How to Evaluate CoreWeave’s Debt, Cash Flow, and GPU Lease Obligations

CoreWeave’s filings show a rapidly expanding balance sheet whose debt, data-center commitments and GPU-related infrastructure spending must be analyzed together. A sound assessment does not stop at EBITDA or a single net-debt figure: it reconciles reported borrowings, operating and finance leases, operating cash generation, capital expenditures, customer cash timing and available financing.

The direct answer: what the filings establish

At June 30, 2026, CoreWeave reported $35.6 billion of total indebtedness, up from $21.6 billion at December 31, 2025. The company also reported $10.0 billion of undrawn availability. Those are reported balances, not forecasts. Operating cash flow was positive, but infrastructure investment was substantially larger in both periods reviewed. Operating-lease liabilities also expanded sharply, creating a fixed cash claim that is separate from funded debt.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

The practical conclusion is that solvency depends on the timing and reliability of several cash sources at once: customer receipts and prepayments, operating cash flow, new debt or equity, undrawn facilities and the conversion of purchased GPU and data-center capacity into billable service. Any model that omits lease payments, growth capex or borrowing conditions can materially understate liquidity risk.

Measure December 31, 2025 June 30, 2026 How to use it
Total indebtedness $21.6 billion $35.6 billion Reported funded-debt balance; reconcile the components in the debt footnote.
Undrawn availability Not stated in the cited figures $10.0 billion Potential liquidity, subject to borrowing conditions, covenants and collateral requirements.
Operating-lease liabilities, present value $8.195 billion $16.319 billion Balance-sheet lease liability used in leverage analysis.
Finance-lease liabilities $254 million $221 million Debt-like obligation with a separate accounting presentation.
Undiscounted operating-lease payments $13.618 billion $29.135 billion Contractual cash payments before discounting; use for cash-timing analysis.

Do not call one of these figures “net debt” without stating which cash balances, restricted cash, finance leases and operating leases are included. A lender-style calculation may use funded debt less unrestricted cash; an enterprise-value analysis may add finance leases and, in a sensitivity case, operating-lease liabilities.

Build the debt schedule before calculating leverage

Separate the instruments

Use the latest Form 10-Q and Form 10-K debt notes to create one row for each borrowing. At minimum, classify:

  • Recourse term loans and other recourse borrowings.
  • Non-recourse project or facility debt.
  • Convertible notes.
  • Delayed-draw term-loan commitments.
  • Revolver borrowings and undrawn revolver capacity.
  • Any debt secured by GPUs, servers, receivables, data-center assets or restricted cash.

For every row, capture original principal, carrying value, maturity date, interest-rate basis, spread, amortization, mandatory cash sweeps, lockbox arrangements, collateral, guarantees, covenant tests and undrawn commitment fees. The June 30, 2026 summary establishes total indebtedness and $10.0 billion of undrawn availability, but the component balances, rates and maturity dates are not stated in the cited figures; they must be transcribed directly from the applicable filing before a maturity-wall conclusion is made.

Use more than one leverage definition

Calculate and label each version rather than presenting a universal ratio:

Measure Formula Question answered
Gross funded debt recourse debt + non-recourse debt + notes + drawn facilities How much principal is outstanding before cash offsets?
Debt net of unrestricted cash gross funded debt − unrestricted cash and eligible marketable securities What remains after immediately usable cash?
Debt including finance leases gross funded debt + finance-lease liabilities What are debt-like obligations with finance-lease treatment?
Debt including operating leases gross funded debt + finance leases + operating-lease liabilities How large is the broader fixed-claim burden?

Keep restricted cash out of the unrestricted-cash offset unless the debt documents allow it to fund general obligations. Project-level cash may be legally or operationally trapped even when it appears on the consolidated balance sheet.

How to identify the debt-maturity wall

A maturity wall is a dated schedule of principal repayments, not simply the total debt balance. Build a calendar from the debt footnote and credit agreements, grouping maturities by quarter for the next 24 months and by year thereafter. Include scheduled amortization, required cash sweeps, maturities of convertible notes, revolver expiration dates and any refinancing or extension options.

  1. Enter each instrument’s contractual principal maturity.
  2. Add mandatory amortization before the final maturity date.
  3. Mark whether the borrowing is recourse or non-recourse and identify the collateral pool.
  4. Separate a legal maturity from an expected repayment date if a cash-sweep or refinancing convention could accelerate repayment.
  5. Overlay interest-payment dates, commitment expirations and covenant-testing dates.
  6. Compare each period’s requirements with unrestricted cash, expected operating cash flow and availability that can actually be drawn at that date.

