Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Upload settings control how large each stored file is; live settings control the bitrate sent continuously to YouTube. For limited upload bandwidth, test a 480p30 or 720p30 H.264 live stream against YouTube’s recommended bitrate ranges and your actual footage. Hindi does not require a special bitrate, but speech, music and Devanagari text should all remain clear in your test.
First decide what you need to make smaller
A smaller prerecorded file and a lower-bandwidth live stream are related, but they are not the same thing. Re-encoding a file at a lower bitrate can reduce its storage size, with some loss of image detail. When that file is sent as a live stream, your encoder separately produces a continuous feed at a chosen resolution, frame rate and bitrate.

- To upload fewer gigabytes: encode the source file using upload-oriented settings before sending it to YouTube.
- To use less internet while live: set the live encoder’s bitrate and resolution to values your sustained connection can handle.
- To avoid repeatedly uploading the same video: upload prerecorded content once, then use a continuous-stream workflow that plays the uploaded material. That still requires a way to keep the YouTube stream running.
Do not copy YouTube’s upload bitrate recommendations into a live encoder: the two workflows have separate guidance.
Choose live settings for a bandwidth-limited 24/7 stream
YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists 480p30 H.264 at a 0.4 Mbps minimum and 4 Mbps recommended, and 720p30 H.264 at a 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended. A minimum is not a promise of good-looking video; it is a lower bound in YouTube’s guidance. Test the recommended range where your connection allows, and judge the result using your own footage.

| Live format | YouTube H.264 bitrate guidance | When to test it |
|---|---|---|
| 480p30 | 0.4 Mbps minimum; 4 Mbps recommended | Start here if bandwidth is constrained or the source has modest detail and motion. |
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended | Compare it with 480p30 if finer detail or on-screen text needs to be more legible and the connection can sustain it. |
These are YouTube live-ingest recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular Hindi video will look good at those settings. A devotional song with a mostly still image, a video with moving performers, and a scrolling text overlay stress the picture differently.
Set the encoder basics
- Codec and transport: YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 for live ingest over RTMP/RTMPS. Its guidance recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. The bitrate examples above are specifically for H.264.
- Rate control: use constant bitrate (CBR), as YouTube recommends.
- Keyframes: set a two-second interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- Frame rate: use the source’s native frame rate where practical, and do not raise resolution or frame rate without a reason. YouTube’s settings vary with resolution, frame rate and codec.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS. Check that spoken Hindi is intelligible and music is not distorted in the test.
Use YouTube’s current live stream settings when configuring the stream itself. Keep the stream key private: it lets an encoder send video to your channel. Select or create the intended stream in YouTube Studio, copy its stream key into the encoder’s stream destination settings, and do not publish the key or show it in a recording.

Test the content, not just the numbers
- Choose a short sample that represents the actual playlist: include the fastest motion, the most detailed background, any Devanagari captions or graphics, and typical speech or music.
- Run the encoder at 480p30 and 720p30 in separate tests if both fit your connection. Keep the same source segment so the visual comparison is fair.
- Watch the stream in YouTube’s Live Control Room. Check for health messages as well as blockiness, smeared text, dropped frames, clipped audio and lip-sync problems.
- Choose the lowest setting that remains acceptable for the content and connection. If text becomes hard to read, a lower-resolution stream may not suit that material even when it remains connected.
YouTube’s live streaming error guidance is the place to start when the Live Control Room flags inadequate bandwidth or an incorrect bitrate. Lower the resolution or correct the encoder’s bitrate and ingest settings rather than assuming YouTube will repair the outgoing feed.

Encode prerecorded files without needlessly large uploads
For uploaded video, YouTube recommends MP4, H.264 video, progressive scan, a frame rate matching the source, and BT.709 for SDR. Its upload encoding recommendations give these SDR bitrate figures:

| Uploaded SDR resolution | Standard frame rates | High frame rates |
|---|---|---|
| 720p | 5 Mbps | 7.5 Mbps |
| 1080p | 8 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
Those values apply to uploaded files, not the live feed. The cited YouTube guidance does not specify a Hindi-only preset, a particular encoder quality-slider value, a target file size or a guaranteed compression ratio.
Make a small test encode before converting a whole library
- Keep an untouched copy of the original recording.
- Choose an ordinary segment and a demanding one with motion, fine detail or on-screen Hindi text. Encode both with the intended upload format and settings.
- Compare the new files with the originals at normal viewing size. Look closely at text edges, faces, moving detail and audio clarity.
- If quality is not acceptable, adjust the encoding choices and test again before processing the full collection. Lowering bitrate usually reduces file size but can remove image detail; no one setting will shrink every source by the same amount.
Plan continuity for a 24/7 schedule
Encoding settings do not by themselves keep a channel live around the clock. A local encoder needs its source files available, a playlist that repeats, a computer and network connection that stay available, and a recovery plan for interruptions. YouTube’s encoder setup help also identifies Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos; that mention is not an endorsement or a comparison of services.
