How to Turn Up the Volume on Wireless Earbuds

Turn up wireless earbud volume from your device, a supported earbud gesture, or a configured companion-app control. The right method depends on the exact model.

Start by raising the connected phone, tablet, or computer’s media volume. If that does not work—or you want to adjust volume from the earbuds—check the controls for your exact earbud model: swipe gestures, touch-and-hold actions, and voice commands vary by model and may need to be set up in the companion app.

How do I turn up earbud volume quickly?

  1. Make sure audio is playing through the earbuds, then raise the connected device’s media volume using its volume buttons or on-screen slider. Media volume controls playback; ringtone or notification volume may be a separate setting.

  2. If you want to use the earbuds, identify their exact model and generation. Look up its current manufacturer instructions or companion-app settings before trying a gesture: the same brand can use different controls across generations.

  3. Try only the documented gesture for that model. If it controls another function, check whether volume must be assigned in the app. The connected device’s media-volume control remains the fallback.

Why is earbud volume changing on its own?

One documented example is Adaptive Sound on Pixel Buds (2020) and Pixel Buds A-Series. On Android, this feature subtly adjusts volume in response to sustained environmental noise. A manual volume adjustment temporarily disables it. This behavior is specific to those models and should not be assumed for other Pixel Buds or earbuds. See Google’s Adaptive Sound instructions.
