Copy the key for your YouTube stream from YouTube Studio, then enter it in XSplit’s YouTube output if that output offers a Stream Key setup mode. YouTube uses the stream key as an encoder credential; if XSplit asks for a server URL as well, copy that separately from the same stream’s settings. XSplit’s current support guide confirms the YouTube output workflow, but its published steps do not establish the exact current clicks to the key field, so labels may differ by version.
Before you enter the key
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-streaming access requirements and XSplit’s YouTube Live guide, updated 2025-10-11.
- Open the YouTube event you intend to stream. A key belongs to the stream configuration you select, so avoid copying one from a different event.
- Keep the key private. YouTube describes stream keys as like the stream’s “password and address.” Anyone with access to it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel.
Copy the stream key from YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create or open the scheduled stream you want XSplit to send. In that stream’s Stream settings, copy the stream key.
- Copy the stream URL too if XSplit asks for a server or RTMP server address. The URL and key are separate values and belong in separate encoder fields.
YouTube’s Manage live stream settings explains where these credentials appear. Treat the key as sensitive; if it is exposed, reset it in the Live Control Room and replace the saved value in XSplit.

Enter the key in XSplit Broadcaster
- In XSplit Broadcaster, open Broadcast and select YouTube to configure a YouTube output. If no output has been configured, use Broadcast > Set up a new output and choose YouTube in the setup wizard; wording can vary between versions.
- In the output configuration, choose a Stream Key setup mode if one is offered. Paste the copied YouTube key into the field labeled Stream Key. If XSplit also requests a server address, paste the stream URL into its server/RTMP server field.
- If the installed YouTube output instead offers account sign-in or authorization, follow that flow; do not paste the key into an unrelated field. You can also use Custom RTMP when the integrated output is unavailable, provided the configuration supports the server URL and connection type you need.
- Save or finish the output setup. Select the YouTube output under Broadcast; XSplit’s broadcast details let you set items such as title, description, tags, category, privacy, latency and DVR.
- For a scheduled YouTube event, start the encoder in XSplit and check that its preview appears in YouTube Live Control Room. Then click Go live in YouTube if the event requires that separate final action.
XSplit’s YouTube Live instructions document the Broadcast-menu output workflow. The exact current Stream Key field path is not specified in that guide, so use the labels in the installed output rather than relying on a version-specific sequence.

Choose the connection and check stream health
YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted connection. Copy the RTMPS server URL from Live Control Room and use it only if the selected XSplit output supports RTMPS; an encoder without RTMPS support can be the source of a connection problem. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance also covers H.264, frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular XSplit preset or computer will sustain them. Test the setup and monitor stream health before relying on it.

Troubleshooting
- YouTube is missing from Broadcast: Open Broadcast > Set up a new output and look for YouTube in the setup wizard. If it is unavailable, check XSplit’s current support index for its Custom RTMP and YouTube credentials guidance: XSplit Support.
- The key is rejected or the stream does not connect: Confirm that you copied the key for the intended event and put it in the Stream Key field, not the server field. If you reset the key after exposure, update XSplit with the new one.
- Connection trouble with RTMPS: Make sure the selected XSplit output accepts RTMPS and that you copied the matching RTMPS URL. If it does not support RTMPS, use a supported connection option or another output method.
- XSplit is sending, but the event is not live: Check the Live Control Room preview and event status. A scheduled stream may need you to click Go live there after the encoder connects.
- Unexpected visibility or stream details: Before starting, review the output’s title, description, tags, category, privacy, latency and DVR settings, along with the event settings in YouTube Studio.
- Live streaming is unavailable: Verify channel eligibility and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. Recent live-stream restrictions can affect access.
