Randomize each channel’s media at the playback layer that feeds its live stream. With OBS, add a separate VLC Video Source playlist for each channel and enable Shuffle Playlist on each source; enable Loop Playlist if it should repeat. YouTube Studio playlist ordering organizes videos on YouTube, but the documented controls do not set a random sequence for separate encoder-fed live broadcasts.
How to shuffle separate channel playlists in OBS
OBS’s VLC Video Source supports a media playlist with independent shuffle and loop controls. VLC must be installed for OBS to offer this source. The steps below configure each channel’s media separately; they do not establish how many simultaneous outputs a particular computer can handle.

- Install VLC. OBS uses VLC libraries for its VLC Video Source. Install VLC before configuring the source.
- Make a scene for the first channel. In OBS, select the scene intended for that channel, add a VLC Video Source, and add that channel’s media files to its playlist.
- Enable the source controls. Turn on Shuffle Playlist to randomize the media-file order. Turn on Loop Playlist if playback should restart after the final file.
- Repeat for every channel. Give each channel its own source or otherwise keep its media playlist and output configuration distinct. Set shuffle and loop for each source as needed; do not rely on one channel’s playlist configuration to control another’s.
- Configure a distinct YouTube stream for each channel. YouTube’s Live Streaming API guide says that multiple channels require a different stream for each channel. Associate each OBS output with the intended channel and stream.
- Check before leaving the streams unattended. Confirm that each source plays the intended files, audio is present, the output is assigned to the correct channel, and YouTube reports the expected live status.
OBS describes Shuffle Playlist as specifying whether the source should randomize the media files or keep the file-list order. Its documentation does not describe the shuffle algorithm or guarantee a different sequence on every pass.

What YouTube playlist settings control
YouTube Studio lets channel owners create playlists, select how videos are arranged, and drag entries to reorder them. Those controls are useful for organizing videos on YouTube. The cited help documentation does not describe a persistent random-order setting for separate live outputs fed by an encoder, so Studio playlist ordering should not be treated as the shuffle control for an OBS broadcast.

The YouTube Live Streaming API guide covers broadcast and stream resources, including the need for a different stream for each channel. It does not document a playlist-shuffle parameter.
Choose a setup for each channel

For cloud playout specifically advertised with continuous playlist shuffle, playout.video is the closest documented match among these alternatives. Restream is a documented scheduled-playlist option, but do not assume it shuffles. In either case, verify current features and plan constraints directly with the provider.

YouTube eligibility and content checks
- YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions during the prior 90 days. First-time activation can take at least 24 hours.
- Use media you have the rights to stream. A playlist’s order does not change copyright obligations or make reused material eligible for monetization.
- Keep channel-specific media libraries and stream configurations clearly separated to reduce the risk of sending the wrong content to the wrong channel.
Troubleshooting separate shuffled streams
- VLC Video Source is unavailable: Install VLC, then reopen or refresh OBS so it can access VLC libraries.
- Files play in list order: Open the relevant VLC Video Source properties and enable Shuffle Playlist. Check this on each channel’s source, not only one.
- Playback stops after the last file: Enable Loop Playlist for that source if continuous repetition is intended.
- A channel shows the wrong media: Check that its scene/source uses the intended channel playlist and that its output is paired with the correct YouTube channel and distinct stream.
- A stream will not start on YouTube: Check channel verification, prior-90-day live-stream restrictions, and whether first-time activation has completed; YouTube says activation may take at least 24 hours.
- The sequence repeats or looks similar: OBS documents randomization but does not guarantee that every pass will have a different order. Do not interpret a repeated-looking sequence as proof that YouTube Studio has overridden source shuffle.
