Hitachi Construction Machinery’s FY2025 revenue increased, but adjusted operating income and net income attributable to owners of the parent declined. That divergence is a better starting point for evaluating its stock than a buy, hold or sell label. To decide whether the shares are attractive, check the quality of earnings, segment performance, cash flow, balance-sheet capacity and delivery against management’s targets—then calculate valuation using a share price dated to your analysis. The available FY2025 figures do not establish whether the stock is currently undervalued because they do not include a share price or current valuation multiples.
What Hitachi Construction Machinery’s FY2025 results say
Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market, code 6305) reported results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026. Its FY2025 consolidated results filing, published April 24, 2026, shows a company that grew sales without growing its headline operating and parent-attributable profits.

| FY2025 measure | Reported result | Year-over-year change or context |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | ¥1,405,493 million | Up 2.5% |
| Adjusted operating income | ¥132,951 million | Down 8.3% |
| Net income attributable to owners of the parent | ¥73,193 million | Down 10.1% |
| Net cash from operating activities | ¥164,223 million | Compared with ¥143,932 million in FY2024 |
| Cash and cash equivalents at year end | ¥141,456 million | Balance at March 31, 2026 |
| Total equity and equity ratio | ¥955,670 million; 48.5% | Year-end balance-sheet measures |
| Basic earnings per share | ¥344.06 | FY2025 reported figure |
| Equity per share | ¥4,231.37 | FY2025 reported figure |
| Dividend per share | ¥175 | FY2025 reported dividend |
These figures are company-reported, rounded to millions of yen where applicable. Revenue growth alone does not establish improved profitability: adjusted operating income fell more quickly than sales rose, and net income attributable to parent shareholders also declined. A first-pass calculation using reported revenue and adjusted operating income gives an adjusted operating margin of about 9.5% for FY2025 (¥132,951 million divided by ¥1,405,493 million). Treat that as a diagnostic calculation, not a management-defined additional metric.

Break down the business before judging the headline
Hitachi Construction Machinery reports a Construction Machinery segment and a Specialized Parts & Service segment. The first includes hydraulic excavators, ultra-large hydraulic excavators and wheeled loaders, along with associated parts. Specialized Parts & Service covers services, production and distribution parts outside that segment definition. The segments have different revenue drivers, so consolidated growth can obscure where margins are improving or deteriorating.
| Reported segment | FY2024 revenue | FY2025 revenue | FY2024 adjusted operating income | FY2025 adjusted operating income | FY2025 calculated margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Construction Machinery | ¥1,244,000 million | ¥1,268,594 million | ¥129,842 million | ¥121,481 million | About 9.6% |
| Specialized Parts & Service | ¥135,642 million | ¥145,226 million | ¥10,552 million | ¥11,470 million | About 7.9% |
Construction Machinery remained the largest reported segment. Its revenue rose from ¥1,244,000 million to ¥1,268,594 million, while adjusted operating income declined from ¥129,842 million to ¥121,481 million. The resulting FY2025 margin calculation is about 9.6%, compared with about 10.4% in FY2024. For an investor, the key question is not simply whether equipment sales rise, but whether price, mix and cost performance can sustain attractive margins as sales change.
Specialized Parts & Service grew in both reported revenue and adjusted operating income: revenue rose from ¥135,642 million to ¥145,226 million, and adjusted operating income from ¥10,552 million to ¥11,470 million. Its calculated margin was about 7.9%, slightly above roughly 7.8% in FY2024. This is a useful counterpoint to the equipment segment, but one year of movement does not prove that parts and service are immune to cycles or that their growth rate will continue.
Keep mining product revenue separate from segment revenue
The company reported ¥272,029 million in mining machinery product revenue for FY2025. This is a product-category figure that can overlap with segment reporting; do not add it to the Construction Machinery or Specialized Parts & Service revenue totals. Use it as a lens on product exposure, then consult the company’s segment definitions and disclosures before drawing conclusions about contribution or profitability.