Do not infer a maturity wall from the $35.6 billion total alone. The cited figures do not provide a complete maturity-by-year table. A credible conclusion requires the individual maturities, covenant headroom and the conditions attached to the $10.0 billion of undrawn capacity.

Measure cash generation against the build-out

Use the statement of cash flows rather than EBITDA alone. CoreWeave reported the following consolidated cash flows:

Period Operating cash flow Investing cash flow Financing cash flow Reading
Year ended December 31, 2025 $3.058 billion provided $10.271 billion used $9.308 billion provided Operating cash covered only part of the investment outflow; financing supplied additional cash.
Six months ended June 30, 2026 $3.663 billion provided $14.874 billion used $13.985 billion provided Investment spending accelerated relative to operating cash generation during the half-year.

Calculate the funding gap

For each period, calculate operating cash flow − purchases of property and equipment. A negative result indicates the amount that must be funded by cash on hand, customer prepayments, asset sales, debt, equity or another financing source. The investing line can contain more than GPU purchases, so split capital expenditure into GPUs, networking, servers, switches, data-center construction and other property and equipment whenever the filing permits.

The 2025 Form 10-K states that the business requires substantial and growing capital expenditures and warns that debt service can reduce cash available for operations and capital expenditures. That warning matters because a high-growth infrastructure company can report positive operating cash flow while still needing repeated external funding to place new capacity into service.

Do not treat all customer cash as permanent funding

Customer prepayments can reduce near-term funding needs, but they also create performance obligations. Model when cash is collected, when GPUs and facilities are delivered, and when the related revenue and service costs occur. A backlog or contracted revenue figure is not the same as cash in the bank, and the cited filings do not establish that every future contract will convert to cash on schedule.

Model operating and finance leases separately

Present value versus undiscounted cash payments

Present-value lease liabilities are designed for balance-sheet accounting and leverage comparisons. Undiscounted payments show the contractual cash timing and therefore are more useful for a liquidity waterfall. Neither number alone answers whether cash will be sufficient.

Lease measure December 31, 2025 June 30, 2026 Interpretation
Operating-lease liability, present value $8.195 billion $16.319 billion Discounted balance-sheet obligation.
Finance-lease liability $254 million $221 million Debt-like lease obligation presented separately from operating leases.
Operating-lease payments, undiscounted $13.618 billion $29.135 billion Total remaining contractual payments before discounting.

At June 30, 2026, the lease note reported a 12-year weighted-average remaining operating-lease term and a 10% weighted-average discount rate. The long term means obligations extend well beyond the next refinancing cycle; the discount rate explains why the present value is lower than the undiscounted cash total.

Map the June 30, 2026 payment schedule

Payment period Undiscounted operating-lease payments
Remaining 2026 period $1.028 billion
2027 $2.116 billion
2028 $2.306 billion
2029 $2.373 billion
2030 $2.289 billion
Thereafter $19.023 billion
Total $29.135 billion

Include the operating-lease schedule in a contractual-obligation stress test even though operating leases are not identical to secured debt. A facility lease can remain payable when a site is underutilized, a customer delays deployment or GPU economics deteriorate. Finance-lease principal and interest should be modeled separately and then combined with operating-lease cash payments for the broad fixed-claim view.

Construct a twelve-month liquidity bridge

A useful bridge starts with cash that can actually be spent and ends with cash after unavoidable and discretionary uses. Build it monthly when maturities or construction milestones are concentrated.

Bridge line What to enter Control or question
Opening liquidity Unrestricted cash and eligible marketable securities Exclude restricted or trapped project cash unless it is releasable.
Operating inflow Collections from customers, less cash operating costs Use collection timing, not only recognized revenue.
Customer prepayments Contractually committed deposits expected in the period Test delivery conditions and concentration risk.
Debt service Interest, scheduled amortization and maturities Apply each instrument’s rate basis and covenant terms.
Operating leases Contractual payments from the lease schedule Use the undiscounted cash schedule for timing.
Finance leases Principal and interest payments Keep separate from operating-lease expense.
Maintenance capex Spending required to keep deployed capacity usable Do not assume all capex can be deferred without service impact.
Growth capex New GPUs, networking, servers, switches and facilities Phase spending by purchase order, delivery and energization.
Ending liquidity Opening liquidity plus inflows minus all listed uses Compare with minimum cash and covenant requirements.

After calculating ending liquidity, add only financing that is genuinely drawable. Compare the bridge with revolver and delayed-draw capacity, then check borrowing-base formulas, collateral tests, financial covenants, notice periods, remaining commitment fees and any restrictions on using proceeds for growth capex. The $10.0 billion of undrawn availability is not equivalent to $10.0 billion of cash until those conditions are satisfied.

