To factory reset a Google Home or Nest speaker, identify its exact model, then use the physical button or touch control listed below. A reset cannot be started by voice or in the Google Home app, and it irreversibly clears the device’s data and disconnects it from everyone in the home. If you only need to restart the speaker or update its Wi-Fi, try those less destructive options first.
Before you reset: decide whether you need a reboot, a Wi-Fi change, or a factory reset
A factory reset returns the device to its default settings. Google says it cannot be undone, clears device data, and disconnects the device from all members in the home. Some basic device data may remain connected to the home; this does not mean that all Google account or cloud data is erased. Google’s factory reset guide has the complete data details.

If the speaker is unresponsive, try a reboot first
A reboot restarts the speaker without performing a factory reset. Google says to either unplug the device for one minute and reconnect it, or open its device settings in the Google Home app and choose Reboot. See Google’s reboot instructions.
If only your Wi-Fi details changed, try setup again in the app
For a new network name, password, or router, Google recommends forgetting the saved network in the Google Home app and adding the device again. Use a factory reset if the app workflow fails, an error prevents you from forgetting the network, or you cannot change the network settings. Follow Google’s Wi-Fi change instructions.

How to Factory Reset a Google Home or Nest Speaker
Check the model name and locate its control before you begin: reset controls and hold times differ by model. Follow the matching row, and keep holding through the confirmation cue. Google’s times are approximate guidance, not a guarantee that every device will respond identically. These steps come from Google’s reset guide.

The Hub models are displays rather than speakers, but Google includes them in the same reset instructions.

Prepare model-specific data before resetting a Nest display
Nest Hub Max: save video history
Google advises saving any important video history and removing the Nest Hub Max from the Google Home app before resetting it. Resetting deletes associated data such as video history.

Set up the device again after the reset
After a factory reset, set up the device again in the Google Home app. For Wi-Fi problems, use Google’s connection instructions to add the device and follow the setup prompts. App screens can change, so follow the current prompts rather than relying on an older screen-by-screen walkthrough.

Do not substitute a different model’s button sequence or assume a reboot will complete a factory reset. Google provides a separate troubleshooting page for issues when resetting a Google speaker; use it for the affected model if the reset does not complete.