Construction equipment demand depends on customers’ decisions to buy and use machinery, while mining demand is exposed to investment decisions linked to the mining business. Parts and service provide another source of activity. Evaluate those exposures separately rather than treating the company as a single, uniform equipment-sales stream. The figures do not supply a cycle forecast; current company materials are needed to judge regional demand, customer investment and changes in product mix.
Test whether earnings translate into cash
Operating cash flow increased to ¥164,223 million in FY2025 from ¥143,932 million in FY2024. That is a positive data point alongside declining adjusted operating income and parent-attributable net income, but a single year cannot establish durable cash generation. Cash flow can move with working capital and other timing effects, so examine several fiscal years and read the cash-flow statement rather than extrapolating the increase.
A rough comparison of FY2025 operating cash flow with net income attributable to owners of the parent is about 2.24 times (¥164,223 million divided by ¥73,193 million). This is not a formal cash-conversion ratio: operating cash flow is a consolidated cash-flow measure, while the earnings figure is attributable to parent owners, and working-capital movements can affect the relationship. Use it only as a prompt to reconcile the two statements.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat to inspect in the cash-flow and investment disclosures
- Compare operating cash flow with operating income and net income over multiple years. Investigate large differences instead of assuming that accounting earnings or cash flow alone represent recurring performance.
- Track working-capital balances and movements in the full report. A strong cash-flow year can reflect collection, inventory or payment timing that may not repeat.
- Review capital spending alongside operating cash flow. Equipment makers need to invest in their business; cash remaining after necessary investment is more informative for shareholder returns than operating cash flow by itself.
- Check the balance-sheet and financing disclosures for debt and lease obligations. The reported cash balance and equity ratio are useful context, not a substitute for reviewing obligations and their maturities.
Assess the balance sheet and shareholder returns together
At March 31, 2026, the company reported ¥141,456 million in cash and cash equivalents, total equity of ¥955,670 million and an equity ratio of 48.5%. These figures provide a starting point for assessing financial capacity. They do not show the full picture of liquidity or leverage in isolation: compare cash with debt and lease obligations, consider capital spending needs, and use the complete balance sheet and notes.

The company reported a FY2025 dividend of ¥175 per share and projected a FY2026 dividend of ¥190 per share. The latter is a forecast, not a dividend already declared or paid. An investor assessing income should distinguish the two and verify later company announcements for any change. A projected dividend is not guaranteed, and its prospective yield cannot be calculated without a dated share price.
Equity per share was ¥4,231.37 and basic earnings per share was ¥344.06 for FY2025. These company-reported per-share figures can anchor valuation calculations once a dated price is available. They do not independently indicate that the shares are cheap: valuation depends on the price paid and on whether the earnings and book value are sustainable and comparable.
Use management’s targets as execution checkpoints
Hitachi Construction Machinery’s FY2026 forecast was ¥1,430,000 million in revenue, ¥140,000 million in adjusted operating income and ¥80,000 million in net income attributable to owners of the parent. Relative to FY2025 reported results, those figures imply forecast increases of about 1.7% in revenue, 5.3% in adjusted operating income and 9.3% in parent-attributable net income. These percentages are calculations from the company’s reported figures and forecast; they describe the scale of the target, not a prediction that it will be achieved.
Use the forecast as a scorecard: compare subsequent actual results with each measure, note where performance is ahead or behind, and investigate the reasons in the company’s disclosures. The FY2026 second-quarter results had not been published as of October 14, 2026. The company’s investor-relations page scheduled release of results for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, for October 29, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. Japan Standard Time; do not treat the scheduled release as reported performance.

The company also said its three-year LANDCROS 2028 plan concludes in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2029. It identified North American business, Latin American business, mining, and parts and service as four key businesses, with a medium- to long-term goal of establishing a top-three industry position. That is management’s objective, not an independent forecast or an achieved market position. Track disclosed results in each area and look for measurable evidence of progress rather than treating the strategy’s announcement as proof of future growth.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Separate recurring performance from disclosed unusual items
The FY2025 filing includes compensation income relating to a supplier’s domestic engine-emissions certification violations, domestic engine-certification-related losses, business-structure reform expenses, and restructuring losses that include estimated losses related to the planned sale of ECCO Equipment Company, LLC. These are company-disclosed items that matter when judging how representative reported net income is of ongoing operations.
Read the relevant notes and compare adjusted operating income with reported income and expenses below that measure. Do not assume every listed item will recur, but do not simply exclude an item from valuation because it is described as unusual. Check subsequent company filings for updates; the FY2025 disclosure alone does not establish a particular legal outcome or the amount or timing of future costs.