Run downside cases that reflect infrastructure risk

Lower GPU utilization

Reduce billable utilization and revenue while leaving lease, debt-service and much of the facility cost unchanged. Track the utilization level at which operating cash flow no longer funds maintenance capex and interest.

Delayed data-center delivery

Push customer start dates and revenue collections out by one or more quarters while retaining equipment deposits, construction commitments and lease payments. This tests a timing mismatch rather than a permanent loss of demand.

Customer concentration or slower collections

Delay or haircut receipts from the largest customers and test whether prepayments are refundable, conditional or tied to future service. A contracted amount should not be treated as immediately available liquidity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Higher refinancing rates

Reprice floating-rate debt and assume maturing borrowings refinance at a higher spread. Show the effect on interest coverage and the amount of cash left for GPU purchases.

GPU collateral depreciation

Lower assumed residual values and test borrowing-base availability, potential collateral calls and asset-sale proceeds. GPUs can lose value faster than the contractual debt amortizes, creating a refinancing problem even when accounting earnings remain positive.

Receivables and construction overruns

Extend collection days and increase facility or interconnection costs. Stress both simultaneously because a delayed project can postpone customer cash while increasing the cash needed to complete the site.

The 2025 Form 10-K warns that insufficient cash resources could force CoreWeave to delay investment, sell assets, raise capital or restructure debt. Treat those as possible responses in a downside case, not as assumed outcomes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Compare CoreWeave with another infrastructure company on equal terms

Comparisons are meaningful only when the accounting and operating definitions match. Use the same axes for every company:

  • Gross debt and debt per deployed megawatt.
  • Recourse versus non-recourse borrowing and the assets securing each tranche.
  • Operating cash flow less capex, with capex split between maintenance and growth.
  • Operating- and finance-lease liabilities, including the payment schedule.
  • Customer concentration, prepayment structure and collection timing.
  • Undrawn liquidity after borrowing-base and covenant restrictions.
  • Average interest rate, maturity dates and refinancing exposure.
  • GPU age, utilization assumptions and residual-value estimates.

Do not compare adjusted EBITDA margins without reconciling depreciation, lease cost, stock compensation and customer-funded build-outs. A company that receives large customer deposits may show a different near-term cash profile from one that self-funds construction, even when both report similar revenue.

Common analytical mistakes

  • Using one net-debt number: State whether unrestricted cash, restricted cash, finance leases and operating leases are included.
  • Calling positive operating cash flow free cash flow: Subtract property-and-equipment purchases and identify the portion needed merely to maintain service.
  • Ignoring operating leases: Facility commitments can be fixed cash claims even when they are not presented as funded debt.
  • Counting undrawn commitments as cash: Verify collateral, covenants, expiration dates and draw conditions first.
  • Assuming backlog equals liquidity: Model billing, collection and delivery milestones.
  • Mixing dates: Keep December 31, 2025 balances separate from the six months ended June 30, 2026 cash-flow period.
  • Projecting refinancing as certain: Show the maturity and the funding source as separate lines until a committed facility exists.
  • Hiding uncertainty in a point estimate: Present base, downside and severe-downside cases with explicit assumptions.

A repeatable update process

  1. Download each new 10-Q or 10-K and roll forward debt, lease and cash-flow tables.
  2. Reconcile opening balances to prior filings and explain additions, repayments, conversions and lease modifications.
  3. Refresh the maturity calendar and the next-twelve-month liquidity bridge.
  4. Recalculate operating cash flow less capex and separate GPU, networking, server, switch and facility spending where disclosed.
  5. Update customer prepayment and receivable assumptions using the latest contract and collection disclosures.
  6. Re-run utilization, delivery-delay, rate, collateral-value and collection-delay scenarios.
  7. Check covenant headroom and available borrowing capacity after each major draw or asset deployment.

Keep an assumptions register beside the model. Label each input as a reported balance, a contractual term or a scenario assumption. The filings establish balances and payment schedules; they do not by themselves prove that every future GPU lease will be renewed, that backlog will convert to cash on schedule or that a particular refinancing outcome will occur.

Bottom line

Evaluating CoreWeave requires a cash-waterfall view of debt, leases and growth investment. Reported indebtedness reached $35.6 billion at June 30, 2026, while operating-lease payments extended to $29.135 billion undiscounted and infrastructure investment exceeded operating cash flow in the periods disclosed. The decisive questions are therefore timing and access: when customers pay, when capacity becomes productive, which obligations cannot be deferred, how much cash is unrestricted, and whether financing remains drawable under stress.
