Oura Ring battery life depends on the model, size, settings, activity and battery age. For a new ring, Oura estimates 6–9 days for Ring 5, 5–8 days for Ring 4 and up to seven days for Generation 3. If yours runs down much sooner or will not charge, check the model-specific dock, cable and power source before assuming the ring is faulty.
How long should an Oura Ring battery last?
Oura’s current estimates are for new devices, not guaranteed runtimes. Size, settings, feature use, activity, age and individual usage can all affect how long a charge lasts. Oura’s Ring 4 estimate comes from tests of new, unworn rings worn all day, with Automatic Activity Detection and Activity Heart Rate engaged for one hour daily, Blood Oxygen Sensing disabled, and eight hours of sleep tracked nightly. The tested sizes were 8–10, and rings were charged fully before being drained to zero. Oura says blood oxygen sensing may reduce runtime by up to two days depending on sleep duration; activity heart-rate use can also affect it.

These figures are Oura’s published estimates, last updated in 2026; actual results vary. Rechargeable battery capacity also declines with age. Oura does not publish a universal replacement threshold or a user battery-replacement procedure.

Charge in short, regular sessions
Oura says its lithium-polymer battery performs best when kept around 25–80%. You do not need to hit those exact percentages every time: regular top-ups while showering, cooking or working at a desk are acceptable. A charge can take 20–80 minutes depending on the ring’s starting battery level.

Try to have at least 30% battery before bed. Oura ties that threshold to preserving the night’s sleep insights: if the ring runs out, the app may not provide a Sleep or Readiness Score or the sleep-stage, HRV, respiratory-rate and resting-heart-rate breakdowns for that night. Enable low-battery notifications in the Oura app if you want an alert before bedtime.
Use Airplane Mode only when you can do without Bluetooth
Airplane Mode temporarily stops Bluetooth communication and may reduce battery use when you do not need the app. App notifications will not appear while it is enabled.

Keep firmware current, but do not expect it to restore an old battery
Oura says firmware updates may include battery-performance improvements. For an update, keep the app current, enable Bluetooth and make sure the ring is above 30%. After updating, Oura suggests two cycles of charging to full and using the ring down to about 25%, backing up data after each cycle. This is a manufacturer-recommended procedure, not a proven repair for a worn battery.
Avoid prolonged extremes and long periods on the charger
- Do not leave the ring on its charger for more than a week or keep charging it for extended periods after it is full.
- Avoid prolonged exposure below −20°C (−4°F) or above 60°C (140°F).
- For storage longer than two weeks, Oura recommends charging above 50% and enabling Power Saving Mode.

Fix a ring that will not charge on its dock
Oura chargers are specific to the ring’s generation and size. A dock that looks similar may not fit or charge your ring correctly; use the dock made for your exact model and size. Oura specifies a suitable external 5V DC supply compliant with EN 62368-1 for the USB charging cord.
- Check the dock without the ring. Connect it to power and inspect the light. If it does not illuminate, rotate both ends of the cable, try another compatible USB power source such as a USB wall plug, laptop or power brick, then test another USB-C cable.
- Seat the ring in the correct orientation. On Ring 4, align the dimple with the dock light. On Generation 3, position the sensor bumps opposite the light, above the USB-C port.
- Read the dock light. On supported docks, pulsing white means the ring is charging and green means it is fully charged. Blinking blue may mean the ring has not yet been paired or was factory reset.
- Try a known-good compatible dock. If the ring still does not charge after checking orientation, cable and power, the comparison can help distinguish a dock or power-path fault from a ring problem.
For additional model-specific checks, follow Oura’s charging-dock troubleshooting guide and charger instructions. If these checks fail, contact Oura support or obtain the correct standalone charging set; do not try a random universal ring dock.

Fix charging problems with an Oura charging case
A charging case has its own battery and indicators. First confirm the ring and case are set up and connected in the Oura app, the case has power, and their software and firmware are current. If the ring will not charge in the case, test it on the correct charging dock. That comparison helps identify whether the issue is specific to the case or affects charging on both accessories.

If the case itself will not charge, rotate the USB-C cable ends, try another cable, and test another power source or adapter. Oura documents these case LED meanings:

Charging a Ring 5 case wirelessly
Most standard Qi 1.3 pads are supported for charging Ring 5 cases. Check that the pad has power and adjust the case’s position on it. If wireless case charging still fails, use USB-C. This charges the case; the ring itself is not charged directly on a Qi pad.
When the ring charges but the app will not connect
A connection problem can affect app updates or notices without proving that the battery or charger is defective. Keep the phone near the case and open its lid to help start a connection. If that does not work, use Oura’s Bluetooth reset sequence:

- Turn off Bluetooth on the phone and force-close the Oura app.
- Turn Bluetooth back on, then remove the ring from the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
- Reopen the Oura app and pair the ring again.

When to contact Oura support
If the ring fails to charge on a known-good dock that matches its generation and size after you have checked the cable, power source and seating, contact Oura support. Battery capacity naturally declines with age, but Oura does not provide a public universal threshold for replacement or instructions for replacing the internal battery yourself. Avoid DIY battery repair; a model-specific accessory fault, connection issue and worn ring battery need different remedies.
