Best for psychological dread: SILENT HILL 2
PlayStation presents SILENT HILL 2 as a remake of the 2001 survival-horror game. Its central hook is personal rather than military: James Sunderland goes to Silent Hill after a letter arrives from his wife, who has died. The remake brings the familiar story to PS5 and expands locations.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Choose it if oppressive atmosphere, psychological horror, and a character-driven mystery matter more to you than a combat-first experience. The US PlayStation Store lists a PS5 Standard Edition and a Deluxe Edition. The digital Deluxe Edition includes a digital artbook, digital soundtrack, and a Pyramid Head mask item; those digital extras do not establish what is included with any physical disc.
#1 Best Overall
- Includes the original Blood along with the Plasma Pak and Cryptic Passage add-ons. Fold-out poster included inside.
- Remastered Cutscenes. Including new Marrow scenario. Rebuilt from the original source code. Bug fixes for the original levels. High-resolution support, including 4K monitors. Customizable controller gamepad support.
- Rewritten netcode supporting up to 8 players. Local split-screen and online co-op. CD and MIDI music support.

- English voice and English, French (France), German, Italian, and Spanish text languages.
Best for sci-fi survival: Dead Space
Dead Space remakes the 2008 science-fiction horror game. Isaac Clarke arrives aboard the USG Ishimura on a repair mission and finds the ship overtaken by Necromorphs. PlayStation’s description emphasizes making weapons from materials found aboard the vessel and fighting by dismembering enemies.
That setup makes Dead Space the clearest pick if you want survival horror in a hostile spaceship, with resourceful weapon use and a sci-fi setting rather than a haunted town or rural village.
Rank #2
- Thalassophobia: The first horror game set entirely underwater, where vertical exploration and environmental physics add new layers of tension. Leveraging the fear of deep waters to deliver an intense, profound, and novel horror experience.
- Narrative Exploration with Choices: Communicate with your brother Reed through a fully Spanish-voiced walkie-talkie system as you unravel the secrets hidden in the depths. Solve unique, unsettling challenges based on inquisitorial tortures to unveil the mansion's mysteries. Avoid and overcome a monstrous entity with a tragic past, trapped within the manor for centuries.
- Decisions That Shape Your Fate: Your actions matter. Choices you make influence how Alice's story unfolds and concludes.
- Languages: Voice - English, Spanish (Spain), and Catalan. Text - English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish (Spain), Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Catalan.
Best for a heavier combat emphasis: Resident Evil 4
Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 is a ground-up remake of the 2005 survival-horror game. Leon S. Kennedy’s rescue mission takes him to rural Spain, where infected villagers stand between him and the President’s daughter. PlayStation highlights its intense combat scenarios, making this the shortlist’s strongest fit if you want frequent action alongside horror and survival.

- Amazon Exclusive - 2 sided poster included in every game!
- Grace Ashcroft, an FBI intelligence analyst who is introverted and easily scared, representing a new type of character for the Resident Evil series. Grace will experience horror from the same perspective as the player as she learns to overcome her fears throughout the course of the story.
- For the first time ever in Resident Evil history, players will be able to freely switch between both first- and third-person perspectives throughout the game.
- An Anniversary to Remember: With March 2026 marking the Resident Evil series’ 30-year anniversary, Resident Evil Requiem marks its own milestone in the franchise.
- Pre-orders for Resident Evil Requiem are now open, with the bonus of Grace’s costume: Apocalypse. Please note that the picture weapon does not come with the costume, but it can be obtained in-game.
Best story-first adjacent pick: The Last of Us Part I
The Last of Us Part I is better described here as narrative-led survival action than as a pure survival-horror recommendation. Its focus is Joel and Ellie’s journey through a dangerous world. The PS5 remake includes Left Behind, the prequel chapter, and PlayStation describes updates to gameplay, controls, accessibility options, visual fidelity, and DualSense features.
Consider it if a character-led story and tense survival situations are more important to you than the genre’s more traditional horror structures.
Rank #4

- Supernatural: Nightmares have awoken in the depths. With your sanity slipping, you become vulnerable to the twisted visions and Eldritch abominations that attack your body and mind.
- Going Old School: Created as a love letter to the classics by a micro studio founded by two brothers with a lifelong passion for the genre.
- Fight For Your Life: Soldiers are hunting you with maximum aggression and unearthly horrors stalk your every move. Use a variety of upgradable weaponry to survive close quarter fights in destructible environments. Keep your wits as you face nightmarish visions and creatures. Explore the remains of research stations, investigating emails, PDA’s and survivor accounts to unravel a dark conspiracy.
Should survival-horror fans consider Alan Wake 2?
Yes, if you are interested in psychological storytelling and are comfortable with a neighboring genre rather than a straightforward survival-horror pick. GamesRadar+ characterizes Alan Wake 2 as a psychological thriller and recommends it to fans of survival-horror games such as Resident Evil. That is the publication’s editorial view, not an objective classification or consensus.
