To put copied cell contents into Google Sheets without bringing over the source formatting, copy the cells, select the destination, then choose Edit > Paste special > Values only. On desktop, the shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+V on PC or ChromeOS, or Command+Shift+V on Mac. This command works within a single spreadsheet.

Google notes that some shortcuts may not work with every language or keyboard. If yours does not work, use the Edit menu or check Sheets’ keyboard-shortcut list: Google Sheets keyboard shortcuts.
Fill a cell down through a range
If you want to repeat the top cell in the cells below it, use Fill down. Select the top cell together with the cells beneath it, then run the command. This is a fill operation, not the same as pasting copied contents with Values only.

When Values only is unavailable or behaves differently
The destination is in another spreadsheet
Google’s Paste special instructions limit the feature to copying and pasting within a single spreadsheet. If the source and destination are in separate spreadsheet files, this documented menu workflow may not be available. Google’s copy-and-paste help describes the scope.

You need more than the copied text
Values only is described as pasting only the text from the original range. Google lists options such as formulas only and data validation only separately, so choose the option that matches what you need rather than assuming Values only preserves or removes every kind of cell content or metadata. The available choices are described in Google’s Paste special help.
A keyboard shortcut does not respond
Use Edit > Paste special > Values only for the paste operation, or select Fill down from the relevant Sheets menu for a fill operation. You can also consult Google’s shortcut reference, since support can vary with keyboard and language: Google Sheets keyboard shortcuts.
