You can find it from LinkedIn’s profile or contact-information screens, then replace the long default address with a shorter custom URL such as linkedin.com/in/johnsmith.
The exact menu depends on whether you are using LinkedIn on a desktop, in the mobile app, or in a phone browser. Here are the current paths for each version.

Find your LinkedIn profile URL on desktop
- Open LinkedIn and sign in.
- Click Me in the top navigation bar.
- Select View Profile.
- On your profile page, look in the right-hand pane for Public profile & URL.
- Copy the address shown there. It normally begins with
www.linkedin.com/in.
If the right-hand pane is not visible, widen the browser window or look for the profile’s public URL section beside the main profile information. The URL may also use a country-specific domain, such as ca.linkedin.com/in/....
Find the URL in the LinkedIn mobile app
- Open the LinkedIn app and tap your profile photo.
- Tap your profile photo again to open your profile.
- Tap More next to Add section.
- Tap Contact info.
- Look under Your Profile and copy the URL.
This is the public profile address, not the URL of a post or the address displayed in the app’s share sheet.

Find the URL in a mobile browser
If you are using LinkedIn through Chrome, Safari, or another mobile browser:
- Tap your profile photo.
- Scroll to the Contact section.
- Under LinkedIn, locate your profile URL.
- Press and hold the address to copy it, or open it and copy it from the browser address bar.
Change your LinkedIn custom profile URL
On a desktop browser
- Click Me at the top of LinkedIn.
- Click View Profile.
- In the right-hand pane, click the Edit icon next to Public profile & URL.
- Under Edit your custom URL, click the Edit icon beside your current public profile URL.
- Edit only the final part of the address.
- Click Save.
For example, you can change:

https://www.linkedin.com/in/jordanmillerDo not remove the LinkedIn domain or the /in/ section. You are changing the customizable ending only.
In the LinkedIn mobile app
- Tap your profile photo.
- Tap your profile photo again to open your profile.
- Tap More next to Add section.
- Tap Contact info.
- Tap the Edit icon in the upper-right corner.
- On Edit contact info, tap Profile URL. LinkedIn opens Public profile settings.
- Under Edit your custom URL, tap the Edit icon.
- Enter the new ending and tap Save.
In a mobile browser
- Tap your profile photo.
- Scroll to Contact and tap the Edit icon.
- On Edit contact info, tap Profile URL.
- When LinkedIn opens Public profile settings, tap the Edit icon beside the custom URL.
- Type the new ending and tap Save.

LinkedIn applies the following restrictions to the editable part of the address:

A practical choice is your name without spaces, such as janedoe or alex-chen if LinkedIn accepts the hyphen in the field. If your name is already taken, add a professional identifier or number. Avoid temporary job titles, employer names, or graduation years that you may soon outgrow.

What happens to your old LinkedIn URL?
Changing the custom URL does not immediately hand your old address to another member. LinkedIn keeps the previous URL linked to your account for six months unless you manually unlink it. Other members cannot claim it during that period.
You can inspect older addresses from Public profile settings by opening See prior custom URLs that might be linked to you. Select unlink beside an old address if you no longer want it connected to your account.
After an old URL is unlinked, it remains unavailable to other members for seven days. After that period, someone else may claim it. LinkedIn says a previously used URL should normally be restorable immediately after a change; if restoration fails, contact LinkedIn Support.

Do not assume every old link will display your profile forever. A previously claimed address can eventually lead to a Profile Not Found page, particularly after it has been unlinked or released.

Why you may not see a public profile URL
Your profile is not publicly visible
The URL may not appear in the profile interface if your account does not have a public profile or if public visibility has been disabled.
To check this on desktop, open Me → View Profile, click the Edit icon beside Public profile & URL, and check Your profile’s public visibility.
In the mobile app, go to your profile photo → Settings → Visibility → Edit your public profile under Visibility of your profile & network. Turn on Your profile’s public visibility if you want people outside LinkedIn to access the public version.

You are looking in the wrong settings area
Settings → Visibility is where LinkedIn manages public-profile visibility. The current path for editing the URL itself starts from your profile and the Public profile & URL panel. If you only want to rename the address, do not search through every option in Settings.

The custom name is unavailable
LinkedIn does not make unavailable custom URLs available on request. Try a different spelling, an initial, or a relevant number. Because capitalization does not distinguish URLs, changing johnsmith to JohnSmith will not create a new available address.
Search engines still show the old information
Changing the LinkedIn URL or profile content does not instantly update Google, Bing, Yahoo, or other search engines. LinkedIn says those services can take several weeks or months to refresh their results, and LinkedIn does not control their timing.

- The assigned, non-custom URL is displayed under Assigned URL cannot be changed in Public profile settings.
- Changing the country listed on your profile can change the domain portion of your public URL. Existing URLs should continue to work.
- Additional language versions use the same public profile URL, with a language field appended to the address, such as
frfor a French profile. - A public profile may show only a limited preview to visitors who are not signed in or are not LinkedIn members.
- After an account is closed, its custom public profile URL becomes available 180 days after the closure date.
Verify the new link before sharing it
- Copy the new URL from LinkedIn after saving it.
- Open a private or incognito browser window.
- Paste the address and load it while signed out of LinkedIn.
- Confirm that the profile preview and name are correct.
- Update the link anywhere you previously used it, including your résumé, email signature, portfolio, website, and job applications.
Testing while signed out matters because a link may work for you through your logged-in session even when public visibility is disabled or only a limited profile preview is available to other people.

Where is my LinkedIn profile URL in the app?
Tap your profile photo, tap it again, choose More next to Add section, then tap Contact info. Your public URL appears under Your Profile.

Can I change my LinkedIn URL from Settings?
The URL-edit process currently starts from your profile: Me → View Profile → Edit beside Public profile & URL. Settings → Visibility → Edit your public profile is used to control public visibility, not as the main URL-edit path.
How many times can I change my LinkedIn custom URL?
LinkedIn allows up to five changes within six months. After the fifth change, another change is blocked for six months.
What should I do if the LinkedIn URL I want is taken?
Choose another variation. LinkedIn assigns custom URLs on a first-come, first-served basis and does not make unavailable URLs available on request.

Does changing my LinkedIn name change my custom URL?
No. A custom URL is edited separately through Edit your custom URL. LinkedIn distinguishes it from the automatically assigned URL, which can change when profile details such as your name are updated.
Can someone else immediately claim my old LinkedIn URL?
Normally no. The old custom URL remains linked to your account for six months unless you unlink it. Once unlinked, it remains unavailable for seven days before another member may claim it.
