To enable YouTube live streaming, verify your channel in YouTube Studio and make sure it has no live-streaming restrictions from the past 90 days. You must be at least 16 to start a live stream. The 50-subscriber minimum and possible wait of up to 24 hours apply to streaming from the YouTube mobile app—not to every streaming method YouTube lists.
Enable live streaming on your channel
- Open YouTube Studio on a computer. Sign in to the account that manages the channel.
- Go to Settings → Channel → Features. Under Features that require phone verification, select Verify phone number and follow the prompts. YouTube says phone verification unlocks live streaming. For a Brand Account, an owner or manager can verify a phone number; for a channel without a Brand Account, only the owner can do so. YouTube’s phone-verification instructions explain the process.
- Check live-stream eligibility. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. The person starting the stream must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Choose how to stream. YouTube lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console as streaming methods. The general eligibility guidance does not establish a universal 24-hour activation wait for all methods.
Choose a streaming method

For method details, start from YouTube’s “Get started with live streaming” page and choose the workflow you intend to use. The 50-subscriber condition is specific to mobile streaming in YouTube’s guidance; do not treat it as a universal threshold for webcam, encoder, or console streaming.

Mobile streaming below 1,000 subscribers
YouTube may limit the number of viewers on mobile live streams from channels with fewer than 1,000 subscribers, and mobile-stream archives may be set to private by default. YouTube notes that reaching 1,000 subscribers does not necessarily remove the limitation immediately; removal may take several weeks. These conditions concern mobile streaming and should not be assumed to describe every streaming method. Check YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements for current details.

If live streaming is still unavailable
- Phone verification is incomplete: Return to YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Features and check Features that require phone verification. Complete the verification flow if prompted.
- You are trying to stream from the mobile app with fewer than 50 subscribers: The mobile method has that additional threshold. YouTube lists webcam, encoder, and console as other methods; choose one that fits your setup.
- You enabled mobile streaming recently: YouTube says the first mobile live stream may take up to 24 hours to start after enabling. That wait is stated for mobile and is not a confirmed universal delay.
- The channel has a recent live-streaming restriction: YouTube’s general eligibility guidance requires no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. Check the channel’s status in Studio and follow any restriction notice or appeal instructions shown there.
- You cannot verify the channel: Confirm you are using an account with the right permissions. A Brand Account owner or manager can verify its phone number; for a channel without a Brand Account, only the owner can do so.
