDrive’s storage view and review the items taking up space. Microsoft recommends looking for large files and archives, including ZIP files. Its guidance does not establish that every account has the same option to sort all files by size, so use the controls available in your account rather than relying on a particular sort button.

If you cannot find an expected file through search, check Personal Vault directly. Personal Vault contents do not appear in search results, as Microsoft explains in its guide to finding missing OneDrive files.

Before deleting anything you may want later, download it or move a copy outside the OneDrive folder. An external drive is optional; it is only a way to retain a separate local copy.

Delete unwanted files and reclaim cloud storage

Select the unwanted file or folder in OneDrive on the web and choose Delete. If Delete is unavailable, you may not have permission to remove that item.

Check whether the item is shared before deleting it. Deleting a shared item can remove it for everyone it was shared with. A deletion from a synced OneDrive folder can also affect the cloud copy. See Microsoft’s OneDrive deletion instructions.

Open the OneDrive recycle bin. Restore any item you removed by mistake. To complete the cleanup, permanently delete the selected items or empty the OneDrive recycle bin.

Check the storage view again after cleanup. Microsoft says storage availability can take up to 24 hours to reflect the change. Emptying the Windows Recycle Bin or Mac Trash does not empty the OneDrive recycle bin.

If you only need more space on your computer
Do not delete OneDrive files just to make room on a PC if you want to keep them in the cloud. Files On-Demand lets you keep cloud files available in OneDrive without storing their full contents locally. Windows Storage Sense can make eligible cloud files online-only; files marked “Always keep on this device” are exempt from that online-only management. These options free local disk space, not OneDrive quota. Read Microsoft’s guides to freeing drive space in Windows and managing drive space with Storage Sense.

For large files already downloaded to the PC, File Explorer can show local folder contents in Details view and sort them by size. That is a way to find large files on the computer; it is not a confirmed method for sorting every file stored in OneDrive on the web.
Account and quota details to keep in mind

Personal Microsoft storage may aggregate content from multiple Microsoft services, not just OneDrive.

Work and school accounts may follow organization-specific quota and retention policies.

Deleted items may remain recoverable in the OneDrive recycle bin until they are permanently removed; clear that bin when your goal is to reclaim cloud storage.