How to decide whether the stock is undervalued
There is no defensible current undervaluation verdict from the FY2025 financial figures alone. A valuation needs a share price tied to a specific date, plus a consistent share count and financial inputs. The figures available here provide reported EPS, equity per share, earnings and cash-flow context, but not the contemporaneous market price or calculated multiples. Without that price, it is not possible to state a current P/E, price-to-book ratio, dividend yield or enterprise-value multiple.
Best Value
- Choose a valuation date. Record the closing share price for that date and use the same date for market capitalization and yield calculations. The company’s official financial-information page links market data and historical financial data.
- Calculate market capitalization consistently. Multiply the dated share price by the applicable shares outstanding. Confirm the share-count basis in the company’s filings and align it with the earnings-per-share period being used.
- Check earnings valuation. Divide price by earnings per share for a P/E, but do not rely mechanically on one year’s ¥344.06 basic EPS. Compare with normalized earnings across a cycle and account for the FY2025 decline in parent-attributable net income.
- Check book valuation. Compare the dated share price with FY2025 equity per share of ¥4,231.37 for a price-to-book measure. Interpret it in light of asset quality, profitability, returns on equity and the cyclical risks of the business.
- Check operating value and cash generation. If calculating enterprise value to operating profit, define enterprise value consistently using market capitalization, debt, cash and other relevant claims. For a free-cash-flow yield, use operating cash flow less capital expenditure, not operating cash flow alone, and make clear which period and adjustments are included.
- Check dividend yield only against a dated price. Divide the relevant declared or paid annual dividend per share by the share price for the same date. Keep the FY2026 projected ¥190 separate from the FY2025 ¥175 dividend actually reported.
- Compare like with like. Use consistent fiscal periods and accounting measures when comparing the company with peers or its own history. Consider construction-versus-mining exposure, recurring parts and service, margin sensitivity, cash conversion, capital intensity, geography, balance-sheet capacity and dividend policy. Avoid judging a cyclical business using peak earnings as though they were normal.
A low multiple is not automatically evidence of undervaluation. It may reflect expectations for weaker margins, a cyclical downturn, capital needs or execution risk. Conversely, a higher multiple may be justified only if expected cash generation and returns support it. The investor’s task is to test the assumptions embedded in the price against normalized performance and disclosed risks, rather than convert an analyst rating into a valuation conclusion.
Risks and ownership facts to put in context
For current diligence, monitor regional demand, mining investment cycles, foreign-exchange effects, competitive pricing, parts availability, capital intensity and execution of the LANDCROS strategy. These are areas to investigate in current company materials, not established explanations for the FY2025 earnings decline. A useful evaluation records what changed, which disclosure supports the conclusion and whether the change affects revenue, margins, cash flow or valuation.
ITOCHU Corporation’s 2026 investor material reported that its shareholding ratio in Hitachi Construction Machinery increased from 20.4% to 33.4% after the transaction described there. Treat this as a disclosed ownership fact. The cited figure alone does not establish what governance rights, strategic effects or future transactions will follow; assess those matters from the relevant corporate disclosures rather than assuming an outcome.

A practical checklist before relying on a rating
- Does revenue growth translate into adjusted operating income growth, and what do company disclosures say about price, volume, mix, cost, currency and regional demand?
- Are segment margins and earnings moving in the direction suggested by consolidated results, or are different businesses diverging?
- Does operating cash flow remain supportive over multiple years after accounting for working capital and capital spending?
- Can the balance sheet support investment and shareholder returns after debt and lease obligations are considered?
- Are unusual income and expenses material to reported earnings, and have later filings updated the picture?
- Is the company meeting its FY2026 forecast and making measurable progress toward its LANDCROS 2028 priorities?
- Do valuation ratios use a dated share price, matching share count and normalized financial measures?
- Do comparisons reflect business mix and cycle exposure rather than an unsupported peer ranking?
An analyst rating can be a useful summary of someone else’s assumptions, but it is not a substitute for checking these inputs. The FY2025 results point to a clear question: can the company convert sales and strategic priorities into stronger, repeatable profits and cash generation? The answer requires subsequent results and a valuation built from dated market data.
