Install aa-daily-reflections, create a DailyReflections client, then call getToday() or getReflection(month, day). The client returns the reflection’s text and metadata; your app is responsible for safely rendering those fields and deciding what content to show.
Install the package and fetch an entry
In your Node.js project, install the package with npm:

npm install aa-daily-reflections
The project README documents a CommonJS API suitable for a Node.js app using require:
const { DailyReflections } = require('aa-daily-reflections');
const reflections = new DailyReflections();
async function loadToday() {
try {
const reflection = await reflections.getToday();
console.log(reflection.title);
console.log(reflection.quote);
console.log(reflection.reference);
console.log(reflection.reflection);
} catch (error) {
console.error('Could not load the reflection:', error.message);
}
}
loadToday();
Call getToday() when the app should retrieve the current day’s entry. To request a particular calendar date instead, call getReflection(month, day); for example, await reflections.getReflection(6, 25) requests June 25. The API accepts the month and day as separate arguments.

Choose a language
English is the default. The README lists Spanish (es) and French (fr) as additional choices. Pass the language code to the constructor when creating the client, or change the existing client’s language with setLanguage().
const { DailyReflections } = require('aa-daily-reflections');
const spanishReflections = new DailyReflections('es');
const reflection = await spanishReflections.getToday();
Use the same date methods after selecting a language. Choose the language deliberately for the view or user preference your app supports; the package does not provide a language picker or user interface.

Display the fields returned by the API
The documented reflection object includes the following fields. Use the metadata to provide context for the text rather than displaying only the quotation.
| Field | What it represents |
|---|---|
title |
The entry’s title. |
date |
The entry’s date. |
day |
The day value. |
month |
The month value. |
monthName |
The month name. |
quote |
The entry’s quotation. |
reference |
The source reference, described as a book and page. |
reflection |
The reflection text. |
copyright |
Copyright information returned with the entry. |
A server-rendered page or browser UI could present the title and date first, followed by the quote, source reference, reflection, and copyright notice. That layout is an app design choice, not a component supplied by the library. Render fetched text through your framework’s normal escaping or safe-output mechanism; do not treat text from an API response as trusted HTML.

Handle invalid dates and retrieval failures
The README demonstrates handling failures with try/catch and gives different error-message examples for invalid dates and network or API failures. Check the requested month and day before making a date-specific call, and handle rejected requests so the app can show an appropriate fallback or retry option.
Do not make application logic depend on a stable error class or an exact error-message contract: the README documents examples, not a guaranteed error taxonomy. Its runtime support and the upstream service’s current behavior have not been independently verified here.

Runtime notes and alternatives
The package README lists Node.js 16.x, 18.x, 20.x, and 22.x. It says Node.js 18 and later have built-in fetch; on Node.js 16, the package will try to use node-fetch if available or provide an error. These are the maintainer’s documented compatibility notes, not an independent runtime test. Consult the project README for its current examples and package guidance.

That is an option for terminal retrieval; use the JavaScript or TypeScript API for integration in an application.
Copyright and responsible use
The package project’s README says: “This is an unofficial library. The Daily Reflections content is copyrighted by Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc.” It advises respecting AA.org’s terms and avoiding excessive requests. Accessing text through this wrapper does not establish permission to republish the full content in your app. Consider what you display and how you use the returned copyright and source-reference fields before making content available to others.
